1Había un fariseo llamado Nicodemo; era un jefe importante entre los judíos.
2Este fue una noche a visitar a Jesús y le dijo: ―Maestro, sabemos que Dios te ha enviado a enseñarnos, porque nadie puede hacer las señales milagrosas que tú haces si Dios no está con él.
3Jesús le dijo: ―Te aseguro que si una persona no nace de nuevo no podrá ver el reino de Dios.
4Nicodemo preguntó: ―¿Cómo puede uno nacer de nuevo cuando ya es viejo? ¿Acaso puede entrar otra vez en el vientre de su madre y nacer de nuevo?
5Jesús respondió: ―Te aseguro que el que no nace de agua y del Espíritu, no puede entrar en el reino de Dios.
6Los que nacen de padres humanos, son humanos; los que nacen del Espíritu, son espíritu.
7No te sorprendas de que te dije que tienes que nacer de nuevo.
8El viento sopla por donde quiere y oyes el ruido que produce, pero no sabes de dónde viene ni a dónde va. Eso mismo pasa con todos los que nacen del Espíritu.
9Nicodemo preguntó: ―¿Cómo es posible que esto suceda?
10Jesús le respondió una vez más: ―Tú eres maestro de Israel, ¿y no sabes estas cosas?
11Te aseguro que hablamos de las cosas que sabemos y de las que nosotros mismos hemos sido testigos, pero ustedes no creen lo que les decimos.
12Si no me creen cuando les hablo de las cosas de este mundo, ¿cómo van a creerme si les hablo de las cosas del cielo?
13Nadie ha subido jamás al cielo excepto el que bajó del cielo, que es el Hijo del hombre.
14»Como Moisés levantó la serpiente en el desierto, así también tienen que levantar al Hijo del hombre,
15para que todo el que crea en él tenga vida eterna.
16»Dios amó tanto al mundo, que dio a su único Hijo, para que todo el que cree en él no se pierda, sino tenga vida eterna.
17Dios no envió a su Hijo para condenar al mundo, sino para salvarlo por medio de él.
18El que cree en el Hijo único de Dios no será condenado, pero quien no cree en él ya está condenado.
19En esto consiste la condenación: en que la luz vino al mundo y la gente prefirió las tinieblas a la luz, pues las cosas que hacía eran malas.
20Todo el que hace lo malo odia la luz, y no se acerca a ella por temor a que sus malas acciones se descubran.
21En cambio, el que practica la verdad se acerca a la luz, para que se vea que obedece a Dios en lo que hace».
22Después de esto, Jesús fue con sus discípulos a la región de Judea. Allí estuvo algún tiempo con ellos bautizando.
23Juan también bautizaba en Enón, cerca de Salín. Allí había mucha agua y la gente iba para que la bautizara.
24Esto sucedió antes que a Juan lo encarcelaran.
25Entonces empezaron a discutir los discípulos de Juan y un judío acerca de la ceremonia de purificación.
26Aquéllos fueron a ver a Juan y le dijeron: ―Maestro, el que estaba contigo al otro lado del río Jordán, aquel del que tú mismo hablaste, ahora está bautizando y todos lo siguen.
27Juan les respondió: ―Nadie puede recibir nada si Dios no se lo da.
28Ustedes saben muy bien que yo dije: “Yo no soy el Cristo, sino que fui enviado delante de él”.
29El que tiene a la novia es el novio. Pero el amigo del novio, que está a su lado y escucha la voz del novio, se llena de alegría al oír su voz. Así estoy yo, lleno de alegría.
30Ahora él debe tener más importancia y yo menos.
31El que viene de arriba está por encima de todos; el que es de la tierra es terrenal y habla de las cosas de la tierra. El que viene del cielo está por encima de todos
32y habla de las cosas que ha visto y oído. Sin embargo, nadie cree lo que él dice.
33El que cree confirma que Dios dice la verdad.
34Aquel a quien Dios ha enviado habla lo que Dios le dice, porque Dios mismo le da su Espíritu en abundancia.
35El Padre ama al Hijo y le ha dado poder sobre todo lo que existe.
36El que cree en el Hijo tiene vida eterna; pero el que no cree en el Hijo no sabrá lo que es esa vida, pues siempre estará bajo el castigo de Dios.

1Y HABÍA un hombre de los Fariseos que se llamaba Nicodemo, príncipe de los Judíos.
2Este vino á Jesús de noche, y díjole: Rabbí, sabemos que has venido de Dios por maestro; porque nadie puede hacer estas señales que tú haces, si no fuere Dios con él.
3Respondió Jesús, y díjole: De cierto, de cierto te digo, que el que no naciere otra vez, no puede ver el reino de Dios.
4Dícele Nicodemo: ¿Cómo puede el hombre nacer siendo viejo? ¿puede entrar otra vez en el vientre de su madre, y nacer?
5Respondió Jesús: De cierto, de cierto te digo, que el que no naciere de agua y del Espíritu, no puede entrar en el reino de Dios.
6Lo que es nacido de la carne, carne es; y lo que es nacido del Espíritu, espíritu es.
7No te maravilles de que te dije: Os es necesario nacer otra vez.
8El viento de donde quiere sopla, y oyes su sonido; mas ni sabes de dónde viene, ni á dónde vaya: así es todo aquel que es nacido del Espíritu.
9Respondió Nicodemo, y díjole: ¿Cómo puede esto hacerse?
10Respondió Jesús, y díjole: ¿Tú eres el maestro de Israel, y no sabes esto?
11De cierto, de cierto te digo, que lo que sabemos hablamos, y lo que hemos visto, testificamos; y no recibís nuestro testimonio.
