1Después de estas cosas, Jesús se fue al otro lado del mar de Galilea, que también se llama mar de Tiberíades.
2Le seguía una gran multitud, porque veían las señales que hacía con los enfermos.
3Jesús subió al monte y se sentó allí con sus discípulos.
4Se acercaba la Pascua, la fiesta de los judíos.
5Entonces Jesús, alzando los ojos y viendo que se acercaba a él una gran multitud, dijo a Felipe: “¿Dónde vamos a comprar pan para que coman estos?”
6Decía esto para ponerle a prueba, pues él mismo sabía lo que iba a hacer.
7Felipe le respondió: “No les bastaría con doscientos denarios de pan, para que cada uno reciba un poco”.
8Uno de sus discípulos, Andrés, hermano de Simón Pedro, le dijo:
9“Hay aquí un muchacho que tiene cinco panes de cebada y dos peces, pero ¿qué son estos entre tantos?”
10Jesús dijo: “Hagan que la gente se siente”. Había mucha hierba en aquel lugar. Así que los hombres se sentaron, en número de unos cinco mil.
11Jesús tomó los panes, y habiendo dado gracias, los repartió a los discípulos, y los discípulos a los que estaban sentados, asimismo de los peces cuanto quisieron.
12Cuando se saciaron, dijo a sus discípulos: “Recojan los trozos que han sobrado, para que no se pierda nada”.
13Así que los recogieron y llenaron doce cestas con los trozos de los cinco panes de cebada que habían sobrado a los que habían comido.
14Al ver la gente la señal que Jesús había hecho, dijeron: “Este es verdaderamente el profeta que viene al mundo”.
15Jesús, pues, percibiendo que iban a venir a prenderle por la fuerza para hacerle rey, se retiró de nuevo al monte, a solas.
16Al atardecer, sus discípulos bajaron al mar.
17Entraron en la barca y atravesaron el mar hacia Capernaum. Ya había oscurecido, y Jesús no había venido a ellos.
18El mar estaba agitado por un gran viento que soplaba.
19Por lo tanto, cuando habían remado unos veinticinco o treinta estadios, vieron a Jesús que caminaba sobre el mar y se acercaba a la barca; y tuvieron miedo.
20Pero él les dijo: “Soy yo. No tengan miedo”.
21Por lo tanto, estaban dispuestos a recibirlo en la barca. En seguida la barca llegó a la tierra a la que se dirigían.
22Al día siguiente, la multitud que estaba al otro lado del mar vio que no había allí ninguna otra barca, sino aquella en la que se habían embarcado sus discípulos, y que Jesús no había entrado con sus discípulos en la barca, sino que sus discípulos se habían ido solos.
23Sin embargo, unas barcas procedentes de Tiberíades se acercaron al lugar donde comieron el pan después de que el Señor diera las gracias.
24Al ver, pues, la multitud que Jesús no estaba allí, ni sus discípulos, subieron ellos mismos a las barcas y vinieron a Capernaum, buscando a Jesús.
25Cuando lo encontraron al otro lado del mar, le preguntaron: “Rabí, ¿cuándo has venido aquí?”
26Jesús les respondió: “Les aseguro que me buscan, no porque hayan visto señales, sino porque comieron de los panes y se saciaron.
27No trabajen por el alimento que perece, sino por el que permanece para la vida eterna, que les dará el Hijo del Hombre. Porque Dios el Padre lo ha sellado”.
28Entonces le dijeron: “¿Qué debemos hacer, para que podamos obrar las obras de Dios?”
29Jesús les respondió: “Esta es la obra de Dios, que crean en el que él ha enviado”.
30Por eso le dijeron: “¿Qué señal haces, pues, para que te veamos y te creamos? ¿Qué obra haces?
31Nuestros padres comieron el maná en el desierto. Como está escrito: ‘Les dio a comer pan del cielo’”.
32Entonces Jesús les dijo: “Les aseguro que no fue Moisés quien les dio el pan del cielo, sino que mi Padre les da el verdadero pan del cielo.
33Porque el pan de Dios es el que baja del cielo y da vida al mundo”.
34Por eso le dijeron: “Señor, danos siempre este pan”.
35Jesús les dijo: “Yo soy el pan de vida. El que viene a mí no tendrá hambre, y el que cree en mí nunca tendrá sed.
36Pero les he dicho que me han visto, y sin embargo no creen.
37Todos los que el Padre me dé vendrán a mí. Al que venga a mí no lo echaré de ninguna manera.
38Porque he bajado del cielo, no para hacer mi propia voluntad, sino la voluntad del que me ha enviado.
