1Jesus aber ging an den Ölberg.
2Und frühmorgens kam er wieder in den Tempel, und alles Volk kam zu ihm; und er setzte sich und lehrte sie.
3Aber die Schriftgelehrten und Pharisäer brachten ein Weib zu ihm, im Ehebruch ergriffen, und stellten sie in die Mitte dar
4und sprachen zu ihm: Meister, dies Weib ist ergriffen auf frischer Tat im Ehebruch.
5Mose aber hat uns im Gesetz geboten, solche zu steinigen; was sagst du?
6Das sprachen sie aber, ihn zu versuchen, auf daß sie eine Sache wider ihn hätten. Aber Jesus bückte sich nieder und schrieb mit dem Finger auf die Erde.
7Als sie nun anhielten, ihn zu fragen, richtete er sich auf und sprach zu ihnen: Wer unter euch ohne Sünde ist, der werfe den ersten Stein auf sie.
8Und bückte sich wieder nieder und schrieb auf die Erde.
9Da sie aber das hörten, gingen sie hinaus (von ihrem Gewissen überführt), einer nach dem andern, von den Ältesten bis zu den Geringsten; und Jesus ward gelassen allein und das Weib in der Mitte stehend.
10Jesus aber richtete sich auf; und da er niemand sah denn das Weib, sprach er zu ihr: Weib, wo sind sie, deine Verkläger? Hat dich niemand verdammt?
11Sie aber sprach: HERR, niemand. Jesus aber sprach: So verdamme ich dich auch nicht; gehe hin und sündige hinfort nicht mehr!
12Da redete Jesus abermals zu ihnen und sprach: Ich bin das Licht der Welt; wer mir nachfolgt, der wird nicht wandeln in der Finsternis, sondern wir das Licht des Lebens haben.
13Da sprachen die Pharisäer zu ihm: Du zeugst von dir selbst; dein Zeugnis ist nicht wahr.
14Jesus antwortete und sprach zu ihnen: So ich von mir selbst zeugen würde, so ist mein Zeugnis wahr; denn ich weiß, woher ich gekommen bin und wohin ich gehe; ihr aber wißt nicht, woher ich komme und wohin ich gehe.
15Ihr richtet nach dem Fleisch; ich richte niemand.
16So ich aber richte, so ist mein Gericht recht; denn ich bin nicht allein, sondern ich und der Vater, der mich gesandt hat.
17Auch steht in eurem Gesetz geschrieben, daß zweier Menschen Zeugnis wahr sei.
18Ich bin's, der ich von mir selbst zeuge; und der Vater, der mich gesandt hat, zeugt auch von mir.
19Da sprachen sie zu ihm: Wo ist dein Vater? Jesus antwortete: Ihr kennt weder mich noch meinen Vater; wenn ihr mich kenntet, so kenntet ihr auch meinen Vater.
20Diese Worte redete Jesus an dem Gotteskasten, da er lehrte im Tempel; und niemand griff ihn, denn seine Stunde war noch nicht gekommen.
21Da sprach Jesus abermals zu ihnen: Ich gehe hinweg, und ihr werdet mich suchen und in eurer Sünde sterben. Wo ich hin gehe, da könnet ihr nicht hin kommen.
22Da sprachen die Juden: Will er sich denn selbst töten, daß er spricht: “Wohin ich gehe, da könnet ihr nicht hin kommen”?
23Und er sprach zu ihnen: Ihr seid von untenher, ich bin von obenher; ihr seid von dieser Welt, ich bin nicht von dieser Welt.
24So habe ich euch gesagt, daß ihr sterben werdet in euren Sünden; denn so ihr nicht glaubt, daß ich es sei, so werdet ihr sterben in euren Sünden.
25Da sprachen sie zu ihm: Wer bist du denn? Und Jesus sprach zu ihnen: Erstlich der, der ich mit euch rede.
26Ich habe viel von euch zu reden und zu richten; aber der mich gesandt hat, ist wahrhaftig, und was ich von ihm gehört habe, das rede ich vor der Welt.
27Sie verstanden aber nicht, daß er ihnen von dem Vater sagte.
28Da sprach Jesus zu ihnen: Wenn ihr des Menschen Sohn erhöhen werdet, dann werdet ihr erkennen, daß ich es sei und nichts von mir selber tue, sondern wie mich mein Vater gelehrt hat, so rede ich.