12Si os he dicho cosas terrenas, y no creéis, ¿cómo creeréis si os dijere las celestiales?
13Y nadie subió al cielo, sino el que descendió del cielo, el Hijo del hombre, que está en el cielo.
14Y como Moisés levantó la serpiente en el desierto, así es necesario que el Hijo del hombre sea levantado;
15Para que todo aquel que en él creyere, no se pierda, sino que tenga vida eterna.
16Porque de tal manera amó Dios al mundo, que ha dado á su Hijo unigénito, para que todo aquel que en él cree, no se pierda, mas tenga vida eterna.
17Porque no envió Dios á su Hijo al mundo para que condene al mundo, mas para que el mundo sea salvo por él.
18El que en él cree, no es condenado; mas el que no cree, ya es condenado, porque no creyó en el nombre del unigénito Hijo de Dios.
19Y esta es la condenación: porque la luz vino al mundo, y los hombres amaron más las tinieblas que la luz; porque sus obras eran malas.
20Porque todo aquel que hace lo malo, aborrece la luz y no viene á la luz, porque sus obras no sean redargüidas.
21Mas el que obra verdad, viene á la luz, para que sus obras sean manifestadas que son hechas en Dios.
22Pasado esto, vino Jesús con sus discípulos á la tierra de Judea; y estaba allí con ellos, y bautizaba.
23Y bautizaba también Juan en Enón junto á Salim, porque había allí muchas aguas; y venían, y eran bautizados.
24Porque Juan no había sido aún puesto en la carcel.
25Y hubo cuestión entre los discípulos de Juan y los Judíos acerca de la purificación.
26Y vinieron á Juan, y dijéronle: Rabbí, el que estaba contigo de la otra parte del Jordán, del cual tú diste testimonio, he aquí bautiza, y todos vienen á él.
27Respondió Juan, y dijo: No puede el hombre recibir algo, si no le fuere dado del cielo.
28Vosotros mismos me sois testigos que dije: Yo no soy el Cristo, sino que soy enviado delante de él.
29El que tiene la esposa, es el esposo; mas el amigo del esposo, que está en pie y le oye, se goza grandemente de la voz del esposo; así pues, este mi gozo es cumplido.
30A él conviene crecer, mas á mí menguar.
31El que de arriba viene, sobre todos es: el que es de la tierra, terreno es, y cosas terrenas habla: el que viene del cielo, sobre todos es.
32Y lo que vió y oyó, esto testifica: y nadie recibe su testimonio.
33El que recibe su testimonio, éste signó que Dios es verdadero.
34Porque el que Dios envió, las palabras de Dios habla: porque no da Dios el Espíritu por medida.
35El Padre ama al Hijo, y todas las cosas dió en su mano.
36El que cree en el Hijo, tiene vida eterna; mas el que es incrédulo al Hijo, no verá la vida, sino que la ira de Dios está sobre él.

1There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:
2The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.
3Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
4Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?
5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
8The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
9Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?
10Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?
11Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.
12If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?
13And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.
14And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
15That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
21But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
22After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judæa; and there he tarried with them, and baptized.
23And John also was baptizing in Ænon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized.
24For John was not yet cast into prison.
25Then there arose a question between some of John’s disciples and the Jews about purifying.
26And they came unto John, and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou barest witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him.
27John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.
28Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him.
29He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.
30He must increase, but I must decrease.
31He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all.
32And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth; and no man receiveth his testimony.
33He that hath received his testimony hath set to his seal that God is true.
34For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.
35The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.
36He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
World English Bible
1Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.
2He came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do, unless God is with him.”
3Jesus answered him, “Most certainly I tell you, unless one is born anew, he can’t see God’s Kingdom.”
4Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”
5Jesus answered, “Most certainly I tell you, unless one is born of water and Spirit, he can’t enter into God’s Kingdom.
6That which is born of the flesh is flesh. That which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7Don’t marvel that I said to you, ‘You must all be born anew.’
8The wind blows where it wants to, and you hear its sound, but don’t know where it comes from and where it is going. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
9Nicodemus answered him, “How can these things be?”
10Jesus answered him, “Are you the teacher of Israel, and don’t understand these things?
11Most certainly I tell you, we speak that which we know and testify of that which we have seen, and you don’t receive our witness.
12If I told you earthly things and you don’t believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?
13No one has ascended into heaven but he who descended out of heaven, the Son of Man, who is in heaven.
14As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up,
15that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only born Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
17For God didn’t send his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through him.
18He who believes in him is not judged. He who doesn’t believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only born Son of God.
19This is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light, for their works were evil.
20For everyone who does evil hates the light and doesn’t come to the light, lest his works would be exposed.
21But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his works may be revealed, that they have been done in God.”
22After these things, Jesus came with his disciples into the land of Judea. He stayed there with them and baptized.
23John also was baptizing in Enon near Salim, because there was much water there. They came and were baptized;
24for John was not yet thrown into prison.
25Therefore a dispute arose on the part of John’s disciples with some Jews about purification.
26They came to John and said to him, “Rabbi, he who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you have testified, behold, he baptizes, and everyone is coming to him.”
27John answered, “A man can receive nothing unless it has been given him from heaven.
28You yourselves testify that I said, ‘I am not the Christ,’ but, ‘I have been sent before him.’
29He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore my joy is made full.
30He must increase, but I must decrease.
31“He who comes from above is above all. He who is from the earth belongs to the earth and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all.
32What he has seen and heard, of that he testifies; and no one receives his witness.
33He who has received his witness has set his seal to this, that God is true.
34For he whom God has sent speaks the words of God; for God gives the Spirit without measure.
35The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into his hand.
36One who believes in the Son has eternal life, but one who disobeys the Son won’t see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.”