39Esta es la voluntad de mi Padre que me ha enviado: que de todo lo que me ha dado no pierda nada, sino que lo resucite en el último día.
40Esta es la voluntad del que me ha enviado: que todo el que vea al Hijo y crea en él tenga vida eterna; y yo lo resucitaré en el último día”.
41Los judíos, pues, murmuraban de él, porque decía: “Yo soy el pan bajado del cielo”.
42Dijeron: “¿No es este Jesús, el hijo de José, cuyo padre y madre conocemos? ¿Cómo, pues, dice: ‘He bajado del cielo’?”
43Por eso Jesús les respondió: “No murmuren entre ustedes.
44Nadie puede venir a mí si el Padre que me envió no lo atrae; y yo lo resucitaré en el último día.
45Está escrito en los profetas: ‘Todos serán enseñados por Dios’. Por eso, todo el que oye del Padre y ha aprendido, viene a mí.
46No es que alguien haya visto al Padre, sino el que viene de Dios. Él ha visto al Padre.
47De cierto les digo que el que cree en mí tiene vida eterna.
48Yo soy el pan de vida.
49Sus padres comieron el maná en el desierto y murieron.
50Este es el pan que baja del cielo, para que cualquiera coma de él y no muera.
51Yo soy el pan vivo que ha bajado del cielo. Si alguien come de este pan, vivirá para siempre. Sí, el pan que daré para la vida del mundo es mi carne”.
52Los judíos, pues, discutían entre sí, diciendo: “¿Cómo puede este darnos a comer su carne?”
53Por eso Jesús les dijo: “Les aseguro que si no comen la carne del Hijo del Hombre y no beben su sangre, no tienen vida en ustedes mismos.
54El que come mi carne y bebe mi sangre tiene vida eterna, y yo lo resucitaré en el último día.
55Porque mi carne es verdadera comida y mi sangre es verdadera bebida.
56El que come mi carne y bebe mi sangre vive en mí, y yo en él.
57Como el Padre viviente me envió, y yo vivo por el Padre, así el que se alimenta de mí también vivirá por mí.
58Este es el pan que bajó del cielo, no como sus padres que comieron el maná y murieron. El que come este pan vivirá para siempre”.
59Estas cosas las decía en la sinagoga, mientras enseñaba en Capernaum.
60Por eso, muchos de sus discípulos, al oír esto, dijeron: “¡Qué dura es esta palabra! ¿Quién puede escucharla?”
61Pero Jesús, sabiendo en sí mismo que sus discípulos murmuraban de esto, les dijo: “¿Esto los hace tropezar?
62¿Y si vieran al Hijo del Hombre subir adonde estaba antes?
63El espíritu es el que da la vida. La carne no aprovecha nada. Las palabras que yo les digo son espíritu y son vida.
64Pero hay algunos de ustedes que no creen”. Porque Jesús sabía desde el principio quiénes eran los que no creían, y quiénes eran los que lo iban a traicionar.
65Dijo: “Por eso les he dicho que nadie puede venir a mí, si no le es dado por mi Padre”.
66Al oír esto, muchos de sus discípulos volvieron atrás y ya no andaban con él.
67Entonces Jesús dijo a los doce: “¿Acaso quieren irse también ustedes?”
68Simón Pedro le respondió: “Señor, ¿a quién vamos a ir? Tú tienes palabras de vida eterna.
69Hemos creído y hemos conocido que tú eres el Cristo, el Hijo de Dios vivo”.
70Jesús les respondió: “¿No los he elegido a ustedes, los doce, y uno de ustedes es un demonio?”
71Ahora bien, hablaba de Judas, hijo de Simón Iscariote, porque era él quien lo iba a traicionar, siendo uno de los doce.

1PASADAS estas cosas, fuése Jesús de la otra parte de la mar de Galilea, que es de Tiberias.
2Y seguíale grande multitud, porque veían sus señales que hacía en los enfermos.
3Y subió Jesús á un monte, y se sentó allí con sus discípulos.
4Y estaba cerca la Pascua, la fiesta de los Judíos.
5Y como alzó Jesús los ojos, y vió que había venido á él grande multitud, dice á Felipe: ¿De dónde compraremos pan para que coman éstos?
6Mas esto decía para probarle; porque él sabía lo que había de hacer.
7Respondióle Felipe: Doscientos denarios de pan no les bastarán, para que cada uno de ellos tome un poco.
8Dícele uno de sus discípulos, Andrés, hermano de Simón Pedro:
9Un muchacho está aquí que tiene cinco panes de cebada y dos pececillos; ¿mas qué es esto entre tantos?
