1Había allí un hombre llamado Nicodemo, quien era un Fariseo y miembro del Concilio Supremo.
2Él vino por la noche donde Jesús estaba y le dijo: “Rabí, sabemos que eres un maestro que ha venido de parte Dios, porque nadie podría hacer las señales milagrosas que tú estás haciendo a menos que Dios esté con él”.
3“Te digo la verdad” respondió Jesús, “A menos que vuelvas a nacer, no puedes experimentar el reino de Dios”.
4“¿Cómo puede alguien volver a nacer, cuando ya es viejo?” preguntó Nicodemo. “¡Nadie puede regresar al vientre de su madre y nacer por segunda vez!”
5“Te digo la verdad, no puedes entrar al reino de Dios a menos que hayas nacido de agua y del Espíritu”, le dijo Jesús.
6“Lo que nace de la carne, es carne, y lo que nace del Espíritu, es Espíritu.
7No te sorprendas de que te dije: ‘Debes volver a nacer’.
8El viento sopla hacia donde quiere y apenas se alcanza a escuchar el sonido que hace, pero no sabes de dónde viene ni hacia dónde va; así ocurre con todo aquél que nace del Espíritu”.
9“¿Cómo es esto posible?” preguntó Nicodemo.
10“Tu eres un maestro famoso en Israel, ¿y aún así no entiendes tales cosas?” respondió Jesús.
11“Te digo la verdad: nosotros hablamos de lo que sabemos y damos testimonio de lo que hemos visto, pero ustedes se niegan a aceptar nuestro testimonio.
12Si ustedes no creen lo que yo digo cuando les hablo de cosas terrenales, ¿cómo podrán creer si les hablara de cosas celestiales?
13Nadie ha subido al cielo, sino que el Hijo del hombre descendió del cielo.
14Del mismo modo que Moisés levantó la serpiente en el desierto, así debe ser levantado el Hijo del hombre,
15de modo que todos los que confíen en él, tendrán vida eterna.
16“Porque Dios amó al mundo, y lo hizo de esta manera: entregó a su único Hijo, a fin de que todos los que crean en él no mueran, sino que tengan vida eterna.
17Dios no envió al Hijo al mundo para condenarlo, sino para salvar al mundo por medio de él.
18Aquellos que creen en él no están condenados, mientras que aquellos que no creen en él ya están condenados porque no creyeron en el único Hijo de Dios.
19Así es como se decide esto: la luz vino al mundo, pero las personas amaban las tinieblas más que a la luz, porque sus acciones eran malvadas.
20Todos los que hacen el mal odian la luz y no vienen a la luz, porque no quieren que sus acciones sean expuestas.
21Pero aquellos que hacen el bien vienen a la luz, para que se dé a conocer lo que Dios ha hecho en ellos”.
22Después de esto, Jesús y sus discípulos fueron a Judea y pasaron allí un tiempo con la gente, bautizándoles.
23Juan también estaba bautizando en Enón, cerca de Salim, porque allí había mucha agua y las personas seguían viniendo para ser bautizadas.
24(Esto ocurrió antes de que metieran a Juan en la cárcel).
25Surgió un debate entre los discípulos de Juan y los judíos respecto a la purificación ceremonial.
26Ellos fueron donde Juan y le dijeron: “Rabí, el hombre con el que estabas al otro lado del Jordán, del cual diste un testimonio favorable, ¡mira, ahora está bautizando y todos están acudiendo a él!”
27“Nadie recibe nada a menos que le sea dado del cielo”, respondió Juan.
28“Ustedes mismos pueden testificar de que yo he declarado: ‘Yo no soy el Mesías. He sido enviado para preparar su camino’.
29¡El novio es quien se casa con la novia! El padrino espera y escucha al novio, y se alegra cuando escucha la voz de alegría del novio, así que ahora mi felicidad está completa.
30Él debe volverse más importante, y yo debo volverme menos importante”.
