Antes que nada existiera, ya existía la Palabra, y la Palabra estaba con Dios porque aquel que es la Palabra era Dios.

EN el principio era el Verbo, y el Verbo era con Dios, y el Verbo era Dios.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Él estaba con Dios en el principio.

Por medio de él todas las cosas fueron creadas, y no existe nada que él no haya creado.

All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

En él estaba la vida, y la vida era también la luz de la humanidad.

In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

Esta luz brilla en la oscuridad, y la oscuridad no puede apagarla.

Y la luz en las tinieblas resplandece; mas las tinieblas no la comprendieron.

And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness hasn’t overcome it.

Dios envió como testigo a un hombre llamado Juan, para que les hablara a todos de la luz, y por medio de él todos creyeran.

Fué un hombre enviado de Dios, el cual se llamaba Juan.

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.

Este vino por testimonio, para que diese testimonio de la luz, para que todos creyesen por él.

The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.

The same came as a witness, that he might testify about the light, that all might believe through him.

Juan no era la luz; él sólo vino a guiar a todos hacia la luz.

No era él la luz, sino para que diese testimonio de la luz.

He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.

He was not the light, but was sent that he might testify about the light.

La luz verdadera, la que alumbra a todo ser humano, ya estaba por llegar a este mundo.

Aquél era la luz verdadera, que alumbra á todo hombre que viene á este mundo.

That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

The true light that enlightens everyone was coming into the world.

El que es la luz estaba en el mundo, y Dios creó el mundo por medio de él, pero el mundo no lo reconoció.

En el mundo estaba, y el mundo fué hecho por él; y el mundo no le conoció.

He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

He was in the world, and the world was made through him, and the world didn’t recognize him.

Vino a este mundo, que es suyo, y los suyos no lo recibieron.

A lo suyo vino, y los suyos no le recibieron.

He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

He came to his own, and those who were his own didn’t receive him.

Pero a todos los que lo recibieron, a los que creen en él, les dio el derecho de ser hijos de Dios.

Mas á todos los que le recibieron, dióles potestad de ser hechos hijos de Dios, á los que creen en su nombre:

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

But as many as received him, to them he gave the right to become God’s children, to those who believe in his name:

Los hijos de Dios no nacen de la sangre, ni por deseos naturales o por voluntad humana, sino que nacen de Dios.

Los cuales no son engendrados de sangre, ni de voluntad de carne, ni de voluntad de varón, mas de Dios.

Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

Y la Palabra se hizo hombre y habitó entre nosotros. Y hemos visto su gloria, la gloria que le pertenece al Hijo único del Padre, en el que abundan el amor y la verdad.

Y aquel Verbo fué hecho carne, y habitó entre nosotros (y vimos su gloria, gloria como del unigénito del Padre), lleno de gracia y de verdad.

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

The Word became flesh and lived among us. We saw his glory, such glory as of the only born Son of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Juan habló de él y, a voz en cuello, gritó: «Este es del que yo les había dicho que venía después de mí. Pero él es más importante que yo, porque existía antes que yo».

Juan dió testimonio de él, y clamó diciendo: Este es del que yo decía: El que viene tras mí, es antes de mí: porque es primero que yo.

John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.

John testified about him. He cried out, saying, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me, for he was before me.’”

De la abundancia que hay en él, todos hemos recibido bendición sobre bendición.

Porque de su plenitud tomamos todos, y gracia por gracia.

And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.

From his fullness we all received grace upon grace.

Por medio de Moisés recibimos la ley mientras que por medio de Jesucristo recibimos el amor y la verdad.

Porque la ley por Moisés fué dada: mas la gracia y la verdad por Jesucristo fué hecha.

For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

For the law was given through Moses. Grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.

A Dios nadie lo ha visto nunca; pero el Hijo único, que es Dios mismo y siempre está en unión con el Padre, nos ha enseñado cómo es, para que así lo podamos conocer.

A Dios nadie le vió jamás: el unigénito Hijo, que está en el seno del Padre, él le declaró.

No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

No one has seen God at any time. The only born Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, has declared him.

Los judíos de Jerusalén enviaron sacerdotes y ayudantes del templo para que le preguntaran a Juan quién era él. Esto es lo que Juan les respondió:

Y éste es el testimonio de Juan, cuando los Judíos enviaron de Jerusalem sacerdotes y Levitas, que le preguntasen: ¿Tú, quién eres?

And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou?

This is John’s testimony, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?”

―Yo no soy el Cristo. Así dijo sin negarse a confesarlo claramente.

Y confesó, y no negó; mas declaró: No soy yo el Cristo.

And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ.

He declared, and didn’t deny, but he declared, “I am not the Christ.”

Le preguntaron: ―¿Y quién eres entonces? ¿Eres acaso Elías? Él respondió: ―No lo soy. ―¿Eres el Profeta? ―No.

Y le preguntaron: ¿Qué pues? ¿Eres tú Elías? Dijo: No soy. ¿Eres tú el profeta? Y respondió: No.

