Esta es la razón por la que se difundió el rumor entre los creyentes de que este discípulo no moriría. Pero Jesús no dijo que él no moriría, solo dijo “si yo quiero que él siga vivo hasta que yo regrese, ¿por qué te preocupa a ti?”
Salió entonces este dicho entre los hermanos, que aquel discípulo no había de morir. Mas Jesús no le dijo, No morirá; sino: Si quiero que él quede hasta que yo venga ¿qué á ti?
Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?
This saying therefore went out among the brothers that this disciple wouldn’t die. Yet Jesus didn’t say to him that he wouldn’t die, but, “If I desire that he stay until I come, what is that to you?”
