Muchas veces he oído esas mismas cosas; consoladores bien pesados sois todos vosotros.

I have heard many such things: miserable comforters are ye all.
“I have heard many such things. You are all miserable comforters!
¿Cuándo tendrán fin esas palabras? ¿Hay cosa más fácil que hablar como hablas?
¿Tendrán fin las palabras ventosas? ó ¿qué te animará á responder?
Shall vain words have an end? or what emboldeneth thee that thou answerest?
Shall vain words have an end? Or what provokes you that you answer?
Bien pudiera yo hablar como vosotros. Mas en verdad que si vuestra alma se hallara en el estado de la mía, yo sé que os consolaría, y que compasivo inclinaría hacia vosotros mi cabeza,
También yo hablaría como vosotros. Ojalá vuestra alma estuviera en lugar de la mía, que yo os tendría compañía en las palabras, y sobre vosotros movería mi cabeza.
I also could speak as ye do: if your soul were in my soul’s stead, I could heap up words against you, and shake mine head at you.
I also could speak as you do. If your soul were in my soul’s place, I could join words together against you, and shake my head at you,
os alentaría con mis palabras, y os expresarían mis labios mi compasión.
Mas yo os alentaría con mis palabras, y la consolación de mis labios apaciguaría el dolor vuestro.
But I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the moving of my lips should asswage your grief.
but I would strengthen you with my mouth. The solace of my lips would relieve you.
Mas ahora, ¿qué haré? Por más que hable no se mitigará mi dolor; y si guardo silencio, no por eso me dejará.
Si hablo, mi dolor no cesa; y si dejo de hablar, no se aparta de mí.
Though I speak, my grief is not asswaged: and though I forbear, what am I eased?
“Though I speak, my grief is not subsided. Though I forbear, what am I eased?
Al presente me ha oprimido el dolor, y están aniquilados todos mis miembros.
Empero ahora me ha fatigado: has tú asolado toda mi compañía.
But now he hath made me weary: thou hast made desolate all my company.
But now, God, you have surely worn me out. You have made all my company desolate.
Las arrugas de mi piel dan testimonio contra mí y lo que es más cruel, cierto hombre se vuelve contra mí, contradiciéndome cara a cara con falsos y calumniosos discursos.
Tú me has arrugado; testigo es mi flacura, que se levanta contra mí para testificar en mi rostro.
And thou hast filled me with wrinkles, which is a witness against me: and my leanness rising up in me beareth witness to my face.
You have shriveled me up. This is a witness against me. My leanness rises up against me. It testifies to my face.
Reúne todo su furor contra mí, y amenazándome rechina sus dientes; hecho enemigo mío, me mira con ojos terribles.
Su furor me destrizó, y me ha sido contrario: crujió sus dientes contra mí; contra mí aguzó sus ojos mi enemigo.
He teareth me in his wrath, who hateth me: he gnasheth upon me with his teeth; mine enemy sharpeneth his eyes upon me.
He has torn me in his wrath and persecuted me. He has gnashed on me with his teeth. My adversary sharpens his eyes on me.
Todos mis amigos han abierto contra mí su boca y zahiriéndome con oprobios me han abofeteado; se han saciado con el placer de ver mis penas.
Abrieron contra mí su boca; hirieron mis mejillas con afrenta; contra mí se juntaron todos.
They have gaped upon me with their mouth; they have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully; they have gathered themselves together against me.
They have gaped on me with their mouth. They have struck me on the cheek reproachfully. They gather themselves together against me.
Dios me ha puesto encerrado, a disposición del inicuo, y me ha entregado en manos de los impíos.
Hame entregado Dios al mentiroso, y en las manos de los impíos me hizo estremecer
God hath delivered me to the ungodly, and turned me over into the hands of the wicked.
God delivers me to the ungodly, and casts me into the hands of the wicked.
Yo, aquel tan opulento y dichoso algún día, de repente he sido reducido a la nada; me asió de la cerviz el Señor, quebrantándome, y me puso como por blanco de sus tiros.
Próspero estaba, y desmenuzóme: y arrebatóme por la cerviz, y despedazóme, y púsome por blanco suyo.
I was at ease, but he hath broken me asunder: he hath also taken me by my neck, and shaken me to pieces, and set me up for his mark.
I was at ease, and he broke me apart. Yes, he has taken me by the neck, and dashed me to pieces. He has also set me up for his target.
Me dejó hecho un erizo con sus dardos, cubrió de heridas mis costados sin piedad alguna, hasta esparcir por el suelo mis entrañas.
Cercáronme sus flecheros, partió mis riñones, y no perdonó: mi hiel derramó por tierra.
His archers compass me round about, he cleaveth my reins asunder, and doth not spare; he poureth out my gall upon the ground.
His archers surround me. He splits my kidneys apart, and does not spare. He pours out my bile on the ground.
Me ha despedazado con heridas sobre heridas; cual gigante se ha arrojado sobre mí.
Quebrantóme de quebranto sobre quebranto; corrió contra mí como un gigante.
He breaketh me with breach upon breach, he runneth upon me like a giant.
He breaks me with breach on breach. He runs at me like a giant.
Yo llevo cosido o pegado a mi piel el cilicio, y he cubierto de ceniza mi cabeza.
Yo cosí saco sobre mi piel, y cargué mi cabeza de polvo.
I have sewed sackcloth upon my skin, and defiled my horn in the dust.
I have sewed sackcloth on my skin, and have thrust my horn in the dust.
De tanto llorar está entumecido mi rostro, y se han cubierto de tinieblas las pupilas de mis ojos.
Mi rostro está enlodado con lloro, y mis párpados entenebrecidos:
My face is foul with weeping, and on my eyelids is the shadow of death;
My face is red with weeping. Deep darkness is on my eyelids,
Todas estas cosas he sufrido, sin que la iniquidad haya manchado mis obras, antes bien ofreciendo puras a Dios mis súplicas.
A pesar de no haber iniquidad en mis manos, y de haber sido mi oración pura.
Not for any injustice in mine hands: also my prayer is pure.
although there is no violence in my hands, and my prayer is pure.
¡Oh tierra!, no cubras mi sangre, ni sofoques en tu seno mis clamores.
¡Oh tierra! no cubras mi sangre, y no haya lugar á mi clamor.
O earth, cover not thou my blood, and let my cry have no place.
“Earth, don’t cover my blood. Let my cry have no place to rest.
Mira que el testigo de mi inocencia está en el cielo, y allí arriba reside el que me conoce a fondo.
Mas he aquí que en los cielos está mi testigo, y mi testimonio en las alturas.
Also now, behold, my witness is in heaven, and my record is on high.
Even now, behold, my witness is in heaven. He who vouches for me is on high.
Mis amigos son unos habladores y calumniadores; a Dios es a quien recurren deshechos en lágrimas mis ojos.
Disputadores son mis amigos: mas á Dios destilarán mis ojos.
My friends scorn me: but mine eye poureth out tears unto God.
My friends scoff at me. My eyes pour out tears to God,
¡Y ojalá que se tratase la causa del hombre con Dios, tan públicamente como se trata la de un hijo del hombre con su competidor!
¡Ojalá pudiese disputar el hombre con Dios, como con su prójimo!
O that one might plead for a man with God, as a man pleadeth for his neighbour!
that he would maintain the right of a man with God, of a son of man with his neighbor!
Pues se van pasando a toda prisa mis cortos años, y yo sigo una senda por la cual no volveré ya más.
Mas los años contados vendrán, y yo iré el camino por donde no volveré.
When a few years are come, then I shall go the way whence I shall not return.
For when a few years have come, I will go the way of no return.