29Und der mich gesandt hat, ist mit mir. Der Vater läßt mich nicht allein; denn ich tue allezeit, was ihm gefällt.
30Da er solches redete, glaubten viele an ihn.
31Da sprach nun Jesus zu den Juden, die an ihn glaubten: So ihr bleiben werdet an meiner Rede, so seid ihr meine rechten Jünger
32und werdet die Wahrheit erkennen, und die Wahrheit wird euch frei machen.
33Da antworteten sie ihm: Wir sind Abrahams Samen, sind niemals jemandes Knecht gewesen; wie sprichst du denn: “Ihr sollt frei werden”?
34Jesus antwortete ihnen und sprach: Wahrlich, wahrlich ich sage euch: Wer Sünde tut, der ist der Sünde Knecht.
35Der Knecht aber bleibt nicht ewiglich im Hause; der Sohn bleibt ewiglich.
36So euch nun der Sohn frei macht, so seid ihr recht frei.
37Ich weiß wohl, daß ihr Abrahams Samen seid; aber ihr sucht mich zu töten, denn meine Rede fängt nicht bei euch.
38Ich rede, was ich von meinem Vater gesehen habe; so tut ihr, was ihr von eurem Vater gesehen habt.
39Sie antworteten und sprachen zu ihm: Abraham ist unser Vater. Spricht Jesus zu ihnen: Wenn ihr Abrahams Kinder wärt, so tätet ihr Abrahams Werke.
40Nun aber sucht ihr mich zu töten, einen solchen Menschen, der ich euch die Wahrheit gesagt habe, die ich von Gott gehört habe. Das hat Abraham nicht getan.
41Ihr tut eures Vaters Werke. Da sprachen sie zu ihm: Wir sind nicht unehelich geboren, wir haben einen Vater, Gott.
42Jesus sprach zu ihnen: Wäre Gott euer Vater, so liebtet ihr mich; denn ich bin ausgegangen und komme von Gott; denn ich bin nicht von mir selber gekommen, sondern er hat mich gesandt.
43Warum kennet ihr denn meine Sprache nicht? Denn ihr könnt ja mein Wort nicht hören.
44Ihr seid von dem Vater, dem Teufel, und nach eures Vaters Lust wollt ihr tun. Der ist ein Mörder von Anfang und ist nicht bestanden in der Wahrheit; denn die Wahrheit ist nicht in ihm. Wenn er die Lüge redet, so redet er von seinem Eigenen; denn er ist ein Lügner und ein Vater derselben.
45Ich aber, weil ich die Wahrheit sage, so glaubet ihr mir nicht.
46Welcher unter euch kann mich einer Sünde zeihen? So ich aber die Wahrheit sage, warum glaubet ihr mir nicht?
47Wer von Gott ist, der hört Gottes Worte; darum hört ihr nicht, denn ihr seid nicht von Gott.
48Da antworteten die Juden und sprachen zu ihm: Sagen wir nicht recht, daß du ein Samariter bist und hast den Teufel?
49Jesus antwortete: Ich habe keinen Teufel, sondern ich ehre meinen Vater, und ihr unehret mich.
50Ich suche nicht meine Ehre; es ist aber einer, der sie sucht, und richtet.
51Wahrlich, wahrlich ich sage euch: So jemand mein Wort wird halten, der wird den Tod nicht sehen ewiglich.
52Da sprachen die Juden zu ihm: Nun erkennen wir, daß du den Teufel hast. Abraham ist gestorben und die Propheten, und du sprichst: “So jemand mein Wort hält, der wird den Tod nicht schmecken ewiglich.”
53Bist du denn mehr als unser Vater Abraham, welcher gestorben ist? Und die Propheten sind gestorben. Was machst du aus dir selbst?
54Jesus antwortete: So ich mich selber ehre, so ist meine Ehre nichts. Es ist aber mein Vater, der mich ehrt, von welchem ihr sprecht, er sei euer Gott;
55und kennet ihn nicht, ich aber kenne ihn. Und so ich würde sagen: Ich kenne ihn nicht, so würde ich ein Lügner, gleichwie ihr seid. Aber ich kenne ihn und halte sein Wort.
56Abraham, euer Vater, ward froh, daß er meinen Tag sehen sollte; und er sah ihn und freute sich.
57Da sprachen die Juden zu ihm: Du bist noch nicht fünfzig Jahre alt und hast Abraham gesehen?
