EL HOMBRE nacido de mujer, corto de días, y harto de sinsabores:
Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble.
“Man, who is born of a woman, is of few days, and full of trouble.
Comme une fleur, il éclot, et on le coupe ; il fuit comme une ombre, et ne subsiste point.
Que sale como una flor y es cortado; y huye como la sombra, y no permanece.
He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down: he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.
He grows up like a flower, and is cut down. He also flees like a shadow, and doesn’t continue.
Et c’est sur cet être que tu ouvres les yeux, et c’est moi que tu conduis en justice avec toi !
¿Y sobre éste abres tus ojos, y me traes á juicio contigo?
And dost thou open thine eyes upon such an one, and bringest me into judgment with thee?
Do you open your eyes on such a one, and bring me into judgment with you?
Qui peut tirer la pureté de la souillure ? Personne.
¿Quién hará limpio de inmundo? Nadie.

Si ses jours sont déterminés, si le nombre de ses mois est fixé par-devers toi, si tu lui as prescrit des limites qu’il ne passera pas,
Ciertamente sus días están determinados, y el número de sus meses está cerca de ti: tú le pusiste términos, de los cuales no pasará.
Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with thee, thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass;
Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months is with you, and you have appointed his bounds that he can’t pass.
Détourne tes regards de lui, et qu’il ait quelque repos, jusqu’à ce qu’il goûte, comme un mercenaire, la fin de sa journée.
Si tú lo dejares, él dejará de ser: entre tanto deseará, como el jornalero, su día.
Turn from him, that he may rest, till he shall accomplish, as an hireling, his day.
Look away from him, that he may rest, until he accomplishes, as a hireling, his day.
Car il y a de l’espérance pour l’arbre, si on l’a coupé ; il reverdit encore, et il ne cesse pas d’avoir des rejetons ;
Porque si el árbol fuere cortado, aun queda de él esperanza; retoñecerá aún, y sus renuevos no faltarán.
For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.

Si sa racine vieillit dans la terre, et si dans la poussière son tronc est mort,
Si se envejeciere en la tierra su raíz, y su tronco fuere muerto en el polvo,
Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground;
Though its root grows old in the earth, and its stock dies in the ground,
Dès qu’il sent l’eau, il pousse de nouveau, et il produit des branches comme un jeune plant.
Al percibir el agua reverdecerá, y hará copa como planta.
Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.

Mais quand l’homme meurt, il reste gisant ; quand l’homme a expiré, où est-il ?
Mas el hombre morirá, y será cortado; y perecerá el hombre, ¿y dónde estará él?
But man dieth, and wasteth away: yea, man giveth up the ghost, and where is he?
But man dies, and is laid low. Yes, man gives up the spirit, and where is he?
Les eaux de la mer s’écoulent, le fleuve tarit et se dessèche,
Las aguas de la mar se fueron, y agotóse el río, secóse.
As the waters fail from the sea, and the flood decayeth and drieth up:
As the waters fail from the sea, and the river wastes and dries up,
Ainsi l’homme se couche, et il ne se relève point. Tant qu’il y aura des cieux, ils ne se réveilleront point, et on ne les fera pas sortir de leur sommeil.
Así el hombre yace, y no se tornará á levantar: hasta que no haya cielo no despertarán, ni se levantarán de su sueño.
So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.
so man lies down and doesn’t rise. Until the heavens are no more, they will not awake, nor be roused out of their sleep.
Oh ! si tu me cachais dans le Sépulcre, si tu me mettais à couvert, jusqu’à ce que ta colère fût passée ! Si tu me donnais un terme, après lequel tu te souviendrais de moi
¡Oh quién me diera que me escondieses en el sepulcro, que me encubrieras hasta apaciguarse tu ira, que me pusieses plazo, y de mí te acordaras!
O that thou wouldest hide me in the grave, that thou wouldest keep me secret, until thy wrath be past, that thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me!
“Oh that you would hide me in Sheol, that you would keep me secret until your wrath is past, that you would appoint me a set time and remember me!
(Si l’homme meurt, revivra-t-il ? ), tout le temps de ma consigne, j’attendrais, jusqu’à ce que vînt mon remplacement !
Si el hombre muriere, ¿volverá á vivir? Todos los días de mi edad esperaré, hasta que venga mi mutación.
If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.
If a man dies, will he live again? I would wait all the days of my warfare, until my release should come.
Tu appellerais, et je répondrais ; tu désirerais de revoir l’ouvrage de tes mains.
Aficionado á la obra de tus manos, llamarás, y yo te responderé.
Thou shalt call, and I will answer thee: thou wilt have a desire to the work of thine hands.
You would call, and I would answer you. You would have a desire for the work of your hands.
Mais, maintenant, tu comptes mes pas, et tu observes tous mes péchés.
Pues ahora me cuentas los pasos, y no das tregua á mi pecado.
For now thou numberest my steps: dost thou not watch over my sin?
But now you count my steps. Don’t you watch over my sin?
Ma transgression est scellée dans le sac, et tu as ajouté à mon iniquité.
Tienes sellada en saco mi prevaricación, y coacervas mi iniquidad.
My transgression is sealed up in a bag, and thou sewest up mine iniquity.
My disobedience is sealed up in a bag. You fasten up my iniquity.
Mais la montagne s’éboule ; le rocher est transporté hors de sa place ;
Y ciertamente el monte que cae se deshace, y las peñas son traspasadas de su lugar;
And surely the mountain falling cometh to nought, and the rock is removed out of his place.
“But the mountain falling comes to nothing. The rock is removed out of its place.
Les eaux minent les pierres ; les inondations entraînent la poussière de la terre : ainsi fais-tu périr l’espérance du mortel.
Las piedras son desgastadas con el agua impetuosa, que se lleva el polvo de la tierra: de tal manera haces tú perecer la esperanza del hombre.
The waters wear the stones: thou washest away the things which grow out of the dust of the earth; and thou destroyest the hope of man.
The waters wear the stones. The torrents of it wash away the dust of the earth. So you destroy the hope of man.
Tu ne cesses de l’assaillir, et il s’en va ; tu changes son aspect, et tu le renvoies.
Para siempre serás más fuerte que él, y él se va; demudarás su rostro, y enviaráslo.
Thou prevailest for ever against him, and he passeth: thou changest his countenance, and sendest him away.
You forever prevail against him, and he departs. You change his face, and send him away.
Que ses fils soient honorés, il n’en saura rien ; qu’ils soient méprisés, il ne le verra pas.
Sus hijos serán honrados, y él no lo sabrá; ó serán humillados, y no entenderá de ellos.
His sons come to honour, and he knoweth it not; and they are brought low, but he perceiveth it not of them.
His sons come to honor, and he doesn’t know it. They are brought low, but he doesn’t perceive it of them.
C’est sur lui seul que sa chair s’afflige, et sur lui que son âme gémit.
Mas su carne sobre él se dolerá, y entristecerse ha en él su alma.
But his flesh upon him shall have pain, and his soul within him shall mourn.
But his flesh on him has pain, and his soul within him mourns.”
