Zofar de Namat responde a Job:
Y RESPONDIÓ Sophar Naamathita, y dijo:
Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,
Then Zophar, the Naamathite, answered,
«¿No ha de haber quien corte este torrente de palabras? La palabrería de un hombre, ¿prueba que tiene razón?
¿Las muchas palabras no han de tener respuesta? ¿y el hombre parlero será justificado?
Should not the multitude of words be answered? and should a man full of talk be justified?
“Shouldn’t the multitude of words be answered? Should a man full of talk be justified?
¿He de quedarme callado ante tus alardes? ¿Te burlarás sin que nadie te responda?
¿Harán tus falacias callar á los hombres? ¿y harás escarnio, y no habrá quien te avergüence?
Should thy lies make men hold their peace? and when thou mockest, shall no man make thee ashamed?
Should your boastings make men hold their peace? When you mock, will no man make you ashamed?
¡Pretendes ser puro a los ojos de Dios!
Tú dices: Mi conversar es puro, y yo soy limpio delante de tus ojos.
For thou hast said, My doctrine is pure, and I am clean in thine eyes.
For you say, ‘My doctrine is pure. I am clean in your eyes.’
¡Cómo me gustaría que Dios hablara y te dijera lo que piensa!
Mas ¡oh quién diera que Dios hablara, y abriera sus labios contigo,
But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against thee;
But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against you,
¡Que te mostrara tal cual eres; pues él conoce todo lo que has hecho! Escucha: Dios sin duda te está castigando mucho menos de lo que mereces.
Y que te declarara los arcanos de la sabiduría, que son de doble valor que la hacienda! Conocerías entonces que Dios te ha castigado menos que tu iniquidad merece.
And that he would shew thee the secrets of wisdom, that they are double to that which is! Know therefore that God exacteth of thee less than thine iniquity deserveth.
that he would show you the secrets of wisdom! For true wisdom has two sides. Know therefore that God exacts of you less than your iniquity deserves.
»¿Conoces los pensamientos y propósitos de Dios? El mucho investigar, ¿te los revelará? ¿Estás capacitado para juzgar al Todopoderoso?
¿Alcanzarás tú el rastro de Dios? ¿llegarás tú á la perfección del Todopoderoso?
Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection?
“Can you fathom the mystery of God? Or can you probe the limits of the Almighty?
Él es tan perfecto como alto es el cielo; y tú, ¿quién eres? Insondable es su pensamiento; ¿qué podrás tú saber en comparación con él?
Es más alto que los cielos: ¿qué harás? Es más profundo que el infierno: ¿cómo lo conocerás?
It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know?
They are high as heaven. What can you do? They are deeper than Sheol. What can you know?
Es más amplio que la tierra y más extenso que el mar.
Su dimensión es más larga que la tierra, y más ancha que la mar.
The measure thereof is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.
Its measure is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.
Si viene y te pone en un calabozo, y luego te llama a cuentas, ¿quién lo hará desistir?
Si cortare, ó encerrare, ó juntare, ¿quién podrá contrarrestarle?
If he cut off, and shut up, or gather together, then who can hinder him?
If he passes by, or confines, or convenes a court, then who can oppose him?
Porque él conoce a fondo todas las faltas y pecados de la humanidad; sin escrutar, ve todos los pecados.
Porque él conoce á los hombres vanos: ve asimismo la iniquidad, ¿y no hará caso?
For he knoweth vain men: he seeth wickedness also; will he not then consider it?
For he knows false men. He sees iniquity also, even though he doesn’t consider it.
El simple hombre tiene tantas probabilidades de ser sabio, como un borriquillo de nacer en forma de hombre.
El hombre vano se hará entendido, aunque nazca como el pollino del asno montés.
For vain man would be wise, though man be born like a wild ass’s colt.
An empty-headed man becomes wise when a man is born as a wild donkey’s colt.
»Antes de enfrentarte a Dios y extender hacia él tus manos, deja tus pecados y despójate de toda iniquidad.
Si tú apercibieres tu corazón, y extendieres á él tus manos;
If thou prepare thine heart, and stretch out thine hands toward him;
“If you set your heart aright, stretch out your hands toward him.
—
Si alguna iniquidad hubiere en tu mano, y la echares de ti, y no consintieres que more maldad en tus habitaciones;
If iniquity be in thine hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in thy tabernacles.
If iniquity is in your hand, put it far away. Don’t let unrighteousness dwell in your tents.
Sólo entonces, sin manchas de pecado que te ensucien, podrás marchar derecho hacia Dios sin temor.
Entonces levantarás tu rostro limpio de mancha, y serás fuerte y no temerás:
For then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot; yea, thou shalt be stedfast, and shalt not fear:
Surely then you will lift up your face without spot. Yes, you will be steadfast, and will not fear,
Sólo entonces podrás olvidar tu desdicha. Todo eso quedará en el pasado.
Y olvidarás tu trabajo, ó te acordarás de él como de aguas que pasaron:
Because thou shalt forget thy misery, and remember it as waters that pass away:
for you will forget your misery. You will remember it like waters that have passed away.
Y no habrá nubarrones en tu vida; toda oscuridad se transformará en luminosa mañana.
Y en mitad de la siesta se levantará bonanza; resplandecerás, y serás como la mañana:
And thine age shall be clearer than the noonday; thou shalt shine forth, thou shalt be as the morning.
Life will be clearer than the noonday. Though there is darkness, it will be as the morning.
Obtendrás valentía porque tendrás esperanza. Procederás con calma y reposarás seguro.
Y confiarás, que habrá esperanza; y cavarás, y dormirás seguro:
And thou shalt be secure, because there is hope; yea, thou shalt dig about thee, and thou shalt take thy rest in safety.
You will be secure, because there is hope. Yes, you will search, and will take your rest in safety.
Te acostarás sin temor y muchos buscarán tu ayuda.
Y te acostarás, y no habrá quien te espante: y muchos te rogarán.
Also thou shalt lie down, and none shall make thee afraid; yea, many shall make suit unto thee.
Also you will lie down, and no one will make you afraid. Yes, many will court your favor.
Pero los malvados no hallarán escapatoria: su única esperanza está en la muerte».
Mas los ojos de los malos se consumirán, y no tendrán refugio; y su esperanza será agonía del alma.
But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall not escape, and their hope shall be as the giving up of the ghost.
But the eyes of the wicked will fail. They will have no way to flee. Their hope will be the giving up of the spirit.”
