Y RESPONDIÓ Eliphaz Temanita, y dijo:
Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said,

Un sage répond-il par des paroles en l'air ? Gonfle-t-il sa poitrine de vent,
¿Si proferirá el sabio vana sabiduría, y henchirá su vientre de viento solano?
Should a wise man utter vain knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind?
“Should a wise man answer with vain knowledge, and fill himself with the east wind?
En disputant par des paroles inutiles, Par des mots qui ne lui servent de rien ?
¿Disputará con palabras inútiles, y con razones sin provecho?
Should he reason with unprofitable talk? or with speeches wherewith he can do no good?
Should he reason with unprofitable talk, or with speeches with which he can do no good?
Bien plus, tu anéantis la piété, Tu diminues le respect envers Dieu !
Tú también disipas el temor, y menoscabas la oración delante de Dios.
Yea, thou castest off fear, and restrainest prayer before God.
Yes, you do away with fear, and hinder devotion before God.
Car ton iniquité enseigne ta bouche, Et tu as recours au langage des fourbes.
Porque tu boca declaró tu iniquidad, pues has escogido el hablar de los astutos.
For thy mouth uttereth thine iniquity, and thou choosest the tongue of the crafty.
For your iniquity teaches your mouth, and you choose the language of the crafty.
Ta bouche te condamne et non pas moi, Tes lèvres témoignent contre toi,
Tu boca te condenará, y no yo; y tus labios testificarán contra ti.
Thine own mouth condemneth thee, and not I: yea, thine own lips testify against thee.
Your own mouth condemns you, and not I. Yes, your own lips testify against you.
Es-tu né le premier des hommes ? As-tu été enfanté avant les collines ?
¿Naciste tú primero que Adam? ¿ó fuiste formado antes que los collados?
Art thou the first man that was born? or wast thou made before the hills?
“Are you the first man who was born? Or were you brought out before the hills?
Entends-tu ce qui se dit dans le conseil de Dieu ? Attires-tu à toi la sagesse ?
¿Oíste tú el secreto de Dios, que detienes en ti solo la sabiduría?
Hast thou heard the secret of God? and dost thou restrain wisdom to thyself?
Have you heard the secret counsel of God? Do you limit wisdom to yourself?
Que sais-tu que nous ne sachions pas ? Que comprends-tu, qui ne nous soit familier ?
¿Qué sabes tú que no sepamos? ¿qué entiendes que no se halle en nosotros?
What knowest thou, that we know not? what understandest thou, which is not in us?
What do you know that we don’t know? What do you understand which is not in us?
Parmi nous aussi se trouvent des têtes grises, des vieillards, Plus chargés de jours que ton père.
Entre nosotros también hay cano, también hay viejo mucho mayor en días que tu padre.
With us are both the grayheaded and very aged men, much elder than thy father.

Est-ce trop peu de chose pour toi que les consolations de Dieu, Et que les paroles douces qu'on t'adresse ?
¿En tan poco tienes las consolaciones de Dios? ¿tienes acaso alguna cosa oculta cerca de ti?
Are the consolations of God small with thee? is there any secret thing with thee?
Are the consolations of God too small for you, even the word that is gentle toward you?
Où t'emporte ton cœur ? Que veulent dire ces roulements d'yeux,
¿Por qué te enajena tu corazón, y por qué guiñan tus ojos,
Why doth thine heart carry thee away? and what do thy eyes wink at,
Why does your heart carry you away? Why do your eyes flash,
Que tu tournes ta colère contre Dieu, Et que tu fasses sortir de ta bouche de telles paroles ?
Pues haces frente á Dios con tu espíritu, y sacas tales palabras de tu boca?
That thou turnest thy spirit against God, and lettest such words go out of thy mouth?
that you turn your spirit against God, and let such words go out of your mouth?
Qu'est-ce que l'homme pour qu'il soit pur, Et le fils de la femme, pour qu'il soit juste ?
¿Qué cosa es el hombre para que sea limpio, y que se justifique el nacido de mujer?
What is man, that he should be clean? and he which is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?

Voici, il ne se fie pas à ses saints, Et le ciel n'est pas pur à ses yeux ;
He aquí que en sus santos no confía, y ni los cielos son limpios delante de sus ojos:
Behold, he putteth no trust in his saints; yea, the heavens are not clean in his sight.

Combien moins l'abominable et le pervers, L'homme qui boit l'iniquité comme l'eau !
¿Cuánto menos el hombre abominable y vil, que bebe la iniquidad como agua?
How much more abominable and filthy is man, which drinketh iniquity like water?
how much less one who is abominable and corrupt, a man who drinks iniquity like water!
Je veux t'instruire ; écoute-moi ; Je te rapporterai ce que j'ai vu,
Escúchame; yo te mostraré y te contaré lo que he visto:
I will shew thee, hear me; and that which I have seen I will declare;
“I will show you, listen to me; that which I have seen I will declare
Ce que les sages ont enseigné, Sans rien cacher de ce qui venait de leurs pères.

