Or Sophar le Minéen, prenant la parole, dit :

Y RESPONDIÓ Sophar Naamathita, y dijo:

Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,

Then Zophar, the Naamathite, answered,

Celui qui parle tant, à son tour écoutera : l'homme verbeux semble-t-il juste ? Le fils de la femme qui vit peu est béni.

¿Las muchas palabras no han de tener respuesta? ¿y el hombre parlero será justificado?

Should not the multitude of words be answered? and should a man full of talk be justified?

“Shouldn’t the multitude of words be answered? Should a man full of talk be justified?

Ne te répands pas en longs discours, puisque nul ne plaide contre toi.

¿Harán tus falacias callar á los hombres? ¿y harás escarnio, y no habrá quien te avergüence?

Should thy lies make men hold their peace? and when thou mockest, shall no man make thee ashamed?

Should your boastings make men hold their peace? When you mock, will no man make you ashamed?

Surtout, garde-toi de dire : Je suis pur dans mes œuvres ; je suis irréprochable devant Dieu.

Tú dices: Mi conversar es puro, y yo soy limpio delante de tus ojos.

For thou hast said, My doctrine is pure, and I am clean in thine eyes.

For you say, ‘My doctrine is pure. I am clean in your eyes.’

Car par quel moyen le Seigneur pourrait-il te répondre et ouvrir les lèvres en même temps que toi ?

Mas ¡oh quién diera que Dios hablara, y abriera sus labios contigo,

But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against thee;

But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against you,

Ensuite il te donnera la force du sage deux fois plus que ne l'ont ceux qui te ressemblent ; tu reconnaîtras alors que le Seigneur t'a rétribué justement, selon tes péchés.

Y que te declarara los arcanos de la sabiduría, que son de doble valor que la hacienda! Conocerías entonces que Dios te ha castigado menos que tu iniquidad merece.

And that he would shew thee the secrets of wisdom, that they are double to that which is! Know therefore that God exacteth of thee less than thine iniquity deserveth.

that he would show you the secrets of wisdom! For true wisdom has two sides. Know therefore that God exacts of you less than your iniquity deserves.

Découvriras-tu les traces du Seigneur ? Es-tu parvenu jusqu'aux dernières limites de ce que le Tout-Puissant a créé ?

¿Alcanzarás tú el rastro de Dios? ¿llegarás tú á la perfección del Todopoderoso?

Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection?

“Can you fathom the mystery of God? Or can you probe the limits of the Almighty?

Le ciel est haut, que feras-tu ? L'abîme est profond, que feras-tu ?

Es más alto que los cielos: ¿qué harás? Es más profundo que el infierno: ¿cómo lo conocerás?

It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know?

They are high as heaven. What can you do? They are deeper than Sheol. What can you know?

Les dimensions de la terre, l'étendue des mers ne te sont-elles pas inconnues ?

Su dimensión es más larga que la tierra, y más ancha que la mar.

The measure thereof is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.

Its measure is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.

S'il plaît au Seigneur de bouleverser toutes ces choses, qui lui dira : Qu'avez-vous fait ?

Si cortare, ó encerrare, ó juntare, ¿quién podrá contrarrestarle?

If he cut off, and shut up, or gather together, then who can hinder him?

If he passes by, or confines, or convenes a court, then who can oppose him?

Seul il connaît les œuvres des déréglés ; s'il voit des choses vaines, il ne tiendra point de n'en rien savoir.

Porque él conoce á los hombres vanos: ve asimismo la iniquidad, ¿y no hará caso?

For he knoweth vain men: he seeth wickedness also; will he not then consider it?

For he knows false men. He sees iniquity also, even though he doesn’t consider it.

L'homme nage au hasard s'il n'a d'autres guides que des raisonnements ; le mortel né de la femme est isolé comme l'âne sauvage.

El hombre vano se hará entendido, aunque nazca como el pollino del asno montés.

For vain man would be wise, though man be born like a wild ass’s colt.

An empty-headed man becomes wise when a man is born as a wild donkey’s colt.

Si tu as purifié ton cœur, élève tes mains vers Dieu.

Si tú apercibieres tu corazón, y extendieres á él tus manos;

If thou prepare thine heart, and stretch out thine hands toward him;

“If you set your heart aright, stretch out your hands toward him.

Si tes mains sont chargées de quelque iniquité, hâte-toi de la rejeter au loin ; elle ne doit point passer la nuit dans ta demeure.

Si alguna iniquidad hubiere en tu mano, y la echares de ti, y no consintieres que more maldad en tus habitaciones;

If iniquity be in thine hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in thy tabernacles.

If iniquity is in your hand, put it far away. Don’t let unrighteousness dwell in your tents.

Alors ton visage brillera comme une onde pure ; tu ôteras tes vêtements sordides, et tu n'éprouveras plus de crainte.

Entonces levantarás tu rostro limpio de mancha, y serás fuerte y no temerás:

For then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot; yea, thou shalt be stedfast, and shalt not fear:

Surely then you will lift up your face without spot. Yes, you will be steadfast, and will not fear,

Tu oublieras tes souffrances ; elles auront passé comme une vapeur, et ta raison sera raffermie.

Y olvidarás tu trabajo, ó te acordarás de él como de aguas que pasaron:

Because thou shalt forget thy misery, and remember it as waters that pass away:

for you will forget your misery. You will remember it like waters that have passed away.

Ta prière ressemblera à l'étoile qui annonce l'aurore ; ta vie se lèvera au Midi.

Y en mitad de la siesta se levantará bonanza; resplandecerás, y serás como la mañana:

And thine age shall be clearer than the noonday; thou shalt shine forth, thou shalt be as the morning.

Life will be clearer than the noonday. Though there is darkness, it will be as the morning.

Tu seras plein de confiance, parce que l'espérance ne t'aura pas abandonné ; de tes soucis, de tes peines naîtra la paix.

Y confiarás, que habrá esperanza; y cavarás, y dormirás seguro:

And thou shalt be secure, because there is hope; yea, thou shalt dig about thee, and thou shalt take thy rest in safety.

You will be secure, because there is hope. Yes, you will search, and will take your rest in safety.

Tu jouiras du repos et n'auras plus d'ennemis ; la foule inconstante des hommes te reviendra.

Y te acostarás, y no habrá quien te espante: y muchos te rogarán.

Also thou shalt lie down, and none shall make thee afraid; yea, many shall make suit unto thee.

Also you will lie down, and no one will make you afraid. Yes, many will court your favor.

Cependant le salut délaissera les impies ; leur espoir sera leur perte, et leurs yeux fondront en larmes.

Mas los ojos de los malos se consumirán, y no tendrán refugio; y su esperanza será agonía del alma.

But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall not escape, and their hope shall be as the giving up of the ghost.

But the eyes of the wicked will fail. They will have no way to flee. Their hope will be the giving up of the spirit.”
