1Al pasar, vio a un hombre ciego de nacimiento.
2Sus discípulos le preguntaron: “Rabí, ¿quién pecó, este hombre o sus padres, para que naciera ciego?”
3Jesús respondió: “Este hombre no pecó, ni tampoco sus padres, sino para que las obras de Dios se manifiesten en él.
4Yo debo hacer las obras del que me envió mientras es de día. Se acerca la noche, cuando nadie puede trabajar.
5Mientras estoy en el mundo, soy la luz del mundo”.
6Dicho esto, escupió en el suelo, hizo lodo con la saliva, ungió los ojos del ciego con el lodo,
7y le dijo: “Ve, lávate en el estanque de Siloé” (que significa “Enviado”). Así que se fue, se lavó y volvió viendo.
8Por eso, los vecinos y los que habían visto que era ciego antes decían: “¿No es este el que se sentaba a pedir limosna?”
9Otros decían: “Es él”. Y otros decían: “Se parece a él”. Dijo: “Yo soy”.
10Por eso le preguntaban: “¿Cómo se te abrieron los ojos?”
11Respondió: “Un hombre llamado Jesús hizo lodo, me untó los ojos y me dijo: ‘Ve al estanque de Siloé y lávate’. Así que fui y me lavé, y recibí la vista”.
12Entonces le preguntaron: “¿Dónde está?” Dijo: “No lo sé”.
13Llevaron al que había sido ciego a los fariseos.
14Era sábado cuando Jesús hizo el lodo y le abrió los ojos.
15También los fariseos le preguntaron cómo había recibido la vista. Él les dijo: “Me puso lodo en los ojos, me lavé y veo”.
16Por eso algunos de los fariseos decían: “Este hombre no es de Dios, porque no guarda el sábado”. Otros decían: “¿Cómo puede hacer tales señales un hombre que es pecador?” Así que hubo división entre ellos.
17Por eso volvieron a preguntar al ciego: “¿Qué dices de él, porque te ha abierto los ojos?” Dijo: “Es un profeta”.
18Los judíos, por tanto, no creían respecto a él que había sido ciego y que había recibido la vista, hasta que llamaron a los padres del que había recibido la vista,
19y les preguntaron: “¿Es este su hijo, del que dicen que nació ciego? ¿Cómo es que ahora ve?”
20Sus padres les respondieron: “Sabemos que este es nuestro hijo y que nació ciego;
21pero cómo ve ahora, no lo sabemos; o quién le abrió los ojos, no lo sabemos. Es mayor de edad. Pregúntenle a él. Él hablará por sí mismo”.
22Sus padres decían estas cosas porque temían a los judíos, pues estos ya habían acordado que si alguno lo confesaba como Cristo, sería expulsado de la sinagoga.
23Por eso sus padres dijeron: “Es mayor de edad. Pregúntenle a él”.
24Entonces llamaron por segunda vez al ciego y le dijeron: “Da gloria a Dios. Sabemos que este hombre es un pecador”.
25Por eso respondió: “No sé si es pecador. Una cosa sí sé: que aunque estaba ciego, ahora veo”.
26Le volvieron a decir: “¿Qué te ha hecho? ¿Cómo te ha abierto los ojos?”
27Él les respondió: “Ya se lo he dicho, y no me han escuchado. ¿Por qué quieren oírlo otra vez? ¿Acaso también quieren hacerse sus discípulos?”
28Lo insultaron y le dijeron: “Tú eres su discípulo, pero nosotros somos discípulos de Moisés.
29Sabemos que Dios ha hablado con Moisés. Pero en cuanto a este hombre, no sabemos de dónde viene”.
30El hombre les respondió: “¡Qué maravilla! No saben de dónde viene, y sin embargo me ha abierto los ojos.
31Sabemos que Dios no escucha a los pecadores, pero si alguien es adorador de Dios y hace su voluntad, lo escucha.
32Desde el principio del mundo no se ha oído decir que alguien haya abierto los ojos a un ciego de nacimiento.
33Si este hombre no viniera de Dios, no podría hacer nada”.
34Le respondieron: “Tú, que has nacido en pecado, ¿nos enseñas?” Entonces lo echaron.
35Jesús oyó que lo habían echado, y encontrándolo, le dijo: “¿Crees en el Hijo de Dios?”
36Él respondió: “¿Quién es, Señor, para que crea en él?”
37Jesús le dijo: “Pues lo has visto, y es él quien habla contigo”.
38Dijo: “¡Señor, creo!” y lo adoró.
39Jesús dijo: “He venido a este mundo para juzgar, para que los que no ven vean y para que los que ven se vuelvan ciegos”.
