Aquí Sofar de Naamat, tomando la palabra dijo:
Y RESPONDIÓ Sophar Naamathita, y dijo:
Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,
Then Zophar, the Naamathite, answered,
Pues qué, ¿el que mucho habla, no escuchará también? ¿O bastará al hombre ser gran hablador para justificarse?
¿Las muchas palabras no han de tener respuesta? ¿y el hombre parlero será justificado?
Should not the multitude of words be answered? and should a man full of talk be justified?
“Shouldn’t the multitude of words be answered? Should a man full of talk be justified?
¿Por ti solo habrán de callar los demás hombres? ¿Y después de haberte mofado de los otros no habrá nadie que te confunda?
¿Harán tus falacias callar á los hombres? ¿y harás escarnio, y no habrá quien te avergüence?
Should thy lies make men hold their peace? and when thou mockest, shall no man make thee ashamed?
Should your boastings make men hold their peace? When you mock, will no man make you ashamed?
Lo cierto es que tú has dicho a Dios: Mi doctrina, o la vida que llevo, es pura, y yo estoy limpio en tu presencia.
Tú dices: Mi conversar es puro, y yo soy limpio delante de tus ojos.
For thou hast said, My doctrine is pure, and I am clean in thine eyes.
For you say, ‘My doctrine is pure. I am clean in your eyes.’
Mas ojalá Dios se dignase responderte y abrir sus labios para hablar contigo,
Mas ¡oh quién diera que Dios hablara, y abriera sus labios contigo,
But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against thee;
But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against you,
y te hiciese ver los secretos de su sabiduría y la multiplicidad de sus leyes; con lo que conocerías que te castiga menos de lo que tu maldad merece.
Y que te declarara los arcanos de la sabiduría, que son de doble valor que la hacienda! Conocerías entonces que Dios te ha castigado menos que tu iniquidad merece.
And that he would shew thee the secrets of wisdom, that they are double to that which is! Know therefore that God exacteth of thee less than thine iniquity deserveth.
that he would show you the secrets of wisdom! For true wisdom has two sides. Know therefore that God exacts of you less than your iniquity deserves.
¿Acaso puedes tú comprender los caminos de Dios, o entender al Todopoderoso hasta lo sumo de su perfección?
¿Alcanzarás tú el rastro de Dios? ¿llegarás tú á la perfección del Todopoderoso?
Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection?
“Can you fathom the mystery of God? Or can you probe the limits of the Almighty?
Es más alto que los cielos: ¿qué harás pues? Es más profundo que los infiernos: ¿cómo has de poder conocerlo?
Es más alto que los cielos: ¿qué harás? Es más profundo que el infierno: ¿cómo lo conocerás?
It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know?
They are high as heaven. What can you do? They are deeper than Sheol. What can you know?
Su dimensión es más larga que la tierra, y más ancha que el mar.

The measure thereof is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.
Its measure is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.
Si trastornare todas las cosas, o las amontonare en un lugar, ¿quién podrá oponérsele?
Si cortare, ó encerrare, ó juntare, ¿quién podrá contrarrestarle?
If he cut off, and shut up, or gather together, then who can hinder him?
If he passes by, or confines, or convenes a court, then who can oppose him?
El conoce la vanidad o iniquidad de los hombres; y viendo sus maldades, ¿ha de pasarlas por alto sin castigarlas?
Porque él conoce á los hombres vanos: ve asimismo la iniquidad, ¿y no hará caso?
For he knoweth vain men: he seeth wickedness also; will he not then consider it?
For he knows false men. He sees iniquity also, even though he doesn’t consider it.
El hombre necio se engríe con altanería, y se cree nacido para no tener freno, como el pollino del asno montés.
El hombre vano se hará entendido, aunque nazca como el pollino del asno montés.
For vain man would be wise, though man be born like a wild ass’s colt.
An empty-headed man becomes wise when a man is born as a wild donkey’s colt.
Yo veo que tú has endurecido tu corazón, y levantas, osado, hacia el Señor tus manos.
Si tú apercibieres tu corazón, y extendieres á él tus manos;
If thou prepare thine heart, and stretch out thine hands toward him;
“If you set your heart aright, stretch out your hands toward him.
Si arrojares de ti la iniquidad que hay en tus obras, y no consintieres que more en tu casa la injusticia,
Si alguna iniquidad hubiere en tu mano, y la echares de ti, y no consintieres que more maldad en tus habitaciones;
If iniquity be in thine hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in thy tabernacles.
If iniquity is in your hand, put it far away. Don’t let unrighteousness dwell in your tents.
entonces sí que podrás, limpio de toda mácula, alzar tu rostro a Dios, y con su auxilio permanecer firme y sin temor alguno;
Entonces levantarás tu rostro limpio de mancha, y serás fuerte y no temerás:
For then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot; yea, thou shalt be stedfast, and shalt not fear:
Surely then you will lift up your face without spot. Yes, you will be steadfast, and will not fear,
y aun te olvidarás de tus trabajos, o sólo te acordarás de ellos como de un torrente de aguas que ya pasó.
Y olvidarás tu trabajo, ó te acordarás de él como de aguas que pasaron:
Because thou shalt forget thy misery, and remember it as waters that pass away:
for you will forget your misery. You will remember it like waters that have passed away.
Y en la tarde amanecerá para ti una luz como de medio día; y cuando te creerás consumido, renacerás brillante como la estrella de la mañana.
Y en mitad de la siesta se levantará bonanza; resplandecerás, y serás como la mañana:
And thine age shall be clearer than the noonday; thou shalt shine forth, thou shalt be as the morning.
Life will be clearer than the noonday. Though there is darkness, it will be as the morning.
La esperanza que se te propondrá de la vida eterna, te llenará de confianza; y dormirás en plena seguridad estando rodeado como de un profundo foso.
Y confiarás, que habrá esperanza; y cavarás, y dormirás seguro:
And thou shalt be secure, because there is hope; yea, thou shalt dig about thee, and thou shalt take thy rest in safety.
You will be secure, because there is hope. Yes, you will search, and will take your rest in safety.
Reposarás, y no habrá quien te amedrente; y muchísimos poderosos acudirán a ti con súplicas.
Y te acostarás, y no habrá quien te espante: y muchos te rogarán.
Also thou shalt lie down, and none shall make thee afraid; yea, many shall make suit unto thee.
Also you will lie down, and no one will make you afraid. Yes, many will court your favor.
Mas los ojos de los impíos se secarán de envidia; y no habrá guarida para ellos; y sus mismas esperanzas causarán abominación y tormento a su alma.
Mas los ojos de los malos se consumirán, y no tendrán refugio; y su esperanza será agonía del alma.
But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall not escape, and their hope shall be as the giving up of the ghost.
But the eyes of the wicked will fail. They will have no way to flee. Their hope will be the giving up of the spirit.”