58Jesus sprach zu ihnen: Wahrlich, wahrlich ich sage euch: Ehe denn Abraham ward, bin ich.
59Da hoben sie Steine auf, daß sie auf ihn würfen. Aber Jesus verbarg sich und ging zum Tempel hinaus.

2Y por la mañana volvió al templo, y todo el pueblo vino á él: y sentado él, los enseñaba.
3Entonces los escribas y los Fariseos le traen una mujer tomada en adulterio; y poniéndola en medio,
4Dícenle: Maestro, esta mujer ha sido tomada en el mismo hecho, adulterando;
5Y en la ley Moisés nos mandó apedrear á las tales: tú pues, ¿qué dices?
6Mas esto decían tentándole, para poder acusarle. Empero Jesús, inclinado hacia abajo, escribía en tierra con el dedo.
7Y como perseverasen preguntándole, enderezóse, y díjoles: El que de vosotros esté sin pecado, arroje contra ella la piedra el primero.
8Y volviéndose á inclinar hacia abajo, escribía en tierra.
9Oyendo, pues, ellos, redargüidos de la conciencia, salíanse uno á uno, comenzando desde los más viejos hasta los postreros: y quedó solo Jesús, y la mujer que estaba en medio.
10Y enderezándose Jesús, y no viendo á nadie más que á la mujer, díjole: ¿Mujer, dónde están los que te acusaban? ¿Ninguno te ha condenado?
11Y ella dijo: Señor, ninguno. Entonces Jesús le dijo: Ni yo te condeno: vete, y no peques más.
12Y hablóles Jesús otra vez, diciendo: Yo soy la luz del mundo: el que me sigue, no andará en tinieblas, mas tendrá la lumbre de la vida.
13Entonces los Fariseos le dijeron: Tú de ti mismo das testimonio: tu testimonio no es verdadero.
14Respondió Jesús, y díjoles: Aunque yo doy testimonio de mí mismo, mi testimonio es verdadero, porque sé de dónde he venido y á dónde voy; mas vosotros no sabéis de dónde vengo, y á dónde voy.
15Vosotros según la carne juzgáis; mas yo no juzgo á nadie.
16Y si yo juzgo, mi juicio es verdadero; porque no soy solo, sino yo y el que me envió, el Padre.
17Y en vuestra ley está escrito que el testimonio de dos hombres es verdadero.
18Yo soy el que doy testimonio de mí mismo: y da testimonio de mí el que me envió, el Padre.
19Y decíanle: ¿Dónde está tu Padre? Respondió Jesús: Ni á mí me conocéis, ni á mi Padre; si á mí me conocieseis, á mi Padre también conocierais.
20Estas palabras habló Jesús en el lugar de las limosnas, enseñando en el templo: y nadie le prendió; porque aun no había venido su hora.
21Y díjoles otra vez Jesús: Yo me voy, y me buscaréis, mas en vuestro pecado moriréis: á donde yo voy, vosotros no podéis venir.
22Decían entonces los Judíos: ¿Hase de matar á sí mismo, que dice: A donde yo voy, vosotros no podéis venir?
23Y decíales: Vosotros sois de abajo, yo soy de arriba; vosotros sois de este mundo, yo no soy de este mundo.
24Por eso os dije que moriréis en vuestros pecados; porque si no creyereis que yo soy, en vuestros pecados moriréis.
25Y decíanle: ¿Tú quién eres? Entonces Jesús les dijo: El que al principio también os he dicho.
26Muchas cosas tengo que decir y juzgar de vosotros: mas el que me envió, es verdadero: y yo, lo que he oído de él, esto hablo en el mundo.
27Mas no entendieron que él les hablaba del Padre.
28Díjoles pues, Jesús: Cuando levantareis al Hijo del hombre, entonces entenderéis que yo soy, y que nada hago de mí mismo; mas como el Padre me enseñó, esto hablo.
29Porque el que me envió, conmigo está; no me ha dejado solo el Padre; porque yo, lo que á él agrada, hago siempre.
30Hablando él estas cosas, muchos creyeron en él.
31Y decía Jesús á los Judíos que le habían creído: Si vosotros permaneciereis en mi palabra, seréis verdaderamente mis discípulos;
32Y conoceréis la verdad, y la verdad os libertará.