And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No.

They asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the prophet?” He answered, “No.”

Le dijeron: ―¿Quién eres entonces? Tenemos que llevar una respuesta a los que nos enviaron. ¿Qué puedes decir de ti mismo?

Dijéronle: ¿Pues quién eres? para que demos respuesta á los que nos enviaron. ¿Qué dices de ti mismo?

Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?

They said therefore to him, “Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?”

Juan respondió con las palabras del profeta Isaías: ―Yo soy la voz del que grita en el desierto: “Preparen un camino recto para el Señor”.

Dijo: Yo soy la voz del que clama en el desierto: Enderezad el camino del Señor, como dijo Isaías profeta.

He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.

He said, “I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ as Isaiah the prophet said.”

Los enviados de los fariseos

Y los que habían sido enviados eran de los Fariseos.

And they which were sent were of the Pharisees.

The ones who had been sent were from the Pharisees.

le preguntaron: ―Si no eres el Cristo, ni Elías ni el Profeta, ¿por qué bautizas?

Y preguntáronle, y dijéronle: ¿Por qué pues bautizas, si tú no eres el Cristo, ni Elías, ni el profeta?

And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet?

They asked him, “Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?”

Juan respondió: ―Yo bautizo con agua, pero entre ustedes hay alguien a quien ustedes no conocen,

Y Juan les respondió, diciendo: Yo bautizo con agua; mas en medio de vosotros ha estado á quien vosotros no conocéis.

John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;

John answered them, “I baptize in water, but among you stands one whom you don’t know.

que viene después de mí. A él, yo ni siquiera merezco desatarle la correa de las sandalias.

Este es el que ha de venir tras mí, el cual es antes de mí: del cual yo no soy digno de desatar la correa del zapato.

He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe’s latchet I am not worthy to unloose.

He is the one who comes after me, who is preferred before me, whose sandal strap I’m not worthy to loosen.”

Todo esto ocurrió en Betania, el pueblo que está en el lado este del río Jordán, donde Juan estaba bautizando.

Estas cosas acontecieron en Betábara, de la otra parte del Jordán, donde Juan bautizaba.

These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.

Al día siguiente Juan vio que Jesús se acercaba a él, y exclamó: «¡Aquí viene el Cordero de Dios, que quita el pecado del mundo!

El siguiente día ve Juan á Jesús que venía á él, y dice: He aquí el Cordero de Dios, que quita el pecado del mundo.

The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

The next day, he saw Jesus coming to him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

Él es aquel de quien dije: “Después de mí viene un hombre que es más importante que yo, porque existía antes que yo”.

Este es del que dije: Tras mí viene un varón, el cual es antes de mí: porque era primero que yo.

This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.

This is he of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who is preferred before me, for he was before me.’

Yo no lo conocía, pero vine bautizando con agua para que él se diera a conocer al pueblo de Israel».

Y yo no le conocía; más para que fuese manifestado á Israel, por eso vine yo bautizando con agua.

And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.

I didn’t know him, but for this reason I came baptizing in water, that he would be revealed to Israel.”

Juan añadió: «Yo vi al Espíritu descender del cielo en forma de paloma y posarse sobre él.

Y Juan dió testimonio, diciendo: Vi al Espíritu que descendía del cielo como paloma, y reposó sobre él.

And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.

John testified, saying, “I have seen the Spirit descending like a dove out of heaven, and it remained on him.

Yo mismo no lo conocía, pero el que me mandó a bautizar con agua me dijo: “Cuando veas al Espíritu descender y posarse sobre alguien, ese es el que bautiza con el Espíritu Santo”.

Y yo no le conocía; mas el que me envió á bautizar con agua, aquél me dijo: Sobre quien vieres descender el Espíritu, y que reposa sobre él, éste es el que bautiza con Espíritu Santo.

And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.

I didn’t recognize him, but he who sent me to baptize in water said to me, ‘On whomever you will see the Spirit descending and remaining on him is he who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.’

Yo lo he visto y por eso les aseguro que este es el Hijo de Dios».

Y yo le vi, y he dado testimonio que éste es el Hijo de Dios.

And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.

I have seen and have testified that this is the Son of God.”

Al día siguiente, Juan estaba con dos de sus discípulos en el mismo lugar.

El siguiente día otra vez estaba Juan, y dos de sus discípulos.

Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples;

Again, the next day, John was standing with two of his disciples,

Cuando vio que Jesús pasaba por allí, dijo: ―¡Aquí viene el Cordero de Dios!

Y mirando á Jesús que andaba por allí, dijo: He aquí el Cordero de Dios.

And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!

and he looked at Jesus as he walked, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!”

Al oír esto, los dos discípulos siguieron a Jesús.

Y oyéronle los dos discípulos hablar, y siguieron á Jesús.

And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.

Jesús volvió la cabeza, y viendo que lo seguían, les preguntó: ―¿Qué buscan? Ellos contestaron: ―Rabí, (Rabí significa: Maestro) ¿dónde vives?

