Había en el país de Hus un varón célebre llamado Job, hombre sencillo y recto y temeroso de Dios, que se apartaba del mal.
HUBO un varón en tierra de Hus, llamado Job; y era este hombre perfecto y recto, y temeroso de Dios, y apartado del mal.
There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.

Tenía siete hijos y tres hijas;

Concluido el turno de los días del convite, enviaba Job a llamarlos, y los santificaba, y levantándose de madrugada ofrecía holocaustos a Dios por cada uno de ellos. Porque decía: No sea que mis hijos hayan pecado y desechado a Dios en sus corazones. Esto hacía Job en todos aquellos días.
Y acontecía que, habiendo pasado en turno los días del convite, Job enviaba y santificábalos, y levantábase de mañana y ofrecía holocaustos conforme al número de todos ellos. Porque decía Job: Quizá habrán pecado mis hijos, y habrán blasfemado á Dios en sus corazones. De esta manera hacía todos los días.
And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.

Pero cierto día, concurriendo los hijos de Dios, esto es, los ángeles, a presentarse delante del Señor, compareció también entre ellos Satanás.
Y un día vinieron los hijos de Dios á presentarse delante de Jehová, entre los cuales vino también Satán.
Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.

Al cual dijo el Señor: ¿De dónde vendrás tú? El respondió: Vengo de dar la vuelta por la tierra, y de recorrerla toda.
Y dijo Jehová á Satán: ¿De dónde vienes? Y respondiendo Satán á Jehová, dijo: De rodear la tierra, y de andar por ella.
And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
The LORD said to Satan, “Where have you come from?” Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, “From going back and forth in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.”
Le replicó el Señor: ¿Has puesto tu atención en mi siervo Job, que no hay otro como él en la tierra, varón sencillo, y recto, y temeroso de Dios, y ajeno de todo mal obrar?
Y Jehová dijo á Satán: ¿No has considerado á mi siervo Job, que no hay otro como él en la tierra, varón perfecto y recto, temeroso de Dios, y apartado de mal?
And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?
The LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant, Job? For there is no one like him in the earth, a blameless and an upright man, one who fears God, and turns away from evil.”
Mas Satanás le respondió: ¿Acaso Job teme o sirve a Dios de balde?
Y respondiendo Satán á Jehová, dijo: ¿Teme Job á Dios de balde?
Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?
Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, “Does Job fear God for nothing?
¿No lo tienes tú a cubierto de todo mal por todas partes, así a él como a su casa y a toda su hacienda? ¿No has echado la bendición sobre todas las obras de sus manos, con lo que se han multiplicado sus bienes en la tierra?
¿No le has tú cercado á él, y á su casa, y á todo lo que tiene en derredor? Al trabajo de sus manos has dado bendición; por tanto su hacienda ha crecido sobre la tierra.
Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.
Haven’t you made a hedge around him, and around his house, and around all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.
Mas extiende un poquito tu mano, y toca sus bienes, y verás cómo te desprecia en tu cara.
Mas extiende ahora tu mano, y toca á todo lo que tiene, y verás si no te blasfema en tu rostro.
But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.
But stretch out your hand now, and touch all that he has, and he will renounce you to your face.”
Dijo, pues, el Señor a Satanás: Ahora bien, todo cuanto posee lo dejo a tu disposición; sólo que no extiendas tu mano contra él. Con esto se salió Satanás de la presencia del Señor a ejecutar sus designios.
Y dijo Jehová á Satán: He aquí, todo lo que tiene está en tu mano: solamente no pongas tu mano sobre él. Y salióse Satán de delante de Jehová.
And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.
The LORD said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your power. Only on himself don’t stretch out your hand.” So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD.
En efecto, mientras los hijos e hijas de Job se hallaban un día todos juntos comiendo y bebiendo vino en casa del hermano primogénito,
Y un día aconteció que sus hijos é hijas comían y bebían vino en casa de su hermano el primogénito,
And there was a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother’s house:
