¿«Harán acepción de personas»* a su favor? ¿Contenderán ustedes por Dios?

¿Sería bueno que él los escudriñase inquiriese, analizares? ¿Se burlaran de él como quien se burla de algún hombre?

Is it good that he should search you out? or as one man mocketh another, do ye so mock him?

El les reprochará de seguro, Si solapadamente «hacen acepción de personas.»

He will surely reprove you, if ye do secretly accept persons.

De cierto su alteza les habría de espantar, Y su pavor habría de caer sobre ustedes.

Shall not his excellency make you afraid? and his dread fall upon you?

Sus de ustedes máximas son refranes de ceniza, Y sus de ustedes baluartes son baluartes de lodo.
Vuestras memorias serán comparadas á la ceniza, y vuestros cuerpos como cuerpos de lodo.
Your remembrances are like unto ashes, your bodies to bodies of clay.
Your memorable sayings are proverbs of ashes. Your defenses are defenses of clay.
Escúchenme, y hablaré yo, Y que me venga después lo que viniere.

Hear diligently my speech, and my declaration with your ears.

He aquí ahora, si yo expusiere mi causa, Sé que seré justificado.

Behold now, I have ordered my cause; I know that I shall be justified.
See now, I have set my cause in order. I know that I am righteous.
¿Quién es el que contenderá conmigo? Porque si ahora yo callara, moriría.

Who is he that will plead with me? for now, if I hold my tongue, I shall give up the ghost.
Who is he who will contend with me? For then I would hold my peace and give up the spirit.

Y mi cuerpo se va gastando como de carcoma, Como vestido que roe la polilla.

And he, as a rotten thing, consumeth, as a garment that is moth eaten.
