1Entonces Zofar, el naamatita, comenzó a hablar y dijo:
2“¿Acaso no hay que responder a tantas palabras? ¿O se demuestra que una persona tiene razón por hablar mucho?
3¿Debería todo tu parloteo obligar a la gente a callarse? Cuando te burlas, ¿no debería alguien hacerte sentir avergonzado?
4Tú has dicho: ‘Lo que enseño es la pura verdad’, y ‘a los ojos de Dios estoy limpio’.
5Si tan solo Dios hablara y te lo dijera directamente,
6porque entonces te explicaría los secretos de la sabiduría. La verdadera sabiduría tiene muchas caras. El trato de Dios hacia ti es mucho mejor de lo que merece tu culpa.
7“¿Puedes descubrir los misterios de Dios? ¿Puedes descubrir toda la sabiduría del Todopoderoso?
8Es más grande que los cielos, ¿qué puedes hacer? Es más profundo que el Seol, ¿qué puedes saber?
9Se extiende más allá de la tierra y es más ancho que el mar.
10Si Dios viene y encarcela a alguien, o reúne al tribunal para juzgarlo, ¿quién puede detenerlo?
11Porque Dios sabe quiénes son los que engañan: cuando ve que alguien peca, él pone su atención en él.
12Los tontos se volverán sabios cuando los asnos salvajes nazcan mansos!
13“Pero si te arrepientes y extiende tus manos para rezarle,
14si te deshaces de tus pecados y no dejas que la maldad continúe en tu vida,
15entonces serás capaz de mantener la cabeza alta en la inocencia, estarás firme y sin miedo.
16Olvidarás tu miseria, recordándola sólo como agua bajo el puente.
17Tu vida brillará más que el sol del mediodía; incluso la oscuridad será como la mañana.
18Tendrás confianza porque hay esperanza; estarás protegido y descansarás confiado.
19Te acostarás a dormir sin que nadie te asuste, y muchos vendrán a pedir tu favor.
20Pero los ojos de los malvados fallarán, no podrán escapar, y su única esperanza es la muerte”.

1Y RESPONDIÓ Sophar Naamathita, y dijo:
2¿Las muchas palabras no han de tener respuesta? ¿y el hombre parlero será justificado?
3¿Harán tus falacias callar á los hombres? ¿y harás escarnio, y no habrá quien te avergüence?
4Tú dices: Mi conversar es puro, y yo soy limpio delante de tus ojos.
5Mas ¡oh quién diera que Dios hablara, y abriera sus labios contigo,
6Y que te declarara los arcanos de la sabiduría, que son de doble valor que la hacienda! Conocerías entonces que Dios te ha castigado menos que tu iniquidad merece.
7¿Alcanzarás tú el rastro de Dios? ¿llegarás tú á la perfección del Todopoderoso?
8Es más alto que los cielos: ¿qué harás? Es más profundo que el infierno: ¿cómo lo conocerás?
9Su dimensión es más larga que la tierra, y más ancha que la mar.
10Si cortare, ó encerrare, ó juntare, ¿quién podrá contrarrestarle?
11Porque él conoce á los hombres vanos: ve asimismo la iniquidad, ¿y no hará caso?
12El hombre vano se hará entendido, aunque nazca como el pollino del asno montés.
13Si tú apercibieres tu corazón, y extendieres á él tus manos;
14Si alguna iniquidad hubiere en tu mano, y la echares de ti, y no consintieres que more maldad en tus habitaciones;
15Entonces levantarás tu rostro limpio de mancha, y serás fuerte y no temerás:
16Y olvidarás tu trabajo, ó te acordarás de él como de aguas que pasaron:
17Y en mitad de la siesta se levantará bonanza; resplandecerás, y serás como la mañana:
18Y confiarás, que habrá esperanza; y cavarás, y dormirás seguro:
19Y te acostarás, y no habrá quien te espante: y muchos te rogarán.
20Mas los ojos de los malos se consumirán, y no tendrán refugio; y su esperanza será agonía del alma.
King James Version
1Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,
2Should not the multitude of words be answered? and should a man full of talk be justified?
3Should thy lies make men hold their peace? and when thou mockest, shall no man make thee ashamed?
4For thou hast said, My doctrine is pure, and I am clean in thine eyes.
5But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against thee;
6And that he would shew thee the secrets of wisdom, that they are double to that which is! Know therefore that God exacteth of thee less than thine iniquity deserveth.
7Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection?
8It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know?
9The measure thereof is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.
10If he cut off, and shut up, or gather together, then who can hinder him?
11For he knoweth vain men: he seeth wickedness also; will he not then consider it?
12For vain man would be wise, though man be born like a wild ass’s colt.
13If thou prepare thine heart, and stretch out thine hands toward him;
14If iniquity be in thine hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in thy tabernacles.
15For then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot; yea, thou shalt be stedfast, and shalt not fear:
16Because thou shalt forget thy misery, and remember it as waters that pass away:
17And thine age shall be clearer than the noonday; thou shalt shine forth, thou shalt be as the morning.
18And thou shalt be secure, because there is hope; yea, thou shalt dig about thee, and thou shalt take thy rest in safety.
19Also thou shalt lie down, and none shall make thee afraid; yea, many shall make suit unto thee.
20But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall not escape, and their hope shall be as the giving up of the ghost.
World English Bible
1Then Zophar, the Naamathite, answered,
2“Shouldn’t the multitude of words be answered? Should a man full of talk be justified?
3Should your boastings make men hold their peace? When you mock, will no man make you ashamed?
4For you say, ‘My doctrine is pure. I am clean in your eyes.’
5But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against you,
6that he would show you the secrets of wisdom! For true wisdom has two sides. Know therefore that God exacts of you less than your iniquity deserves.
7“Can you fathom the mystery of God? Or can you probe the limits of the Almighty?
8They are high as heaven. What can you do? They are deeper than Sheol. What can you know?
9Its measure is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.
10If he passes by, or confines, or convenes a court, then who can oppose him?
11For he knows false men. He sees iniquity also, even though he doesn’t consider it.
12An empty-headed man becomes wise when a man is born as a wild donkey’s colt.
13“If you set your heart aright, stretch out your hands toward him.
14If iniquity is in your hand, put it far away. Don’t let unrighteousness dwell in your tents.
15Surely then you will lift up your face without spot. Yes, you will be steadfast, and will not fear,
16for you will forget your misery. You will remember it like waters that have passed away.
17Life will be clearer than the noonday. Though there is darkness, it will be as the morning.
18You will be secure, because there is hope. Yes, you will search, and will take your rest in safety.
19Also you will lie down, and no one will make you afraid. Yes, many will court your favor.
20But the eyes of the wicked will fail. They will have no way to flee. Their hope will be the giving up of the spirit.”
