EL HOMBRE nacido de mujer, corto de días, y harto de sinsabores:
Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble.

Und du tust deine Augen uber solchem auf, daß du mich vor dir in das Gericht ziehest.
¿Y sobre éste abres tus ojos, y me traes á juicio contigo?

Wer will einen Reinen finden bei denen, da keiner rein ist?

Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with thee, thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass;

Tue dich von ihm, daß er Ruhe habe, bis daß seine Zeit komme, deren er wie ein Taglohner wartet.

grünet er doch wieder vom Geruch des Wassers und wachst daher, als ware er gepflanzet.

Wie ein Wasser auslauft aus dem See und wie ein Strom versieget und vertrocknet,
Las aguas de la mar se fueron, y agotóse el río, secóse.

so ist ein Mensch, wenn er sich legt, und wird nicht aufstehen und wird nicht aufwachen, solange der Himmel bleibt, noch von seinem Schlaf erweckt werden.
Así el hombre yace, y no se tornará á levantar: hasta que no haya cielo no despertarán, ni se levantarán de su sueño.
So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.

¡Oh quién me diera que me escondieses en el sepulcro, que me encubrieras hasta apaciguarse tu ira, que me pusieses plazo, y de mí te acordaras!
O that thou wouldest hide me in the grave, that thou wouldest keep me secret, until thy wrath be past, that thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me!

Meinest du, ein toter Mensch werde wieder leben? Ich harre taglich; dieweil ich streite, bis daß meine Veranderung komme,
Si el hombre muriere, ¿volverá á vivir? Todos los días de mi edad esperaré, hasta que venga mi mutación.
If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.
If a man dies, will he live again? I would wait all the days of my warfare, until my release should come.
daß du wollest mir rufen, und ich dirantworten, und wollest das Werk deiner Hande nicht ausschlagen.
Aficionado á la obra de tus manos, llamarás, y yo te responderé.
Thou shalt call, and I will answer thee: thou wilt have a desire to the work of thine hands.
You would call, and I would answer you. You would have a desire for the work of your hands.
Denn du hast schon meine Gange gezahlet; aber du wollest ja nicht achthaben auf meine Sunde.
Pues ahora me cuentas los pasos, y no das tregua á mi pecado.
For now thou numberest my steps: dost thou not watch over my sin?

Du hast meine Ubertretung ineinem Bundlein versiegelt und meine Missetat zusammengefasset.
Tienes sellada en saco mi prevaricación, y coacervas mi iniquidad.
My transgression is sealed up in a bag, and thou sewest up mine iniquity.
My disobedience is sealed up in a bag. You fasten up my iniquity.
Zerfallt doch ein Berg und vergehet, und ein Fels wird von seinem Ort versetzt.
Y ciertamente el monte que cae se deshace, y las peñas son traspasadas de su lugar;
And surely the mountain falling cometh to nought, and the rock is removed out of his place.

Wasser waschet Steine weg, und die Tropfen floften die Erde weg; aber des Menschen Hoffnung ist verloren.
Las piedras son desgastadas con el agua impetuosa, que se lleva el polvo de la tierra: de tal manera haces tú perecer la esperanza del hombre.
The waters wear the stones: thou washest away the things which grow out of the dust of the earth; and thou destroyest the hope of man.

Denn du stoftest ihn gar urn, daß er dahinfahret, veranderst sein Wesen und lassest ihn fahren.
Para siempre serás más fuerte que él, y él se va; demudarás su rostro, y enviaráslo.
Thou prevailest for ever against him, and he passeth: thou changest his countenance, and sendest him away.
You forever prevail against him, and he departs. You change his face, and send him away.
Sind seine Kinder in Ehren, das weift er nicht; Oder ob sie geringe sind, des wird er nicht gewahr.
Sus hijos serán honrados, y él no lo sabrá; ó serán humillados, y no entenderá de ellos.
His sons come to honour, and he knoweth it not; and they are brought low, but he perceiveth it not of them.

Weil er das Fleisch an sich tragt, muft er Schmerzen haben, und weil seine Seele noch bei ihm ist, muft er Leid tragen.
Mas su carne sobre él se dolerá, y entristecerse ha en él su alma.
