1Entonces Zofar de Naamat respondió:
2“¿Acaso no habrá respuesta para tantas palabras? ¿Crees que por hablar mucho tienes la razón?
3¿Piensas que tus mentiras nos van a callar a todos? ¿Te vas a burlar de Dios sin que nadie te ponga en vergüenza?
4Tú afirmas: ‘Lo que enseño es puro y soy inocente ante los ojos de Dios’.
5¡Cómo quisiera que Dios mismo hablara y abriera sus labios para responderte!
6Él te mostraría los secretos de la sabiduría, porque la verdadera sabiduría tiene muchos lados. Reconozcan, pues, que Dios les está cobrando menos de lo que su maldad merece.
7“¿Acaso puedes entender los misterios de Dios? ¿Puedes explorar los límites del Todopoderoso?
8Son más altos que los cielos; ¿qué puedes hacer tú? Son más profundos que el lugar de los muertos; ¿qué puedes saber tú?
9Su grandeza es más extensa que la tierra y más ancha que el mar.
10Si él pasa y te arresta, o si te llama a juicio, ¿quién se le puede oponer?
11Porque él conoce bien a los mentirosos; cuando ve la maldad, no la pasa por alto.
12El hombre necio se hará sabio el día que una cría de burro salvaje nazca siendo persona.
13“Pero si tú preparas tu corazón y levantas tus manos hacia él en oración;
14si te alejas de la maldad que tienes en las manos y no dejas que la injusticia viva en tu casa,
15entonces podrás levantar la frente limpia de pecado; estarás firme y no tendrás miedo.
16Olvidarás tus sufrimientos, o los recordarás como agua que ya pasó.
17Tu vida será más brillante que el sol del mediodía, y hasta tus momentos oscuros brillarán como el amanecer.
18Vivirás tranquilo porque hay esperanza; te sentirás protegido y dormirás seguro.
19Descansarás sin que nadie te asuste, y muchos buscarán ganarse tu favor.
20Pero a los malvados se les cansará la vista buscando ayuda; no tendrán a dónde huir, y su única esperanza será la muerte”.

1Y RESPONDIÓ Sophar Naamathita, y dijo:
2¿Las muchas palabras no han de tener respuesta? ¿y el hombre parlero será justificado?
3¿Harán tus falacias callar á los hombres? ¿y harás escarnio, y no habrá quien te avergüence?
4Tú dices: Mi conversar es puro, y yo soy limpio delante de tus ojos.
5Mas ¡oh quién diera que Dios hablara, y abriera sus labios contigo,
6Y que te declarara los arcanos de la sabiduría, que son de doble valor que la hacienda! Conocerías entonces que Dios te ha castigado menos que tu iniquidad merece.
7¿Alcanzarás tú el rastro de Dios? ¿llegarás tú á la perfección del Todopoderoso?
8Es más alto que los cielos: ¿qué harás? Es más profundo que el infierno: ¿cómo lo conocerás?
9Su dimensión es más larga que la tierra, y más ancha que la mar.
10Si cortare, ó encerrare, ó juntare, ¿quién podrá contrarrestarle?
11Porque él conoce á los hombres vanos: ve asimismo la iniquidad, ¿y no hará caso?
12El hombre vano se hará entendido, aunque nazca como el pollino del asno montés.
13Si tú apercibieres tu corazón, y extendieres á él tus manos;
14Si alguna iniquidad hubiere en tu mano, y la echares de ti, y no consintieres que more maldad en tus habitaciones;
15Entonces levantarás tu rostro limpio de mancha, y serás fuerte y no temerás:
16Y olvidarás tu trabajo, ó te acordarás de él como de aguas que pasaron:
17Y en mitad de la siesta se levantará bonanza; resplandecerás, y serás como la mañana:
18Y confiarás, que habrá esperanza; y cavarás, y dormirás seguro:
19Y te acostarás, y no habrá quien te espante: y muchos te rogarán.
20Mas los ojos de los malos se consumirán, y no tendrán refugio; y su esperanza será agonía del alma.
King James Version
1Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,
2Should not the multitude of words be answered? and should a man full of talk be justified?
3Should thy lies make men hold their peace? and when thou mockest, shall no man make thee ashamed?
4For thou hast said, My doctrine is pure, and I am clean in thine eyes.
5But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against thee;
6And that he would shew thee the secrets of wisdom, that they are double to that which is! Know therefore that God exacteth of thee less than thine iniquity deserveth.
7Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection?
8It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know?
9The measure thereof is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.
10If he cut off, and shut up, or gather together, then who can hinder him?
11For he knoweth vain men: he seeth wickedness also; will he not then consider it?
12For vain man would be wise, though man be born like a wild ass’s colt.
13If thou prepare thine heart, and stretch out thine hands toward him;
14If iniquity be in thine hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in thy tabernacles.
15For then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot; yea, thou shalt be stedfast, and shalt not fear:
16Because thou shalt forget thy misery, and remember it as waters that pass away:
17And thine age shall be clearer than the noonday; thou shalt shine forth, thou shalt be as the morning.
18And thou shalt be secure, because there is hope; yea, thou shalt dig about thee, and thou shalt take thy rest in safety.
19Also thou shalt lie down, and none shall make thee afraid; yea, many shall make suit unto thee.
20But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall not escape, and their hope shall be as the giving up of the ghost.
World English Bible
1Then Zophar, the Naamathite, answered,
2“Shouldn’t the multitude of words be answered? Should a man full of talk be justified?
3Should your boastings make men hold their peace? When you mock, will no man make you ashamed?
4For you say, ‘My doctrine is pure. I am clean in your eyes.’
5But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against you,
6that he would show you the secrets of wisdom! For true wisdom has two sides. Know therefore that God exacts of you less than your iniquity deserves.
7“Can you fathom the mystery of God? Or can you probe the limits of the Almighty?
8They are high as heaven. What can you do? They are deeper than Sheol. What can you know?
9Its measure is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.
10If he passes by, or confines, or convenes a court, then who can oppose him?
11For he knows false men. He sees iniquity also, even though he doesn’t consider it.
12An empty-headed man becomes wise when a man is born as a wild donkey’s colt.
13“If you set your heart aright, stretch out your hands toward him.
14If iniquity is in your hand, put it far away. Don’t let unrighteousness dwell in your tents.
15Surely then you will lift up your face without spot. Yes, you will be steadfast, and will not fear,
16for you will forget your misery. You will remember it like waters that have passed away.
17Life will be clearer than the noonday. Though there is darkness, it will be as the morning.
18You will be secure, because there is hope. Yes, you will search, and will take your rest in safety.
19Also you will lie down, and no one will make you afraid. Yes, many will court your favor.
20But the eyes of the wicked will fail. They will have no way to flee. Their hope will be the giving up of the spirit.”