Tous les jours de sa vie le méchant est dans les tourments, Pendant le nombre d'années réservées à l'impie.

The wicked man travaileth with pain all his days, and the number of years is hidden to the oppressor.

Des sons effrayants frappent ses oreilles ; En pleine paix, le destructeur le surprend.
Estruendos espantosos hay en sus oídos; en la paz le vendrá quien lo asuele.
A dreadful sound is in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer shall come upon him.
A sound of terrors is in his ears. In prosperity the destroyer will come on him.
Il désespère de jamais sortir de l'obscurité, Il se sent guetté par l'épée.
El no creerá que ha de volver de las tinieblas, y está mirando al cuchillo.
He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is waited for of the sword.
He doesn’t believe that he will return out of darkness. He is waited for by the sword.
Il erre à la recherche de son pain : Où le trouver ? Il sait qu'un jour d'obscurité l'attend.
Desasosegado á comer siempre, sabe que le está aparejado día de tinieblas.
He wandereth abroad for bread, saying, Where is it? he knoweth that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.
He wanders abroad for bread, saying, ‘Where is it?’ He knows that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.
L'angoisse et le tourment l'épouvantent, Ils l'assaillent comme un roi prêt à combattre.
Tribulación y angustia le asombrarán, y esforzaránse contra él como un rey apercibido para la batalla.
Trouble and anguish shall make him afraid; they shall prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle.

Car il a étendu la main contre Dieu, Il s'est élevé contre le Puissant,
Por cuanto él extendió su mano contra Dios, y se esforzó contra el Todopoderoso,
For he stretcheth out his hand against God, and strengtheneth himself against the Almighty.
Because he has stretched out his hand against God, and behaves himself proudly against the Almighty,
Il a couru contre lui le cou tendu, Sous le dos épais de ses boucliers ;
El le acometerá en la cerviz, en lo grueso de las hombreras de sus escudos:
He runneth upon him, even on his neck, upon the thick bosses of his bucklers:
he runs at him with a stiff neck, with the thick shields of his bucklers,
Il a le visage couvert de graisse, Les reins chargé d'embonpoint ;
Porque cubrió su rostro con su gordura, é hizo pliegues sobre los ijares;
Because he covereth his face with his fatness, and maketh collops of fat on his flanks.
because he has covered his face with his fatness, and gathered fat on his thighs.
Et il habite des villes détruites, Des maisons où l'on ne doit pas demeurer, Qui sont destinées à devenir des monceaux de pierres.
Y habitó las ciudades asoladas, las casas inhabitadas, que estaban puestas en montones.
And he dwelleth in desolate cities, and in houses which no man inhabiteth, which are ready to become heaps.

Il ne s'enrichira pas, sa fortune ne subsistera pas, Ses gerbes ne s'inclineront pas vers la terre.
No enriquecerá, ni será firme su potencia, ni extenderá por la tierra su hermosura.
He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall he prolong the perfection thereof upon the earth.

Il n'échappera pas aux ténèbres ; La chaleur desséchera ses rejetons, Il disparaîtra par le souffle de sa bouche.

He shall not depart out of darkness; the flame shall dry up his branches, and by the breath of his mouth shall he go away.

Qu'il ne s'appuie pas sur la vanité ; c'est une illusion, Car la vanité sera sa récompense.
No confíe el iluso en la vanidad; porque ella será su recompensa.
Let not him that is deceived trust in vanity: for vanity shall be his recompence.
Let him not trust in emptiness, deceiving himself, for emptiness will be his reward.
Et celle-ci se présentera avant l'heure ; Son rameau ne verdira pas.

Il est comme la vigne dont on arracherait le raisin trop tôt, Comme un olivier dont on ferait tomber les fleurs.

He shall shake off his unripe grape as the vine, and shall cast off his flower as the olive.

En effet, la troupe des impies est stérile ; Le feu dévore les tentes de l'homme vénal.
Porque la sociedad de los hipócritas será asolada, y fuego consumirá las tiendas de soborno.
For the congregation of hypocrites shall be desolate, and fire shall consume the tabernacles of bribery.
For the company of the godless will be barren, and fire will consume the tents of bribery.
Il conçoit le mal, et enfante le néant ; Et son sein n'engendre que déception.
Concibieron dolor, y parieron iniquidad; y las entrañas de ellos meditan engaño.