31El que viene de arriba es más grande que todos; el que viene de la tierra pertenece a la tierra y habla cosas terrenales. El que viene del cielo es más grande que todos.
32El da testimonio acerca de lo que ha visto y escuchado, pero nadie acepta lo que él viene a decir.
33Sin embargo, todo aquél que acepta lo que el dice, confirma que Dios habla la verdad.
34Porque el que Dios envió habla las palabras de Dios, porque Dios no limita al Espíritu.
35El Padre ama al Hijo y ha puesto todo en sus manos.
36Cualquiera que confía en el Hijo tiene vida eterna, pero cualquiera que se niega a creer en el Hijo, no experimentará vida eterna, sino que sigue bajo la condenación de Dios.

1Y HABÍA un hombre de los Fariseos que se llamaba Nicodemo, príncipe de los Judíos.
2Este vino á Jesús de noche, y díjole: Rabbí, sabemos que has venido de Dios por maestro; porque nadie puede hacer estas señales que tú haces, si no fuere Dios con él.
3Respondió Jesús, y díjole: De cierto, de cierto te digo, que el que no naciere otra vez, no puede ver el reino de Dios.
4Dícele Nicodemo: ¿Cómo puede el hombre nacer siendo viejo? ¿puede entrar otra vez en el vientre de su madre, y nacer?
5Respondió Jesús: De cierto, de cierto te digo, que el que no naciere de agua y del Espíritu, no puede entrar en el reino de Dios.
6Lo que es nacido de la carne, carne es; y lo que es nacido del Espíritu, espíritu es.
7No te maravilles de que te dije: Os es necesario nacer otra vez.
8El viento de donde quiere sopla, y oyes su sonido; mas ni sabes de dónde viene, ni á dónde vaya: así es todo aquel que es nacido del Espíritu.
9Respondió Nicodemo, y díjole: ¿Cómo puede esto hacerse?
10Respondió Jesús, y díjole: ¿Tú eres el maestro de Israel, y no sabes esto?
11De cierto, de cierto te digo, que lo que sabemos hablamos, y lo que hemos visto, testificamos; y no recibís nuestro testimonio.
12Si os he dicho cosas terrenas, y no creéis, ¿cómo creeréis si os dijere las celestiales?
13Y nadie subió al cielo, sino el que descendió del cielo, el Hijo del hombre, que está en el cielo.
14Y como Moisés levantó la serpiente en el desierto, así es necesario que el Hijo del hombre sea levantado;
15Para que todo aquel que en él creyere, no se pierda, sino que tenga vida eterna.
16Porque de tal manera amó Dios al mundo, que ha dado á su Hijo unigénito, para que todo aquel que en él cree, no se pierda, mas tenga vida eterna.
17Porque no envió Dios á su Hijo al mundo para que condene al mundo, mas para que el mundo sea salvo por él.
18El que en él cree, no es condenado; mas el que no cree, ya es condenado, porque no creyó en el nombre del unigénito Hijo de Dios.
19Y esta es la condenación: porque la luz vino al mundo, y los hombres amaron más las tinieblas que la luz; porque sus obras eran malas.
20Porque todo aquel que hace lo malo, aborrece la luz y no viene á la luz, porque sus obras no sean redargüidas.
21Mas el que obra verdad, viene á la luz, para que sus obras sean manifestadas que son hechas en Dios.
22Pasado esto, vino Jesús con sus discípulos á la tierra de Judea; y estaba allí con ellos, y bautizaba.
23Y bautizaba también Juan en Enón junto á Salim, porque había allí muchas aguas; y venían, y eran bautizados.
24Porque Juan no había sido aún puesto en la carcel.
25Y hubo cuestión entre los discípulos de Juan y los Judíos acerca de la purificación.
26Y vinieron á Juan, y dijéronle: Rabbí, el que estaba contigo de la otra parte del Jordán, del cual tú diste testimonio, he aquí bautiza, y todos vienen á él.
