Meine Seele verdrießt mein Leben; ich will meiner Klage bei mir ihren Lauf lassen und reden in der Betrübnis meiner Seele

ESTÁ mi alma aburrida de mi vida: daré yo suelta á mi queja sobre mí, hablaré con amargura de mi alma.

My soul is weary of my life; I will leave my complaint upon myself; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.

und zu Gott sagen: Verdamme mich nicht! laß mich wissen, warum du mit mir haderst.

Diré á Dios: no me condenes; hazme entender por qué pleiteas conmigo.

I will say unto God, Do not condemn me; shew me wherefore thou contendest with me.

I will tell God, ‘Do not condemn me. Show me why you contend with me.

Gefällt dir's, daß du Gewalt tust und mich verwirfst, den deine Hände gemacht haben, und bringst der Gottlosen Vornehmen zu Ehren?

¿Parécete bien que oprimas, que deseches la obra de tus manos, y que resplandezcas sobre el consejo de los impíos?

Is it good unto thee that thou shouldest oppress, that thou shouldest despise the work of thine hands, and shine upon the counsel of the wicked?

Is it good to you that you should oppress, that you should despise the work of your hands, and smile on the counsel of the wicked?

Hast du denn auch fleischliche Augen, oder siehst du, wie ein Mensch sieht?

¿Tienes tú ojos de carne? ¿ves tú como ve el hombre?

Hast thou eyes of flesh? or seest thou as man seeth?

Do you have eyes of flesh? Or do you see as man sees?

Oder ist deine Zeit wie eines Menschen Zeit, oder deine Jahre wie eines Mannes Jahre?

¿Son tus días como los días del hombre, ó tus años como los tiempos humanos,

Are thy days as the days of man? are thy years as man’s days,

Are your days as the days of mortals, or your years as man’s years,

daß du nach einer Missetat fragest und suchest meine Sünde,

Para que inquieras mi iniquidad, y busques mi pecado,

That thou enquirest after mine iniquity, and searchest after my sin?

that you inquire after my iniquity, and search after my sin?

so du doch weißt wie ich nicht gottlos sei, so doch niemand ist, der aus deiner Hand erretten könne.

Sobre saber tú que no soy impío, y que no hay quien de tu mano libre?

Thou knowest that I am not wicked; and there is none that can deliver out of thine hand.

Although you know that I am not wicked, there is no one who can deliver out of your hand.

Deine Hände haben mich bereitet und gemacht alles, was ich um und um bin; und du wolltest mich verderben?

Tus manos me formaron y me compusieron todo en contorno: ¿y así me deshaces?

Thine hands have made me and fashioned me together round about; yet thou dost destroy me.

“‘Your hands have framed me and fashioned me altogether, yet you destroy me.

Gedenke doch, daß du mich aus Lehm gemacht hast; und wirst mich wieder zu Erde machen?

Acuérdate ahora que como á lodo me diste forma: ¿y en polvo me has de tornar?

Remember, I beseech thee, that thou hast made me as the clay; and wilt thou bring me into dust again?

Remember, I beg you, that you have fashioned me as clay. Will you bring me into dust again?

Hast du mich nicht wie Milch hingegossen und wie Käse lassen gerinnen?

¿No me fundiste como leche, y como un queso me cuajaste?

Hast thou not poured me out as milk, and curdled me like cheese?

Haven’t you poured me out like milk, and curdled me like cheese?

Du hast mir Haut und Fleisch angezogen; mit Gebeinen und Adern hast du mich zusammengefügt.

Vestísteme de piel y carne, y cubrísteme de huesos y nervios.

Thou hast clothed me with skin and flesh, and hast fenced me with bones and sinews.

You have clothed me with skin and flesh, and knit me together with bones and sinews.

Leben und Wohltat hast du an mir getan, und dein Aufsehen bewahrt meinen Odem.

Vida y misericordia me concediste, y tu visitación guardó mi espíritu.

Thou hast granted me life and favour, and thy visitation hath preserved my spirit.