33Y respondiéronle: Simiente de Abraham somos, y jamás servimos á nadie: ¿cómo dices tú: Seréis libres?
34Jesús les respondió: De cierto, de cierto os digo, que todo aquel que hace pecado, es siervo de pecado.
35Y el siervo no queda en casa para siempre: el hijo queda para siempre.
36Así que, si el Hijo os libertare, seréis verdaderamente libres.
37Sé que sois simiente de Abraham, mas procuráis matarme, porque mi palabra no cabe en vosotros.
38Yo hablo lo que he visto cerca del Padre; y vosotros hacéis lo que habéis oído cerca de vuestro padre.
39Respondieron y dijéronle: Nuestro padre es Abraham. Díceles Jesús: Si fuerais hijos de Abraham, las obras de Abraham haríais.
40Empero ahora procuráis matarme, hombre que os he hablado la verdad, la cual he oído de Dios: no hizo esto Abraham.
41Vosotros hacéis las obras de vuestro padre. Dijéronle entonces: Nosotros no somos nacidos de fornicación; un padre tenemos, que es Dios.
42Jesús entonces les dijo: Si vuestro padre fuera Dios, ciertamente me amaríais: porque yo de Dios he salido, y he venido; que no he venido de mí mismo, mas él me envió.
43¿Por qué no reconocéis mi lenguaje? porque no podéis oir mi palabra.
44Vosotros de vuestro padre el diablo sois, y los deseos de vuestro padre queréis cumplir. El, homicida ha sido desde el principio, y no permaneció en la verdad, porque no hay verdad en él. Cuando habla mentira, de suyo habla; porque es mentiroso, y padre de mentira.
45Y porque yo digo verdad, no me creéis.
46¿Quién de vosotros me redarguye de pecado? Pues si digo verdad, ¿por qué vosotros no me creéis?
47El que es de Dios, las palabras de Dios oye: por esto no las oís vosotros, porque no sois de Dios.
48Respondieron entonces los Judíos, y dijéronle: ¿No decimos bien nosotros, que tú eres Samaritano, y tienes demonio?
49Respondió Jesús: Yo no tengo demonio, antes honro á mi Padre; y vosotros me habéis deshonrado.
50Y no busco mi gloria: hay quien la busque, y juzgue.
51De cierto, de cierto os digo, que el que guardare mi palabra, no verá muerte para siempre.
52Entonces los Judíos le dijeron: Ahora conocemos que tienes demonio. Abraham murió, y los profetas, y tú dices: El que guardare mi palabra, no gustará muerte para siempre.
53¿Eres tú mayor que nuestro padre Abraham, el cual murió? y los profetas murieron: ¿quién te haces á ti mismo?
54Respondió Jesús: Si yo me glorifico á mí mismo, mi gloria es nada: mi Padre es el que me glorifica; el que vosotros decís que es vuestro Dios;
55Y no le conocéis: mas yo le conozco; y si dijere que no le conozco, seré como vosotros mentiroso: mas le conozco, y guardo su palabra.
56Abraham vuestro padre se gozó por ver mi día; y lo vió, y se gozó.
57Dijéronle entonces los Judíos: Aun no tienes cincuenta años, ¿y has visto á Abraham?
58Díjoles Jesús: De cierto, de cierto os digo: Antes que Abraham fuese, yo soy.
59Tomaron entonces piedras para tirarle: mas Jesús se encubrió, y salió del templo; y atravesando por medio de ellos, se fué.

1Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.
2And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.
3And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,
4They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.
5Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?
6This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.
7So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
8And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.
9And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
10When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
11She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
12Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
13The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true.
14Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.
15Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.
16And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.
17It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true.
18I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.
19Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also.
20These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come.
21Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.
22Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come.
23And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.
24I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.
25Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning.
26I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him.
27They understood not that he spake to them of the Father.
28Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.
29And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.
30As he spake these words, many believed on him.
31Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
32And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
33They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?
34Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
35And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.
36If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
37I know that ye are Abraham’s seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.
38I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.
39They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham.
40But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.
41Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.
42Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.
43Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.
44Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
45And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.
46Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?
47He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.
48Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?
49Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me.
50And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.
51Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.
52Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death.
53Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself?
54Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:
55Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying.
56Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.
57Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?
58Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
59Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

1but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
2Now very early in the morning, he came again into the temple, and all the people came to him. He sat down and taught them.
3The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman taken in adultery. Having set her in the middle,
4they told him, “Teacher, we found this woman in adultery, in the very act.