40Los fariseos que estaban con él oyeron estas cosas y le dijeron: “¿También nosotros somos ciegos?”
41Jesús les dijo: “Si fueran ciegos, no tendrían pecado; pero ahora dicen: ‘Vemos’. Por eso su pecado permanece.

1Y PASANDO Jesús, vió un hombre ciego desde su nacimiento.
2Y preguntáronle sus discípulos, diciendo: Rabbí, ¿quién pecó, éste ó sus padres, para que naciese ciego?
3Respondió Jesús: Ni éste pecó, ni sus padres: mas para que las obras de Dios se manifiesten en él.
4Conviéneme obrar las obras del que me envió, entre tanto que el día dura: la noche viene, cuando nadie puede obrar.
5Entre tanto que estuviere en el mundo, luz soy del mundo.
6Esto dicho, escupió en tierra, é hizo lodo con la saliva, y untó con el lodo sobre los ojos del ciego,
7Y díjole: Ve, lávate en el estanque de Siloé (que significa, si lo interpretares, Enviado). Y fué entonces, y lavóse, y volvió viendo.
8Entonces los vecinos, y los que antes le habían visto que era ciego, decían: ¿No es éste el que se sentaba y mendigaba?
9Unos decían: Este es; y otros: A él se parece. El decía: Yo soy.
10Y dijéronle: ¿Cómo te fueron abiertos los ojos?
11Respondió él y dijo: El hombre que se llama Jesús, hizo lodo, y me untó los ojos, y me dijo: Ve al Siloé, y lávate: y fuí, y me lavé, y recibí la vista.
12Entonces le dijeron: ¿Dónde está aquél? El dijo: No sé.
13Llevaron á los Fariseos al que antes había sido ciego.
14Y era sábado cuando Jesús había hecho el lodo, y le había abierto los ojos.
15Y volviéronle á preguntar también los Fariseos de qué manera había recibido la vista. Y él les dijo: Púsome lodo sobre los ojos, y me lavé, y veo.
16Entonces unos de los Fariseos decían: Este hombre no es de Dios, que no guarda el sábado. Otros decían: ¿Cómo puede un hombre pecador hacer estas señales? Y había disensión entre ellos.
17Vuelven á decir al ciego: ¿Tú, qué dices del que te abrió los ojos? Y él dijo: Que es profeta.
18Mas los Judíos no creían de él, que había sido ciego, y hubiese recibido la vista, hasta que llamaron á los padres del que había recibido la vista;
19Y preguntáronles, diciendo: ¿Es éste vuestro hijo, el que vosotros decís que nació ciego? ¿Cómo, pues, ve ahora?
20Respondiéronles sus padres y dijeron: Sabemos que éste es nuestro hijo, y que nació ciego:
21Mas cómo vea ahora, no sabemos; ó quién le haya abierto los ojos, nosotros no lo sabemos; él tiene edad, preguntadle á él; él hablará de sí.
22Esto dijeron sus padres, porque tenían miedo de los Judíos: porque ya los Judíos habían resuelto que si alguno confesase ser él el Mesías, fuese fuera de la sinagoga.
23Por eso dijeron sus padres: Edad tiene, preguntadle á él.
24Así que, volvieron á llamar al hombre que había sido ciego, y dijéronle: Da gloria á Dios: nosotros sabemos que este hombre es pecador.
25Entonces él respondió, y dijo: Si es pecador, no lo sé: una cosa sé, que habiendo yo sido ciego, ahora veo.
26Y volviéronle á decir: ¿Qué te hizo? ¿Cómo te abrió los ojos?
27Respondióles: Ya os lo he dicho, y no habéis atendido: ¿por qué lo queréis otra vez oir? ¿queréis también vosotros haceros sus discípulos?
28Y le ultrajaron, y dijeron: Tú eres su discípulo; pero nosotros discípulos de Moisés somos.
29Nosotros sabemos que á Moisés habló Dios: mas éste no sabemos de dónde es.
30Respondió aquel hombre, y díjoles: Por cierto, maravillosa cosa es ésta, que vosotros no sabéis de dónde sea, y á mí me abrió los ojos.
31Y sabemos que Dios no oye á los pecadores: mas si alguno es temeroso de Dios, y hace su voluntad, á éste oye.
32Desde el siglo no fué oído, que abriese alguno los ojos de uno que nació ciego.
33Si éste no fuera de Dios, no pudiera hacer nada.
34Respondieron, y dijéronle: En pecados eres nacido todo, ¿y tú nos enseñas? Y echáronle fuera.
35Oyó Jesús que le habían echado fuera; y hallándole, díjole: ¿Crees tú en el Hijo de Dios?
36Respondió él, y dijo: ¿Quién es, Señor, para que crea en él?