You have granted me life and loving kindness. Your visitation has preserved my spirit.

Aber dies verbargst du in deinem Herzen, ich weiß, daß du solches im Sinn hattest:

Y estas cosas tienes guardadas en tu corazón; yo sé que esto está cerca de ti.

And these things hast thou hid in thine heart: I know that this is with thee.

Yet you hid these things in your heart. I know that this is with you:

wenn ich sündigte, so wolltest du es bald merken und meine Missetat nicht ungestraft lassen.

Si pequé, tú me has observado, y no me limpias de mi iniquidad.

If I sin, then thou markest me, and thou wilt not acquit me from mine iniquity.

if I sin, then you mark me. You will not acquit me from my iniquity.

Bin ich gottlos, dann wehe mir! bin ich gerecht, so darf ich doch mein Haupt nicht aufheben, als der ich voll Schmach bin und sehe mein Elend.

Si fuere malo, ¡ay de mí! y si fuere justo, no levantaré mi cabeza, estando harto de deshonra, y de verme afligido.

If I be wicked, woe unto me; and if I be righteous, yet will I not lift up my head. I am full of confusion; therefore see thou mine affliction;

If I am wicked, woe to me. If I am righteous, I still will not lift up my head, being filled with disgrace, and conscious of my affliction.

Und wenn ich es aufrichte, so jagst du mich wie ein Löwe und handelst wiederum wunderbar an mir.

Y subirá de punto, pues me cazas como á león, y tornas á hacer en mí maravillas.

For it increaseth. Thou huntest me as a fierce lion: and again thou shewest thyself marvellous upon me.

If my head is held high, you hunt me like a lion. Again you show yourself powerful to me.

Du erneuest deine Zeugen wider mich und machst deines Zornes viel auf mich; es zerplagt mich eins über das andere in Haufen.

Renuevas contra mí tus plagas, y aumentas conmigo tu furor, remudándose sobre mí ejércitos.

Thou renewest thy witnesses against me, and increasest thine indignation upon me; changes and war are against me.

You renew your witnesses against me, and increase your indignation on me. Changes and warfare are with me.

Warum hast du mich aus Mutterleib kommen lassen? Ach, daß ich wäre umgekommen und mich nie ein Auge gesehen hätte!

¿Por qué me sacaste de la matriz? Habría yo espirado, y no me vieran ojos.

Wherefore then hast thou brought me forth out of the womb? Oh that I had given up the ghost, and no eye had seen me!

“‘Why, then, have you brought me out of the womb? I wish I had given up the spirit, and no eye had seen me.

So wäre ich, als die nie gewesen sind, von Mutterleibe zum Grabe gebracht.

Fuera, como si nunca hubiera sido, llevado desde el vientre á la sepultura.

I should have been as though I had not been; I should have been carried from the womb to the grave.

I should have been as though I had not been. I should have been carried from the womb to the grave.

Ist denn mein Leben nicht kurz? So höre er auf und lasse ab von mir, daß ich ein wenig erquickt werde,

¿No son mis días poca cosa? Cesa pues, y déjame, para que me conforte un poco.

Are not my days few? cease then, and let me alone, that I may take comfort a little,

Aren’t my days few? Stop! Leave me alone, that I may find a little comfort,

ehe ich denn hingehe und komme nicht wieder, ins Land der Finsternis und des Dunkels,

Antes que vaya para no volver, á la tierra de tinieblas y de sombra de muerte;

Before I go whence I shall not return, even to the land of darkness and the shadow of death;

before I go where I will not return from, to the land of darkness and of the shadow of death;

ins Land da es stockfinster ist und da keine Ordnung ist, und wenn's hell wird, so ist es wie Finsternis.

Tierra de oscuridad, lóbrega como sombra de muerte, sin orden, y que aparece como la oscuridad misma.

A land of darkness, as darkness itself; and of the shadow of death, without any order, and where the light is as darkness.

the land dark as midnight, of the shadow of death, without any order, where the light is as midnight.’”
