EL HOMBRE nacido de mujer, corto de días, y harto de sinsabores:
Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble.
“Man, who is born of a woman, is of few days, and full of trouble.
Ele nasce e cresce como uma flor, mas logo murcha e morre. Ele some depressa, como a sombra de uma nuvem que passa no céu.
Que sale como una flor y es cortado; y huye como la sombra, y no permanece.
He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down: he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.
He grows up like a flower, and is cut down. He also flees like a shadow, and doesn’t continue.
Como o Senhor pede contas a criaturas tão fracas e sem valor como o homem? E quem sou eu para que seja julgado?
¿Y sobre éste abres tus ojos, y me traes á juicio contigo?
And dost thou open thine eyes upon such an one, and bringest me into judgment with thee?
Do you open your eyes on such a one, and bring me into judgment with you?
Quem pode exigir que o homem, impuro por natureza, aja com justiça? Ninguém!
¿Quién hará limpio de inmundo? Nadie.
Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.

O Senhor mesmo determinou a duração da vida humana; o Senhor decretou o número de seus meses e estabeleceu limites que ele não pode ultrapassar.
Ciertamente sus días están determinados, y el número de sus meses está cerca de ti: tú le pusiste términos, de los cuales no pasará.
Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with thee, thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass;
Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months is with you, and you have appointed his bounds that he can’t pass.
Por isso, pare de vigiar o homem tão de perto! Dê um pouco de descanso ao homem, como quando chega ao fim o dia de um trabalhador.
Si tú lo dejares, él dejará de ser: entre tanto deseará, como el jornalero, su día.
Turn from him, that he may rest, till he shall accomplish, as an hireling, his day.
Look away from him, that he may rest, until he accomplishes, as a hireling, his day.
“Até uma árvore tem esperança; se é cortada, pode voltar a brotar e produzir ramos e folhas.
Porque si el árbol fuere cortado, aun queda de él esperanza; retoñecerá aún, y sus renuevos no faltarán.
For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.
“For there is hope for a tree if it is cut down, that it will sprout again, that the tender branch of it will not cease.
Mesmo quando as raízes envelhecem e o tronco seca,
Si se envejeciere en la tierra su raíz, y su tronco fuere muerto en el polvo,
Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground;
Though its root grows old in the earth, and its stock dies in the ground,
ainda assim, regada pela chuva, ela brotará e dará ramos, como se fosse uma planta nova.
Al percibir el agua reverdecerá, y hará copa como planta.
Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.

Mas o homem, quando morre, não volta a viver. Dá o último suspiro e deixa de existir!
Mas el hombre morirá, y será cortado; y perecerá el hombre, ¿y dónde estará él?
But man dieth, and wasteth away: yea, man giveth up the ghost, and where is he?
But man dies, and is laid low. Yes, man gives up the spirit, and where is he?
Assim como as águas do mar evaporam e o leito do rio desaparece quando há uma seca,
Las aguas de la mar se fueron, y agotóse el río, secóse.
As the waters fail from the sea, and the flood decayeth and drieth up:
As the waters fail from the sea, and the river wastes and dries up,
do mesmo modo, o homem dorme o seu último sono e não acorda; nem mesmo depois de os céus deixarem de existir, o homem será despertado do seu sono.
Así el hombre yace, y no se tornará á levantar: hasta que no haya cielo no despertarán, ni se levantarán de su sueño.
So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.
so man lies down and doesn’t rise. Until the heavens are no more, they will not awake, nor be roused out of their sleep.
Quem dera o Senhor me escondesse entre os mortos até a sua ira passar, e então se lembrasse de mim na hora certa!
¡Oh quién me diera que me escondieses en el sepulcro, que me encubrieras hasta apaciguarse tu ira, que me pusieses plazo, y de mí te acordaras!
O that thou wouldest hide me in the grave, that thou wouldest keep me secret, until thy wrath be past, that thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me!
“Oh that you would hide me in Sheol, that you would keep me secret until your wrath is past, that you would appoint me a set time and remember me!
Quando o homem morre, por acaso tornará a viver? Essa esperança é que me faz suportar os sofrimentos desta vida até chegar o dia de passar para aquela vida melhor.
Si el hombre muriere, ¿volverá á vivir? Todos los días de mi edad esperaré, hasta que venga mi mutación.
If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.
If a man dies, will he live again? I would wait all the days of my warfare, until my release should come.
O Senhor me chamaria e eu responderia; então o Senhor mostraria o seu amor à obra das suas mãos.
Aficionado á la obra de tus manos, llamarás, y yo te responderé.
Thou shalt call, and I will answer thee: thou wilt have a desire to the work of thine hands.
You would call, and I would answer you. You would have a desire for the work of your hands.
O Senhor vigiaria de perto os meus passos, mas não me estaria vigiando quanto ao meu pecado.
Pues ahora me cuentas los pasos, y no das tregua á mi pecado.
For now thou numberest my steps: dost thou not watch over my sin?
But now you count my steps. Don’t you watch over my sin?
Minhas faltas serão fechadas num saco; o Senhor esconderá a minha iniquidade.
Tienes sellada en saco mi prevaricación, y coacervas mi iniquidad.
My transgression is sealed up in a bag, and thou sewest up mine iniquity.
My disobedience is sealed up in a bag. You fasten up my iniquity.
“Como o tempo e o vento destroem grandes montes e mudam a rocha do seu lugar,
Y ciertamente el monte que cae se deshace, y las peñas son traspasadas de su lugar;
And surely the mountain falling cometh to nought, and the rock is removed out of his place.
“But the mountain falling comes to nothing. The rock is removed out of its place.
e assim como a água corrente vai desgastando as pedras e leva as terras das margens dos rios, assim o Senhor destrói as esperanças do homem.
Las piedras son desgastadas con el agua impetuosa, que se lleva el polvo de la tierra: de tal manera haces tú perecer la esperanza del hombre.
The waters wear the stones: thou washest away the things which grow out of the dust of the earth; and thou destroyest the hope of man.
The waters wear the stones. The torrents of it wash away the dust of the earth. So you destroy the hope of man.
A todo instante, luta contra ele, até a morte. Faz o seu rosto mudar, ficar velho e enrugado e finalmente manda o homem para o reino dos mortos.
Para siempre serás más fuerte que él, y él se va; demudarás su rostro, y enviaráslo.
Thou prevailest for ever against him, and he passeth: thou changest his countenance, and sendest him away.
You forever prevail against him, and he departs. You change his face, and send him away.
Seus filhos crescem e são honrados, mas ele nada sabe disso. Por outro lado, se eles caem na desgraça, não ficará sabendo.
Sus hijos serán honrados, y él no lo sabrá; ó serán humillados, y no entenderá de ellos.
His sons come to honour, and he knoweth it not; and they are brought low, but he perceiveth it not of them.
His sons come to honor, and he doesn’t know it. They are brought low, but he doesn’t perceive it of them.
Ele só sente a dor do seu próprio corpo, e chora somente pela sua alma”.
Mas su carne sobre él se dolerá, y entristecerse ha en él su alma.
But his flesh upon him shall have pain, and his soul within him shall mourn.
But his flesh on him has pain, and his soul within him mourns.”