5Now in our law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. What then do you say about her?”
6They said this testing him, that they might have something to accuse him of. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with his finger.
7But when they continued asking him, he looked up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw the first stone at her.”
8Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground with his finger.
9They, when they heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning from the oldest, even to the last. Jesus was left alone with the woman where she was, in the middle.
10Jesus, standing up, saw her and said, “Woman, where are your accusers? Did no one condemn you?”
11She said, “No one, Lord.” Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you. Go your way. From now on, sin no more.”
12Again, therefore, Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.”
13The Pharisees therefore said to him, “You testify about yourself. Your testimony is not valid.”
14Jesus answered them, “Even if I testify about myself, my testimony is true, for I know where I came from, and where I am going; but you don’t know where I came from, or where I am going.
15You judge according to the flesh. I judge no one.
16Even if I do judge, my judgment is true, for I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent me.
17It’s also written in your law that the testimony of two people is valid.
18I am one who testifies about myself, and the Father who sent me testifies about me.”
19They said therefore to him, “Where is your Father?” Jesus answered, “You know neither me nor my Father. If you knew me, you would know my Father also.”
20Jesus spoke these words in the treasury, as he taught in the temple. Yet no one arrested him, because his hour had not yet come.
21Jesus said therefore again to them, “I am going away, and you will seek me, and you will die in your sins. Where I go, you can’t come.”
22The Jews therefore said, “Will he kill himself, because he says, ‘Where I am going, you can’t come’?”
23He said to them, “You are from beneath. I am from above. You are of this world. I am not of this world.
24I said therefore to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am he, you will die in your sins.”
25They said therefore to him, “Who are you?” Jesus said to them, “Just what I have been saying to you from the beginning.
26I have many things to speak and to judge concerning you. However, he who sent me is true; and the things which I heard from him, these I say to the world.”
27They didn’t understand that he spoke to them about the Father.
28Jesus therefore said to them, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he, and I do nothing of myself, but as my Father taught me, I say these things.
29He who sent me is with me. The Father hasn’t left me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to him.”
30As he spoke these things, many believed in him.
31Jesus therefore said to those Jews who had believed him, “If you remain in my word, then you are truly my disciples.
32You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”
33They answered him, “We are Abraham’s offspring, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How do you say, ‘You will be made free’?”
34Jesus answered them, “Most certainly I tell you, everyone who commits sin is the bondservant of sin.
35A bondservant doesn’t live in the house forever. A son remains forever.
36If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.
37I know that you are Abraham’s offspring, yet you seek to kill me, because my word finds no place in you.
38I say the things which I have seen with my Father; and you also do the things which you have seen with your father.”
39They answered him, “Our father is Abraham.” Jesus said to them, “If you were Abraham’s children, you would do the works of Abraham.
40But now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth which I heard from God. Abraham didn’t do this.
41You do the works of your father.” They said to him, “We were not born of sexual immorality. We have one Father, God.”
42Therefore Jesus said to them, “If God were your father, you would love me, for I came out and have come from God. For I haven’t come of myself, but he sent me.
43Why don’t you understand my speech? Because you can’t hear my word.
44You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and doesn’t stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks on his own; for he is a liar, and the father of lies.
45But because I tell the truth, you don’t believe me.
46Which of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me?
47He who is of God hears the words of God. For this cause you don’t hear, because you are not of God.”
48Then the Jews answered him, “Don’t we say well that you are a Samaritan, and have a demon?”
49Jesus answered, “I don’t have a demon, but I honor my Father and you dishonor me.
50But I don’t seek my own glory. There is one who seeks and judges.
51Most certainly, I tell you, if a person keeps my word, he will never see death.”
52Then the Jews said to him, “Now we know that you have a demon. Abraham died, as did the prophets; and you say, ‘If a man keeps my word, he will never taste of death.’
53Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died? The prophets died. Who do you make yourself out to be?”
54Jesus answered, “If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say that he is our God.
55You have not known him, but I know him. If I said, ‘I don’t know him,’ I would be like you, a liar. But I know him and keep his word.
56Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day. He saw it and was glad.”
57The Jews therefore said to him, “You are not yet fifty years old! Have you seen Abraham?”
58Jesus said to them, “Most certainly, I tell you, before Abraham came into existence, I AM.”
59Therefore they took up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple, having gone through the middle of them, and so passed by.