Y volviéndose Jesús, y viéndolos seguirle, díceles: ¿Qué buscáis? Y ellos le dijeron: Rabbí (que declarado quiere decir Maestro) ¿dónde moras?

Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou?

Jesus turned and saw them following, and said to them, “What are you looking for?” They said to him, “Rabbi” (which is to say, being interpreted, Teacher), “where are you staying?”

Jesús les respondió: ―Vengan y vean. Ellos fueron con él, vieron dónde vivía, y puesto que eran como las cuatro de la tarde, se quedaron con él ese día.

Díceles: Venid y ved. Vinieron, y vieron donde moraba, y quedáronse con él aquel día: porque era como la hora de las diez.

He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.

He said to them, “Come and see.” They came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day. It was about the tenth hour.

Andrés, hermano de Simón Pedro, era uno de los dos que habían seguido a Jesús después de oír a Juan.

One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.

One of the two who heard John and followed him was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.

Andrés, al primero que encontró fue a su hermano Simón y le dijo: ―Hemos encontrado al Mesías (es decir, al Cristo).

Este halló primero á su hermano Simón, y díjole: Hemos hallado al Mesías (que declarado es, el Cristo).

He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.

He first found his own brother, Simon, and said to him, “We have found the Messiah!” (which is, being interpreted, Christ).

Entonces Andrés llevó a Simón a donde estaba Jesús. Jesús lo miró fijamente y le dijo: ―Tú eres Simón, el hijo de Juan. De ahora en adelante te llamarás Cefas (o sea, Pedro).

Y le trajo á Jesús. Y mirándole Jesús, dijo: Tú eres Simón, hijo de Jonás: tú serás llamado Cephas (que quiere decir, Piedra).

And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.

He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon the son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas” (which is by interpretation, Peter).

Al día siguiente, Jesús decidió ir a Galilea. Allí se encontró con Felipe y le dijo: ―Sígueme.

El siguiente día quiso Jesús ir á Galilea, y halla á Felipe, al cual dijo: Sígueme.

The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me.

On the next day, he was determined to go out into Galilee, and he found Philip. Jesus said to him, “Follow me.”

Felipe era de Betsaida, el mismo pueblo de donde eran Pedro y Andrés.

Y era Felipe de Bethsaida, la ciudad de Andrés y de Pedro.

Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.

Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.

Felipe fue a buscar a Natanael y le dijo: ―Hemos encontrado a aquel de quien escribió Moisés en la ley y del que también escribieron los profetas. Es Jesús de Nazaret, el hijo de José.

Felipe halló á Natanael, y dícele: Hemos hallado á aquel de quien escribió Moisés en la ley, y los profetas: á Jesús, el hijo de José, de Nazaret.

Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.

Philip found Nathanael, and said to him, “We have found him of whom Moses in the law and also the prophets, wrote: Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”

Natanael replicó: ―¿Acaso puede salir algo bueno de Nazaret? Felipe le contestó: ―Ven y te convencerás.

Y díjole Natanael: ¿De Nazaret puede haber algo de bueno? Dícele Felipe: Ven y ve.

And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see.

Nathanael said to him, “Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.”

Cuando Jesús vio que Natanael se le acercaba, dijo: ―Aquí viene un verdadero israelita, en el que no hay engaño.

Jesús vió venir á sí á Natanael, y dijo de él: He aquí un verdadero Israelita, en el cual no hay engaño.

Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!

Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and said about him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!”

Natanael le preguntó: ―¿De dónde me conoces? ―Te vi cuando aún estabas debajo de la higuera, antes que Felipe te llamara.

Dícele Natanael: ¿De dónde me conoces? Respondió Jesús, y díjole: Antes que Felipe te llamara, cuando estabas debajo de la higuera te vi.

Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.

Nathanael said to him, “How do you know me?” Jesus answered him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”

Natanael exclamó: ―Maestro, ¡tú eres el Hijo de Dios! ¡Tú eres el Rey de Israel!

Respondió Natanael, y díjole: Rabbí, tú eres el Hijo de Dios; tú eres el Rey de Israel.

Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.

Nathanael answered him, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are King of Israel!”

―¿Lo crees sólo porque te dije que te vi cuando estabas debajo de la higuera? Pues vas a ver cosas más grandes que estas. Y siguió diciendo:

Respondió Jesús y díjole: ¿Porque te dije, te vi debajo de la higuera, crees? cosas mayores que éstas verás.

Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these.

Jesus answered him, “Because I told you, ‘I saw you underneath the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these!”

―Les aseguro que ustedes verán abrirse el cielo, y a los ángeles de Dios subir y bajar sobre el Hijo del hombre.

Y dícele: De cierto, de cierto os digo: De aquí adelante veréis el cielo abierto, y los ángeles de Dios que suben y descienden sobre el Hijo del hombre.

And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.

He said to him, “Most certainly, I tell you all, hereafter you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”
