My soul is weary of my life; I will leave my complaint upon myself; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.

Le he dicho a Dios: No te limites a condenarme: dime por qué lo haces.
Diré á Dios: no me condenes; hazme entender por qué pleiteas conmigo.
I will say unto God, Do not condemn me; shew me wherefore thou contendest with me.
I will tell God, ‘Do not condemn me. Show me why you contend with me.
¿De veras te parece bien oprimir y despreciar la obra de tus manos, y dar alegría y prosperidad a los malvados?
¿Parécete bien que oprimas, que deseches la obra de tus manos, y que resplandezcas sobre el consejo de los impíos?
Is it good unto thee that thou shouldest oppress, that thou shouldest despise the work of thine hands, and shine upon the counsel of the wicked?
Is it good to you that you should oppress, that you should despise the work of your hands, and smile on the counsel of the wicked?
¿Eres injusto como los hombres? ¿Es tan breve tu vida como la de los humanos, que hayas de perseguirme por pecados que bien sabes no he cometido? ¿Será ello porque sabes que nadie puede librarme de tu mano?
¿Tienes tú ojos de carne? ¿ves tú como ve el hombre?
Hast thou eyes of flesh? or seest thou as man seeth?
Do you have eyes of flesh? Or do you see as man sees?

¿Son tus días como los días del hombre, ó tus años como los tiempos humanos,
Are thy days as the days of man? are thy years as man’s days,
Are your days as the days of mortals, or your years as man’s years,

Para que inquieras mi iniquidad, y busques mi pecado,
That thou enquirest after mine iniquity, and searchest after my sin?
that you inquire after my iniquity, and search after my sin?

Sobre saber tú que no soy impío, y que no hay quien de tu mano libre?
Thou knowest that I am not wicked; and there is none that can deliver out of thine hand.
Although you know that I am not wicked, there is no one who can deliver out of your hand.
»Tú me hiciste, y sin embargo me destruyes.
Tus manos me formaron y me compusieron todo en contorno: ¿y así me deshaces?
Thine hands have made me and fashioned me together round about; yet thou dost destroy me.
“‘Your hands have framed me and fashioned me altogether, yet you destroy me.
¡Ay, te ruego que recuerdes que estoy hecho de polvo! ¿Tan pronto me harás volver al polvo?
Acuérdate ahora que como á lodo me diste forma: ¿y en polvo me has de tornar?
Remember, I beseech thee, that thou hast made me as the clay; and wilt thou bring me into dust again?
Remember, I beg you, that you have fashioned me as clay. Will you bring me into dust again?
Tú me has cambiado de vasija en vasija como leche y me has cuajado como queso.
¿No me fundiste como leche, y como un queso me cuajaste?
Hast thou not poured me out as milk, and curdled me like cheese?
Haven’t you poured me out like milk, and curdled me like cheese?
Me diste piel y carne y uniste mis huesos y tendones.
Vestísteme de piel y carne, y cubrísteme de huesos y nervios.
Thou hast clothed me with skin and flesh, and hast fenced me with bones and sinews.
You have clothed me with skin and flesh, and knit me together with bones and sinews.
Me diste vida, y fuiste bueno y amoroso conmigo, y por tu cuidado me conservo vivo.
Vida y misericordia me concediste, y tu visitación guardó mi espíritu.
Thou hast granted me life and favour, and thy visitation hath preserved my spirit.
You have granted me life and loving kindness. Your visitation has preserved my spirit.
»Y sin embargo, sé que tu verdadera intención siempre fue vigilarme a ver si yo pecaba y negarte a perdonar mi iniquidad.
Y estas cosas tienes guardadas en tu corazón; yo sé que esto está cerca de ti.
And these things hast thou hid in thine heart: I know that this is with thee.
Yet you hid these things in your heart. I know that this is with you:

Si pequé, tú me has observado, y no me limpias de mi iniquidad.
If I sin, then thou markest me, and thou wilt not acquit me from mine iniquity.
if I sin, then you mark me. You will not acquit me from my iniquity.
Si soy culpable, ¡pobre de mí! Y si soy inocente, de nada me vale. ¿Qué esperanza tengo?
Si fuere malo, ¡ay de mí! y si fuere justo, no levantaré mi cabeza, estando harto de deshonra, y de verme afligido.
If I be wicked, woe unto me; and if I be righteous, yet will I not lift up my head. I am full of confusion; therefore see thou mine affliction;
If I am wicked, woe to me. If I am righteous, I still will not lift up my head, being filled with disgrace, and conscious of my affliction.
Si comienzo a levantarme del suelo, saltas sobre mí como un león y pronto acabas conmigo.
Y subirá de punto, pues me cazas como á león, y tornas á hacer en mí maravillas.
For it increaseth. Thou huntest me as a fierce lion: and again thou shewest thyself marvellous upon me.
If my head is held high, you hunt me like a lion. Again you show yourself powerful to me.
Renuevas tus testimonios contra mí y derramas sobre mí tu ira como torrente que aumenta sin cesar, y contra mí enfilas nuevos ejércitos.
Renuevas contra mí tus plagas, y aumentas conmigo tu furor, remudándose sobre mí ejércitos.
Thou renewest thy witnesses against me, and increasest thine indignation upon me; changes and war are against me.
You renew your witnesses against me, and increase your indignation on me. Changes and warfare are with me.
»¿Por qué entonces dejaste que naciera? ¿Por qué no me dejaste morir al nacer?
¿Por qué me sacaste de la matriz? Habría yo espirado, y no me vieran ojos.
Wherefore then hast thou brought me forth out of the womb? Oh that I had given up the ghost, and no eye had seen me!
“‘Why, then, have you brought me out of the womb? I wish I had given up the spirit, and no eye had seen me.
Así me habría ahorrado esta mísera existencia. Habría pasado directamente del vientre al sepulcro.
Fuera, como si nunca hubiera sido, llevado desde el vientre á la sepultura.
I should have been as though I had not been; I should have been carried from the womb to the grave.

¿No ves cuán poco tiempo me queda? ¡Ay! Apártate de mí para que pueda tener un poco de consuelo antes de partir hacia la tierra de oscuridad y sombra de muerte, para ya nunca volver; tierra tenebrosa como la medianoche, tierra de sombra de muerte donde sólo reina la confusión, y donde la misma claridad es negra como la noche».
¿No son mis días poca cosa? Cesa pues, y déjame, para que me conforte un poco.
Are not my days few? cease then, and let me alone, that I may take comfort a little,
Aren’t my days few? Stop! Leave me alone, that I may find a little comfort,

Antes que vaya para no volver, á la tierra de tinieblas y de sombra de muerte;
Before I go whence I shall not return, even to the land of darkness and the shadow of death;
before I go where I will not return from, to the land of darkness and of the shadow of death;

Tierra de oscuridad, lóbrega como sombra de muerte, sin orden, y que aparece como la oscuridad misma.
A land of darkness, as darkness itself; and of the shadow of death, without any order, and where the light is as darkness.