37Y díjole Jesús: Y le has visto, y el que habla contigo, él es.
38Y él dice: Creo, Señor; y adoróle.
39Y dijo Jesús: Yo, para juicio he venido á este mundo: para que los que no ven, vean; y los que ven, sean cegados.
40Y ciertos de los Fariseos que estaban con él oyeron esto, y dijéronle: ¿Somos nosotros también ciegos?
41Díjoles Jesús: Si fuerais ciegos, no tuvierais pecado: mas ahora porque decís, Vemos, por tanto vuestro pecado permanece.

1And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.
2And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?
3Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.
4I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
5As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
6When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,
7And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.
8The neighbours therefore, and they which before had seen him that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged?
9Some said, This is he: others said, He is like him: but he said, I am he.
10Therefore said they unto him, How were thine eyes opened?
11He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight.
12Then said they unto him, Where is he? He said, I know not.
13They brought to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind.
14And it was the sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.
15Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see.
16Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them.
17They say unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a prophet.
18But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight.
19And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? how then doth he now see?
20His parents answered them and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:
21But by what means he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age; ask him: he shall speak for himself.
22These words spake his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man did confess that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.
23Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him.
24Then again called they the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner.
25He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.
26Then said they to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes?
27He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples?
28Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are Moses’ disciples.
29We know that God spake unto Moses: as for this fellow, we know not from whence he is.
30The man answered and said unto them, Why herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes.
31Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.
32Since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind.
33If this man were not of God, he could do nothing.
34They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.
35Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?
36He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him?
37And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee.
38And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.
39And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.
40And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also?
41Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.
World English Bible
1As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth.
2His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”
3Jesus answered, “This man didn’t sin, nor did his parents, but that the works of God might be revealed in him.
4I must work the works of him who sent me while it is day. The night is coming, when no one can work.
5While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
6When he had said this, he spat on the ground, made mud with the saliva, anointed the blind man’s eyes with the mud,
7and said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which means “Sent”). So he went away, washed, and came back seeing.
8Therefore the neighbors and those who saw that he was blind before said, “Isn’t this he who sat and begged?”
9Others were saying, “It is he.” Still others were saying, “He looks like him.” He said, “I am he.”

11He answered, “A man called Jesus made mud, anointed my eyes, and said to me, ‘Go to the pool of Siloam and wash.’ So I went away and washed, and I received sight.”
12Then they asked him, “Where is he?” He said, “I don’t know.”

14It was a Sabbath when Jesus made the mud and opened his eyes.
15Again therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he received his sight. He said to them, “He put mud on my eyes, I washed, and I see.”
16Some therefore of the Pharisees said, “This man is not from God, because he doesn’t keep the Sabbath.” Others said, “How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?” So there was division among them.
17Therefore they asked the blind man again, “What do you say about him, because he opened your eyes?” He said, “He is a prophet.”
18The Jews therefore didn’t believe concerning him, that he had been blind and had received his sight, until they called the parents of him who had received his sight,
19and asked them, “Is this your son, whom you say was born blind? How then does he now see?”
20His parents answered them, “We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind;
21but how he now sees, we don’t know; or who opened his eyes, we don’t know. He is of age. Ask him. He will speak for himself.”
22His parents said these things because they feared the Jews; for the Jews had already agreed that if any man would confess him as Christ, he would be put out of the synagogue.
23Therefore his parents said, “He is of age. Ask him.”
24So they called the man who was blind a second time, and said to him, “Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner.”
25He therefore answered, “I don’t know if he is a sinner. One thing I do know: that though I was blind, now I see.”
26They said to him again, “What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?”
27He answered them, “I told you already, and you didn’t listen. Why do you want to hear it again? You don’t also want to become his disciples, do you?”
28They insulted him and said, “You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses.
29We know that God has spoken to Moses. But as for this man, we don’t know where he comes from.”
30The man answered them, “How amazing! You don’t know where he comes from, yet he opened my eyes.
31We know that God doesn’t listen to sinners, but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does his will, he listens to him.
32Since the world began it has never been heard of that anyone opened the eyes of someone born blind.
33If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.”
34They answered him, “You were altogether born in sins, and do you teach us?” Then they threw him out.
35Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and finding him, he said, “Do you believe in the Son of God?”
36He answered, “Who is he, Lord, that I may believe in him?”
37Jesus said to him, “You have both seen him, and it is he who speaks with you.”
38He said, “Lord, I believe!” and he worshiped him.
39Jesus said, “I came into this world for judgment, that those who don’t see may see; and that those who see may become blind.”
40Those of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things, and said to him, “Are we also blind?”
41Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, ‘We see.’ Therefore your sin remains.
