“Já estou cansado de ouvir o que vocês estão me dizendo. Afinal, que espécie de amigos são vocês? Querem me consolar ou me acusar?
Muchas veces he oído cosas como estas: consoladores molestos sois todos vosotros.
I have heard many such things: miserable comforters are ye all.
“I have heard many such things. You are all miserable comforters!
Suas palavras são vazias e sem sentido. O que eu fiz para vocês me encherem os ouvidos com essas respostas tolas?
¿Tendrán fin las palabras ventosas? ó ¿qué te animará á responder?
Shall vain words have an end? or what emboldeneth thee that thou answerest?
Shall vain words have an end? Or what provokes you that you answer?
Se eu estivesse em seu lugar, e vocês em meu lugar, será que eu lhes diria as mesmas tolices e balançaria a minha cabeça contra vocês?
También yo hablaría como vosotros. Ojalá vuestra alma estuviera en lugar de la mía, que yo os tendría compañía en las palabras, y sobre vosotros movería mi cabeza.
I also could speak as ye do: if your soul were in my soul’s stead, I could heap up words against you, and shake mine head at you.
I also could speak as you do. If your soul were in my soul’s place, I could join words together against you, and shake my head at you,
Não! Eu não faria uma coisa dessas! Eu falaria com interesse e sinceridade palavras de consolo, para diminuir o seu sofrimento.
Mas yo os alentaría con mis palabras, y la consolación de mis labios apaciguaría el dolor vuestro.
But I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the moving of my lips should asswage your grief.
but I would strengthen you with my mouth. The solace of my lips would relieve you.
“Mas agora, a minha dor não passa mesmo que eu abra o meu coração; e se me calo, ela não desaparece.
Si hablo, mi dolor no cesa; y si dejo de hablar, no se aparta de mí.
Though I speak, my grief is not asswaged: and though I forbear, what am I eased?
“Though I speak, my grief is not subsided. Though I forbear, what am I eased?
Ó Deus, o Senhor me deixou sem forças; o Senhor destruiu a minha família completamente.
Empero ahora me ha fatigado: has tú asolado toda mi compañía.
But now he hath made me weary: thou hast made desolate all my company.
But now, God, you have surely worn me out. You have made all my company desolate.
Meu sofrimento acabou com a minha saúde, e a minha magreza já se levanta contra mim!
Tú me has arrugado; testigo es mi flacura, que se levanta contra mí para testificar en mi rostro.
And thou hast filled me with wrinkles, which is a witness against me: and my leanness rising up in me beareth witness to my face.
You have shriveled me up. This is a witness against me. My leanness rises up against me. It testifies to my face.
Sim, Deus está irado comigo e me tem arrasado, e range os dentes contra mim; os meus adversários me olham com um olhar ferino.
Su furor me destrizó, y me ha sido contrario: crujió sus dientes contra mí; contra mí aguzó sus ojos mi enemigo.
He teareth me in his wrath, who hateth me: he gnasheth upon me with his teeth; mine enemy sharpeneth his eyes upon me.
He has torn me in his wrath and persecuted me. He has gnashed on me with his teeth. My adversary sharpens his eyes on me.
Os homens também vêm me acusar com suas palavras e mostram desprezo pela minha triste condição, e esmurram o meu rosto para me humilhar.
Abrieron contra mí su boca; hirieron mis mejillas con afrenta; contra mí se juntaron todos.
They have gaped upon me with their mouth; they have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully; they have gathered themselves together against me.
They have gaped on me with their mouth. They have struck me on the cheek reproachfully. They gather themselves together against me.
Deus mesmo me entregou nas mãos dos pecadores e me fez cair nas mãos dos maus.
Hame entregado Dios al mentiroso, y en las manos de los impíos me hizo estremecer
God hath delivered me to the ungodly, and turned me over into the hands of the wicked.
God delivers me to the ungodly, and casts me into the hands of the wicked.
Eu vivia em paz até o dia em que ele me arrasou com seu castigo. Sim, ele me destruiu; fez minha vida em pedaços e me escolheu como alvo.
Próspero estaba, y desmenuzóme: y arrebatóme por la cerviz, y despedazóme, y púsome por blanco suyo.
I was at ease, but he hath broken me asunder: he hath also taken me by my neck, and shaken me to pieces, and set me up for his mark.
I was at ease, and he broke me apart. Yes, he has taken me by the neck, and dashed me to pieces. He has also set me up for his target.
Seus flecheiros me cercaram. Eles traspassaram os meus rins, e a minha bílis foi derramada pelo chão.
Cercáronme sus flecheros, partió mis riñones, y no perdonó: mi hiel derramó por tierra.
His archers compass me round about, he cleaveth my reins asunder, and doth not spare; he poureth out my gall upon the ground.
His archers surround me. He splits my kidneys apart, and does not spare. He pours out my bile on the ground.
Sem parar, ele me ataca como um soldado ao seu inimigo.
Quebrantóme de quebranto sobre quebranto; corrió contra mí como un gigante.
He breaketh me with breach upon breach, he runneth upon me like a giant.
He breaks me with breach on breach. He runs at me like a giant.
“Como sinal da minha tristeza, costurei uma veste de lamento sobre a minha pele e enterrei a minha testa no pó da terra.
Yo cosí saco sobre mi piel, y cargué mi cabeza de polvo.
I have sewed sackcloth upon my skin, and defiled my horn in the dust.
I have sewed sackcloth on my skin, and have thrust my horn in the dust.
Já não tenho mais lágrimas; meus olhos já estão vermelhos de tanto chorar e tenho profundas olheiras, como um homem prestes a morrer.
Mi rostro está enlodado con lloro, y mis párpados entenebrecidos:
My face is foul with weeping, and on my eyelids is the shadow of death;
My face is red with weeping. Deep darkness is on my eyelids,
Tudo isso me acontece embora eu seja inocente e não haja violência em minhas mãos e sejam sinceras as minhas orações.
A pesar de no haber iniquidad en mis manos, y de haber sido mi oración pura.
Not for any injustice in mine hands: also my prayer is pure.
although there is no violence in my hands, and my prayer is pure.
“Ó terra, não esconda o meu sangue, e que não haja lugar que oculte o meu clamor!
¡Oh tierra! no cubras mi sangre, y no haya lugar á mi clamor.
O earth, cover not thou my blood, and let my cry have no place.
“Earth, don’t cover my blood. Let my cry have no place to rest.
E vocês fiquem sabendo que a minha testemunha está nos céus; O meu advogado está nas alturas.
Mas he aquí que en los cielos está mi testigo, y mi testimonio en las alturas.
Also now, behold, my witness is in heaven, and my record is on high.
Even now, behold, my witness is in heaven. He who vouches for me is on high.
Vocês zombam de mim enquanto eu derramo lágrimas sinceras diante de Deus;
Disputadores son mis amigos: mas á Dios destilarán mis ojos.
My friends scorn me: but mine eye poureth out tears unto God.
My friends scoff at me. My eyes pour out tears to God,
pedindo que ele me ouça como faria um homem com o seu amigo.
¡Ojalá pudiese disputar el hombre con Dios, como con su prójimo!
O that one might plead for a man with God, as a man pleadeth for his neighbour!
that he would maintain the right of a man with God, of a son of man with his neighbor!
“Porque eu sei que em breve seguirei por aquela estrada que não tem volta”.
Mas los años contados vendrán, y yo iré el camino por donde no volveré.
When a few years are come, then I shall go the way whence I shall not return.
For when a few years have come, I will go the way of no return.