27Respondió Juan, y dijo: No puede el hombre recibir algo, si no le fuere dado del cielo.
28Vosotros mismos me sois testigos que dije: Yo no soy el Cristo, sino que soy enviado delante de él.
29El que tiene la esposa, es el esposo; mas el amigo del esposo, que está en pie y le oye, se goza grandemente de la voz del esposo; así pues, este mi gozo es cumplido.
30A él conviene crecer, mas á mí menguar.
31El que de arriba viene, sobre todos es: el que es de la tierra, terreno es, y cosas terrenas habla: el que viene del cielo, sobre todos es.
32Y lo que vió y oyó, esto testifica: y nadie recibe su testimonio.
33El que recibe su testimonio, éste signó que Dios es verdadero.
34Porque el que Dios envió, las palabras de Dios habla: porque no da Dios el Espíritu por medida.
35El Padre ama al Hijo, y todas las cosas dió en su mano.
36El que cree en el Hijo, tiene vida eterna; mas el que es incrédulo al Hijo, no verá la vida, sino que la ira de Dios está sobre él.

1There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:
2The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.
3Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
4Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?
5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
8The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
9Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?
10Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?
11Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.
12If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?
13And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.
14And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
15That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
21But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
22After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judæa; and there he tarried with them, and baptized.
23And John also was baptizing in Ænon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized.
24For John was not yet cast into prison.
25Then there arose a question between some of John’s disciples and the Jews about purifying.
26And they came unto John, and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou barest witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him.
27John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.
28Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him.
29He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.
30He must increase, but I must decrease.
31He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all.
32And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth; and no man receiveth his testimony.
33He that hath received his testimony hath set to his seal that God is true.
34For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.
35The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.
36He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
World English Bible
1Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.
2He came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do, unless God is with him.”
3Jesus answered him, “Most certainly I tell you, unless one is born anew, he can’t see God’s Kingdom.”
4Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”
5Jesus answered, “Most certainly I tell you, unless one is born of water and Spirit, he can’t enter into God’s Kingdom.
6That which is born of the flesh is flesh. That which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7Don’t marvel that I said to you, ‘You must all be born anew.’
8The wind blows where it wants to, and you hear its sound, but don’t know where it comes from and where it is going. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
9Nicodemus answered him, “How can these things be?”
10Jesus answered him, “Are you the teacher of Israel, and don’t understand these things?
11Most certainly I tell you, we speak that which we know and testify of that which we have seen, and you don’t receive our witness.
12If I told you earthly things and you don’t believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?
13No one has ascended into heaven but he who descended out of heaven, the Son of Man, who is in heaven.
14As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up,
15that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only born Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
17For God didn’t send his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through him.
18He who believes in him is not judged. He who doesn’t believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only born Son of God.
19This is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light, for their works were evil.
20For everyone who does evil hates the light and doesn’t come to the light, lest his works would be exposed.
21But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his works may be revealed, that they have been done in God.”
22After these things, Jesus came with his disciples into the land of Judea. He stayed there with them and baptized.

24for John was not yet thrown into prison.
25Therefore a dispute arose on the part of John’s disciples with some Jews about purification.
26They came to John and said to him, “Rabbi, he who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you have testified, behold, he baptizes, and everyone is coming to him.”
27John answered, “A man can receive nothing unless it has been given him from heaven.
28You yourselves testify that I said, ‘I am not the Christ,’ but, ‘I have been sent before him.’
29He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore my joy is made full.
30He must increase, but I must decrease.
31“He who comes from above is above all. He who is from the earth belongs to the earth and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all.
32What he has seen and heard, of that he testifies; and no one receives his witness.
33He who has received his witness has set his seal to this, that God is true.
34For he whom God has sent speaks the words of God; for God gives the Spirit without measure.
35The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into his hand.
36One who believes in the Son has eternal life, but one who disobeys the Son won’t see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.”
