I have often heard such things as these: you are all troublesome comforters.
Muchas veces he oído cosas como estas: consoladores molestos sois todos vosotros.
I have heard many such things: miserable comforters are ye all.
“I have heard many such things. You are all miserable comforters!
Shall windy words have no end? or is it any trouble to thee to speak?
¿Tendrán fin las palabras ventosas? ó ¿qué te animará á responder?
Shall vain words have an end? or what emboldeneth thee that thou answerest?
Shall vain words have an end? Or what provokes you that you answer?
I also could speak like you: and would God your soul were for my soul.
También yo hablaría como vosotros. Ojalá vuestra alma estuviera en lugar de la mía, que yo os tendría compañía en las palabras, y sobre vosotros movería mi cabeza.
I also could speak as ye do: if your soul were in my soul’s stead, I could heap up words against you, and shake mine head at you.
I also could speak as you do. If your soul were in my soul’s place, I could join words together against you, and shake my head at you,
I would comfort you also with words, and would wag my head over you.
Mas yo os alentaría con mis palabras, y la consolación de mis labios apaciguaría el dolor vuestro.
But I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the moving of my lips should asswage your grief.
but I would strengthen you with my mouth. The solace of my lips would relieve you.
I would strengthen you with my mouth, and would move my lips, as sparing you.
Si hablo, mi dolor no cesa; y si dejo de hablar, no se aparta de mí.
Though I speak, my grief is not asswaged: and though I forbear, what am I eased?
“Though I speak, my grief is not subsided. Though I forbear, what am I eased?
But what shall I do? If I speak, my pain will not rest: and if I hold my peace, it will not depart from me.
Empero ahora me ha fatigado: has tú asolado toda mi compañía.
But now he hath made me weary: thou hast made desolate all my company.
But now, God, you have surely worn me out. You have made all my company desolate.
But now my sorrow hath oppressed me, and all my limbs are brought to nothing.
Tú me has arrugado; testigo es mi flacura, que se levanta contra mí para testificar en mi rostro.
And thou hast filled me with wrinkles, which is a witness against me: and my leanness rising up in me beareth witness to my face.
You have shriveled me up. This is a witness against me. My leanness rises up against me. It testifies to my face.
My wrinkles bear witness against me, and a false speaker riseth up against my face, contradicting me.
Su furor me destrizó, y me ha sido contrario: crujió sus dientes contra mí; contra mí aguzó sus ojos mi enemigo.
He teareth me in his wrath, who hateth me: he gnasheth upon me with his teeth; mine enemy sharpeneth his eyes upon me.
He has torn me in his wrath and persecuted me. He has gnashed on me with his teeth. My adversary sharpens his eyes on me.
He hath gathered together his fury against me, and threatening me he hath gnashed with his teeth upon me: my enemy hath beheld me with terrible eyes.
Abrieron contra mí su boca; hirieron mis mejillas con afrenta; contra mí se juntaron todos.
They have gaped upon me with their mouth; they have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully; they have gathered themselves together against me.
They have gaped on me with their mouth. They have struck me on the cheek reproachfully. They gather themselves together against me.
They have opened their mouths upon me, and reproaching me they have struck me on the cheek, they are filled with my pains.
Hame entregado Dios al mentiroso, y en las manos de los impíos me hizo estremecer
God hath delivered me to the ungodly, and turned me over into the hands of the wicked.
God delivers me to the ungodly, and casts me into the hands of the wicked.
God hath shut me up with the unjust man, and hath delivered me into the hands of the wicked.
Próspero estaba, y desmenuzóme: y arrebatóme por la cerviz, y despedazóme, y púsome por blanco suyo.
I was at ease, but he hath broken me asunder: he hath also taken me by my neck, and shaken me to pieces, and set me up for his mark.
I was at ease, and he broke me apart. Yes, he has taken me by the neck, and dashed me to pieces. He has also set me up for his target.
I that was formerly so wealthy, am all on a sudden broken to pieces: he hath taken me by my neck, he hath broken me, and hath set me up to be his mark.
Cercáronme sus flecheros, partió mis riñones, y no perdonó: mi hiel derramó por tierra.
His archers compass me round about, he cleaveth my reins asunder, and doth not spare; he poureth out my gall upon the ground.
His archers surround me. He splits my kidneys apart, and does not spare. He pours out my bile on the ground.
He hath compassed me round about with his lances, he hath wounded my loins, he hath not spared, and hath poured out my bowels on the earth,
Quebrantóme de quebranto sobre quebranto; corrió contra mí como un gigante.
He breaketh me with breach upon breach, he runneth upon me like a giant.
He breaks me with breach on breach. He runs at me like a giant.
He hath torn me with wound upon wound, he hath rushed in upon me like a giant.
Yo cosí saco sobre mi piel, y cargué mi cabeza de polvo.
I have sewed sackcloth upon my skin, and defiled my horn in the dust.
I have sewed sackcloth on my skin, and have thrust my horn in the dust.
I have sowed sackcloth upon my skin, and have covered my flesh with ashes.
Mi rostro está enlodado con lloro, y mis párpados entenebrecidos:
My face is foul with weeping, and on my eyelids is the shadow of death;
My face is red with weeping. Deep darkness is on my eyelids,
My face is swollen with weeping, and my eyelids are dim.
A pesar de no haber iniquidad en mis manos, y de haber sido mi oración pura.
Not for any injustice in mine hands: also my prayer is pure.
although there is no violence in my hands, and my prayer is pure.
These things have I suffered without the iniquity of my hand, when I offered pure prayers to God.
¡Oh tierra! no cubras mi sangre, y no haya lugar á mi clamor.
O earth, cover not thou my blood, and let my cry have no place.
“Earth, don’t cover my blood. Let my cry have no place to rest.
O earth, cover not thou my blood, neither let my cry find a hiding place in thee.
Mas he aquí que en los cielos está mi testigo, y mi testimonio en las alturas.
Also now, behold, my witness is in heaven, and my record is on high.
Even now, behold, my witness is in heaven. He who vouches for me is on high.
For behold my witness is in heaven, and he that knoweth my conscience is on high.
Disputadores son mis amigos: mas á Dios destilarán mis ojos.
My friends scorn me: but mine eye poureth out tears unto God.
My friends scoff at me. My eyes pour out tears to God,
My friends are full of words: my eye poureth out tears to God.
¡Ojalá pudiese disputar el hombre con Dios, como con su prójimo!
O that one might plead for a man with God, as a man pleadeth for his neighbour!
that he would maintain the right of a man with God, of a son of man with his neighbor!
And O that a man might so be judged with God, as the son of man is judged with his companion!
Mas los años contados vendrán, y yo iré el camino por donde no volveré.
When a few years are come, then I shall go the way whence I shall not return.
For when a few years have come, I will go the way of no return.
For behold short years pass away, and I am walking in a path by which I shall not return.