10Entonces Jesús dijo: Haced recostar la gente. Y había mucha hierba en aquel lugar: y recostáronse como número de cinco mil varones.
11Y tomó Jesús aquellos panes, y habiendo dado gracias, repartió á los discípulos, y los discípulos á los que estaban recostados: asimismo de los peces, cuanto querían.
12Y como fueron saciados, dijo á sus discípulos: Recoged los pedazos que han quedado, porque no se pierda nada.
13Cogieron pues, é hinchieron doce cestas de pedazos de los cinco panes de cebada, que sobraron á los que habían comido.
14Aquellos hombres entonces, como vieron la señal que Jesús había hecho, decían: Este verdaderamente es el profeta que había de venir al mundo.
15Y entendiendo Jesús que habían de venir para arrebatarle, y hacerle rey, volvió á retirarse al monte, él solo.
16Y como se hizo tarde, descendieron sus discípulos á la mar;
17Y entrando en un barco, venían de la otra parte de la mar hacia Capernaum. Y era ya oscuro, y Jesús no había venido á ellos.
18Y levantábase la mar con un gran viento que soplaba.
19Y como hubieron navegado como veinticinco ó treinta estadios, ven á Jesús que andaba sobre la mar, y se acercaba al barco: y tuvieron miedo.
20Mas él les dijo: Yo soy; no tengáis miedo.
21Ellos entonces gustaron recibirle en el barco: y luego el barco llegó á la tierra donde iban.
22El día siguiente, la gente que estaba de la otra parte de la mar, como vió que no había allí otra navecilla sino una, y que Jesús no había entrado con sus discípulos en ella, sino que sus discípulos se habían ido solos;
23Y que otras navecillas habían arribado de Tiberias junto al lugar donde habían comido el pan después de haber el Señor dado gracias;
24Como vió pues la gente que Jesús no estaba allí, ni sus discípulos, entraron ellos en las navecillas, y vinieron á Capernaum buscando á Jesús.
25Y hallándole de la otra parte de la mar, dijéronle: Rabbí, ¿cuándo llegaste acá?
26Respondióles Jesús, y dijo: De cierto, de cierto os digo, que me buscáis, no porque habéis visto las señales, sino porque comisteis el pan y os hartasteis.
27Trabajad no por la comida que perece, mas por la comida que á vida eterna permanece, la cual el Hijo del hombre os dará: porque á éste señaló el Padre, que es Dios.
28Y dijéronle: ¿Qué haremos para que obremos las obras de Dios?
29Respondió Jesús, y díjoles: Esta es la obra de Dios, que creáis en el que él ha enviado.
30Dijéronle entonces: ¿Qué señal pues haces tú, para que veamos, y te creamos? ¿Qué obras?
31Nuestros padres comieron el maná en el desierto, como está escrito: Pan del cielo les dió á comer.
32Y Jesús les dijo: De cierto, de cierto os digo: No os dió Moisés pan del cielo; mas mi Padre os da el verdadero pan del cielo.
33Porque el pan de Dios es aquel que descendió del cielo y da vida al mundo.
34Y dijéronle: Señor, danos siempre este pan.
35Y Jesús les dijo: Yo soy el pan de vida: el que á mí viene, nunca tendrá hambre; y el que en mí cree, no tendrá sed jamás.
36Mas os he dicho, que aunque me habéis visto, no creéis.
37Todo lo que el Padre me da, vendrá á mí; y al que á mí viene, no le hecho fuera.
38Porque he descendido del cielo, no para hacer mi voluntad, mas la voluntad del que me envió.
39Y esta es la voluntad del que me envió, del Padre: Que todo lo que me diere, no pierda de ello, sino que lo resucite en el día postrero.
40Y esta es la voluntad del que me ha enviado: Que todo aquel que ve al Hijo, y cree en él, tenga vida eterna: y yo le resucitaré en el día postrero.
41Murmuraban entonces de él los Judíos, porque había dicho: Yo soy el pan que descendí del cielo.
42Y decían: ¿No es éste Jesús, el hijo de José, cuyo padre y madre nosotros conocemos? ¿cómo, pues, dice éste: Del cielo he descendido?
43Y Jesús respondió, y díjoles: No murmuréis entre vosotros.
44Ninguno puede venir á mí, si el Padre que me envió no le trajere; y yo le resucitaré en el día postrero.
45Escrito está en los profetas: Y serán todos enseñados de Dios. Así que, todo aquel que oyó del Padre, y aprendió, viene á mí.
46No que alguno haya visto al Padre, sino aquel que vino de Dios, éste ha visto al Padre.