It fell on a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house,
llegó a Job un mensajero que le dijo: Estaban los bueyes arando y las asnas paciendo cerca de ellos,
Y vino un mensajero á Job, que le dijo: Estando arando los bueyes, y las asnas paciendo cerca de ellos,
And there came a messenger unto Job, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding beside them:
that a messenger came to Job, and said, “The oxen were plowing, and the donkeys feeding beside them,
cuando he aquí que han hecho una excursión los sabeos y lo han robado todo, y han pasado a cuchillo a los mozos, y he escapado sólo yo para que pueda darte la noticia.
Acometieron los Sabeos, y tomáronlos, é hirieron á los mozos á filo de espada: solamente escapé yo para traerte las nuevas.
And the Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away; yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
and the Sabeans attacked, and took them away. Yes, they have killed the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you.”
Estando aún éste hablando, llegó otro hombre, y dijo: Fuego de Dios ha caído del cielo, y ha reducido a cenizas las ovejas y los pastores, y he escapado sólo yo para que pueda traerte la noticia.
Aun estaba éste hablando, y vino otro que dijo: Fuego de Dios cayó del cielo, que quemó las ovejas y los mozos, y los consumió: solamente escapé yo solo para traerte las nuevas.
While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The fire of God has fallen from the sky, and has burned up the sheep and the servants, and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you.”
Todavía estaba éste con la palabra en la boca, y entró otro diciendo: Los caldeos, divididos en tres cuadrillas, se han arrojado sobre los camellos, y se los han llevado, después de haber pasado a cuchillo a los mozos, y he escapado sólo yo para darte aviso.
Todavía estaba éste hablando, y vino otro que dijo: Los Caldeos hicieron tres escuadrones, y dieron sobre los camellos, y tomáronlos, é hirieron á los mozos á filo de espada; y solamente escapé yo solo para traerte las nuevas.
While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The Chaldeans made three bands, and swept down on the camels, and have taken them away, yes, and killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you.”
No había éste acabado de hablar, cuando llegó otro que dijo: Estando comiendo tus hijos e hijas y bebiendo vino en la casa de su hermano mayor,
Entre tanto que éste hablaba, vino otro que dijo: Tus hijos y tus hijas estaban comiendo y bebiendo vino en casa de su hermano el primogénito;
While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother’s house:
While he was still speaking, there came also another, and said, “Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house,
ha venido de repente un huracán de la parte del desierto, que ha conmovido las cuatro esquinas de la casa, la cual ha caído, cogiendo debajo a tus hijos, que han quedado muertos, y me he salvado sólo yo para poder avisártelo.
Y he aquí un gran viento que vino del lado del desierto, é hirió las cuatro esquinas de la casa, y cayó sobre los mozos, y murieron; y solamente escapé yo solo para traerte las nuevas.
And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

Entonces Job se levantó y rasgó sus vestidos, y habiéndose hecho cortar a raíz el pelo de la cabeza se postró en tierra y adoró al Señor,
Entonces Job se levantó, y rasgó su manto, y trasquiló su cabeza, y cayendo en tierra adoró;
Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped,
Then Job arose, and tore his robe, and shaved his head, and fell down on the ground, and worshiped.
y dijo: Desnudo salí del vientre de mi madre, y desnudo volveré a ella. El Señor me lo dio todo; el Señor me lo ha quitado; se ha hecho lo que es de su agrado; bendito sea el nombre del Señor.
Y dijo: Desnudo salí del vientre de mi madre, y desnudo tornaré allá. Jehová dió, y Jehová quitó: sea el nombre de Jehová bendito.
And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.
He said, “Naked I came out of my mother’s womb, and naked will I return there. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away. Blessed be the LORD’s name.”
En medio de todas esas cosas no pecó Job en cuanto dijo, ni habló una palabra inconsiderada contra Dios.
En todo esto no pecó Job, ni atribuyó á Dios despropósito alguno.
In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.
In all this, Job didn’t sin, nor charge God with wrongdoing.