47De cierto, de cierto os digo: El que cree en mí, tiene vida eterna.
48Yo soy el pan de vida.
49Vuestros padres comieron el maná en el desierto, y son muertos.
50Este es el pan que desciende del cielo, para que el que de él comiere, no muera.
51Yo soy el pan vivo que he descendido del cielo: si alguno comiere de este pan, vivirá para siempre; y el pan que yo daré es mi carne, la cual yo daré por la vida del mundo.
52Entonces los Judíos contendían entre sí, diciendo: ¿Cómo puede éste darnos su carne á comer?
53Y Jesús les dijo: De cierto, de cierto os digo: Si no comiereis la carne del Hijo del hombre, y bebiereis su sangre, no tendréis vida en vosotros.
54El que come mi carne y bebe mi sangre, tiene vida eterna: y yo le resucitaré en el día postrero.
55Porque mi carne es verdadera comida, y mi sangre es verdadera bebida.
56El que come mi carne y bebe mi sangre, en mí permanece, y yo en él.
57Como me envió el Padre viviente, y yo vivo por el Padre, asimismo el que me come, él también vivirá por mí.
58Este es el pan que descendió del cielo: no como vuestros padres comieron el maná, y son muertos: el que come de este pan, vivirá eternamente.
59Estas cosas dijo en la sinagoga, enseñando en Capernaum.
60Y muchos de sus discípulos oyéndolo, dijeron: Dura es esta palabra: ¿quién la puede oir?
61Y sabiendo Jesús en sí mismo que sus discípulos murmuraban de esto, díjoles: ¿Esto os escandaliza?
62¿Pues qué, si viereis al Hijo del hombre que sube donde estaba primero?
63El espíritu es el que da vida; la carne nada aprovecha: las palabras que yo os he hablado, son espíritu, y son vida.
64Mas hay algunos de vosotros que no creen. Porque Jesús desde el principio sabía quiénes eran los que no creían, y quién le había de entregar.
65Y dijo: Por eso os he dicho que ninguno puede venir á mí, si no le fuere dado del Padre.
66Desde esto, muchos de sus discípulos volvieron atrás, y ya no andaban con él.
67Dijo entonces Jesús á los doce: ¿Queréis vosotros iros también?
68Y respondióle Simón Pedro: Señor, ¿á quién iremos? tú tienes palabras de vida eterna.
69Y nosotros creemos y conocemos que tú eres el Cristo, el Hijo de Dios viviente.
70Jesús le respondió: ¿No he escogido yo á vosotros doce, y uno de vosotros es diablo?
71Y hablaba de Judas Iscariote, hijo de Simón, porque éste era el que le había de entregar, el cual era uno de los doce.

1After these things Jesus went over the sea of Galilee, which is the sea of Tiberias.
2And a great multitude followed him, because they saw his miracles which he did on them that were diseased.
3And Jesus went up into a mountain, and there he sat with his disciples.
4And the passover, a feast of the Jews, was nigh.
5When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat?
6And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do.
7Philip answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little.
8One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, saith unto him,
9There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many?
10And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.
11And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would.
12When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost.
13Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten.
14Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world.
15When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone.
16And when even was now come, his disciples went down unto the sea,
17And entered into a ship, and went over the sea toward Capernaum. And it was now dark, and Jesus was not come to them.
18And the sea arose by reason of a great wind that blew.
19So when they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they see Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh unto the ship: and they were afraid.
20But he saith unto them, It is I; be not afraid.
21Then they willingly received him into the ship: and immediately the ship was at the land whither they went.
22The day following, when the people which stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was none other boat there, save that one whereinto his disciples were entered, and that Jesus went not with his disciples into the boat, but that his disciples were gone away alone;
23(Howbeit there came other boats from Tiberias nigh unto the place where they did eat bread, after that the Lord had given thanks:)
24When the people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, neither his disciples, they also took shipping, and came to Capernaum, seeking for Jesus.
25And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said unto him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither?
26Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.
27Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.
28Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?
29Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
30They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work?
31Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat.
32Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.
33For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.
34Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread.
35And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
36But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not.
37All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
38For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.
39And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.
40And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
41The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven.
42And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven?
43Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves.
44No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
45It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.
46Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father.
47Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
48I am that bread of life.
49Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead.
50This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.
51I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
52The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat?
53Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
54Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
55For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
56He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
57As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.
58This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.
59These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.
60Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it?
61When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?
62What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?
63It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
64But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him.
65And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.
66From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.
67Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?
68Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.
69And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.
70Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?
71He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve.

1After these things, Jesus went away to the other side of the sea of Galilee, which is also called the Sea of Tiberias.
2A great multitude followed him, because they saw his signs which he did on those who were sick.
3Jesus went up into the mountain, and he sat there with his disciples.
4Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was at hand.
5Jesus therefore, lifting up his eyes and seeing that a great multitude was coming to him, said to Philip, “Where are we to buy bread, that these may eat?”
6He said this to test him, for he himself knew what he would do.
7Philip answered him, “Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may receive a little.”
8One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to him,
9“There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are these among so many?”
10Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in that place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.
11Jesus took the loaves, and having given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to those who were sitting down, likewise also of the fish as much as they desired.
12When they were filled, he said to his disciples, “Gather up the broken pieces which are left over, that nothing be lost.”
13So they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with broken pieces from the five barley loaves, which were left over by those who had eaten.
14When therefore the people saw the sign which Jesus did, they said, “This is truly the prophet who comes into the world.”
15Jesus therefore, perceiving that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, withdrew again to the mountain by himself.
16When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea.
17They entered into the boat, and were going over the sea to Capernaum. It was now dark, and Jesus had not come to them.
18The sea was tossed by a great wind blowing.
19When therefore they had rowed about twenty-five or thirty stadia, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near to the boat; and they were afraid.
20But he said to them, “It is I. Don’t be afraid.”
21They were willing therefore to receive him into the boat. Immediately the boat was at the land where they were going.
22On the next day, the multitude that stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there, except the one in which his disciples had embarked, and that Jesus hadn’t entered with his disciples into the boat, but his disciples had gone away alone.
23However, boats from Tiberias came near to the place where they ate the bread after the Lord had given thanks.
24When the multitude therefore saw that Jesus wasn’t there, nor his disciples, they themselves got into the boats and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus.
25When they found him on the other side of the sea, they asked him, “Rabbi, when did you come here?”
26Jesus answered them, “Most certainly I tell you, you seek me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.
27Don’t work for the food which perishes, but for the food which remains to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For God the Father has sealed him.”
28They said therefore to him, “What must we do, that we may work the works of God?”
29Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.”
30They said therefore to him, “What then do you do for a sign, that we may see and believe you? What work do you do?
31Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness. As it is written, ‘He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.’”
32Jesus therefore said to them, “Most certainly, I tell you, it wasn’t Moses who gave you the bread out of heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread out of heaven.
33For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven and gives life to the world.”
34They said therefore to him, “Lord, always give us this bread.”
35Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will not be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.
36But I told you that you have seen me, and yet you don’t believe.
37All those whom the Father gives me will come to me. He who comes to me I will in no way throw out.
38For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me.
39This is the will of my Father who sent me, that of all he has given to me I should lose nothing, but should raise him up at the last day.
40This is the will of the one who sent me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him should have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”
41The Jews therefore murmured concerning him, because he said, “I am the bread which came down out of heaven.”
42They said, “Isn’t this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How then does he say, ‘I have come down out of heaven’?”
43Therefore Jesus answered them, “Don’t murmur among yourselves.
44No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him; and I will raise him up in the last day.
45It is written in the prophets, ‘They will all be taught by God.’ Therefore everyone who hears from the Father and has learned, comes to me.
46Not that anyone has seen the Father, except he who is from God. He has seen the Father.
47Most certainly, I tell you, he who believes in me has eternal life.
48I am the bread of life.
49Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness and they died.
50This is the bread which comes down out of heaven, that anyone may eat of it and not die.
51I am the living bread which came down out of heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. Yes, the bread which I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.”
52The Jews therefore contended with one another, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”
53Jesus therefore said to them, “Most certainly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you don’t have life in yourselves.
54He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.
55For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
56He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me, and I in him.
57As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on me will also live because of me.
58This is the bread which came down out of heaven—not as our fathers ate the manna and died. He who eats this bread will live forever.”
59He said these things in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.
60Therefore many of his disciples, when they heard this, said, “This is a hard saying! Who can listen to it?”
61But Jesus knowing in himself that his disciples murmured at this, said to them, “Does this cause you to stumble?
62Then what if you would see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before?
63It is the spirit who gives life. The flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and are life.
64But there are some of you who don’t believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who didn’t believe, and who it was who would betray him.
65He said, “For this cause I have said to you that no one can come to me, unless it is given to him by my Father.”
66At this, many of his disciples went back and walked no more with him.
67Jesus said therefore to the twelve, “You don’t also want to go away, do you?”
68Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words of eternal life.
69We have come to believe and know that you are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
70Jesus answered them, “Didn’t I choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?”
71Now he spoke of Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, for it was he who would betray him, being one of the twelve.
