Ecoutez, écoutez mes paroles, que j'aie, du moins, cette consolation de vous.
Oid atentamente mi palabra, y sea esto vuestros consuelos.
Hear diligently my speech, and let this be your consolations.
“Listen diligently to my speech. Let this be your consolation.
Permettez-moi de parler à mon tour, et, quand j'aurai parlé, vous pourrez vous moquer.
Soportadme, y yo hablaré; y después que hubiere hablado, escarneced.
Suffer me that I may speak; and after that I have spoken, mock on.
Allow me, and I also will speak. After I have spoken, mock on.
Est-ce contre un homme que se porte ma plainte ? Comment donc la patience ne m'échapperait elle pas ?
¿Hablo yo á algún hombre? y ¿por qué no se ha de angustiar mi espíritu?
As for me, is my complaint to man? and if it were so, why should not my spirit be troubled?
As for me, is my complaint to man? Why shouldn’t I be impatient?
Regardez-moi et soyez dans la stupeur, et mettez la main sur votre bouche.
Miradme, y espantaos, y poned la mano sobre la boca.

Quand j'y pense, je frémis ; et un frissonnement saisit ma chair.

Even when I remember I am afraid, and trembling taketh hold on my flesh.

Pourquoi les méchants vivent-ils, et vieillissent-ils, accroissant leur force ?
¿Por qué viven los impíos, y se envejecen, y aun crecen en riquezas?
Wherefore do the wicked live, become old, yea, are mighty in power?

Leur postérité s'affermit autour d'eux, leurs rejetons fleurissent à leurs yeux.
Su simiente con ellos, compuesta delante de ellos; y sus renuevos delante de sus ojos.
Their seed is established in their sight with them, and their offspring before their eyes.

Leur maison est en paix, à l'abri de la crainte ; la verge de Dieu ne les touche pas.
Sus casas seguras de temor, ni hay azote de Dios sobre ellos.

Ils laissent courir leurs enfants comme un troupeau, leurs nouveau-nés bondissent autour d'eux.

Ils chantent au son du tambourin et de la cithare, ils se divertissent au son du chalumeau.
Al son de tamboril y de cítara saltan, y se huelgan al son del órgano.
They take the timbrel and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the organ.

Ils passent leurs jours dans le bonheur, et ils descendent en un instant au schéol.
Gastan sus días en bien, y en un momento descienden á la sepultura.

Pourtant ils disaient à Dieu : « Retire-toi de nous ; nous ne désirons pas connaître tes voies.
Dicen pues á Dios: Apártate de nosotros, que no queremos el conocimiento de tus caminos.
Therefore they say unto God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways.
They tell God, ‘Depart from us, for we don’t want to know about your ways.
Qu'est-ce que le Tout-Puissant, pour que nous le servions ? Que gagnerions-nous à le prier ? »
¿Quién es el Todopoderoso, para que le sirvamos? ¿y de qué nos aprovechará que oremos á él?
What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto him?

Leur prospérité n'est-elle pas dans leur main ? — Toutefois, loin de moi le conseil de l'impie ! —
He aquí que su bien no está en manos de ellos: el consejo de los impíos lejos esté de mí.
Lo, their good is not in their hand: the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

Voit-on souvent s'éteindre la lampe des impies, la ruine fondre sur eux, et Dieu leur assigner un lot dans sa colère ?
¡Oh cuántas veces la lámpara de los impíos es apagada, y viene sobre ellos su quebranto, y Dios en su ira les reparte dolores!
How oft is the candle of the wicked put out! and how oft cometh their destruction upon them! God distributeth sorrows in his anger.
“How often is it that the lamp of the wicked is put out, that their calamity comes on them, that God distributes sorrows in his anger?
Les voit-on comme la paille emportée par le vent, comme la glume enlevée par le tourbillon ?
Serán como la paja delante del viento, y como el tamo que arrebata el torbellino.
They are as stubble before the wind, and as chaff that the storm carrieth away.

« Dieu, dites-vous, réserve à ses enfants son châtiment !... » Mais que Dieu le punisse lui-même pour qu'il le sente,
Dios guardará para sus hijos su violencia; y le dará su pago, para que conozca.
God layeth up his iniquity for his children: he rewardeth him, and he shall know it.
You say, ‘God lays up his iniquity for his children.’ Let him recompense it to himself, that he may know it.
qu'il voie de ses yeux sa ruine, qu'il boive lui-même la colère du Tout-Puissant !
Verán sus ojos su quebranto, y beberá de la ira del Todopoderoso.
His eyes shall see his destruction, and he shall drink of the wrath of the Almighty.
Let his own eyes see his destruction. Let him drink of the wrath of the Almighty.
Que lui importe, en effet, sa maison après lui, une fois que le nombre de ses mois est tranché ?
Porque ¿qué deleite tendrá él de su casa después de sí, siendo cortado el número de sus meses?
For what pleasure hath he in his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off in the midst?

Est-ce à Dieu qu'on apprendra la sagesse, à lui qui juge les êtres les plus élevés ?
¿Enseñará alguien á Dios sabiduría, juzgando él á los que están elevados?
Shall any teach God knowledge? seeing he judgeth those that are high.

L'un meurt au sein de sa prospérité, parfaitement heureux et tranquille,
Este morirá en el vigor de su hermosura, todo quieto y pacífico.

les flancs chargés de graisse, et la moelle des os remplie de sève.
Sus colodras están llenas de leche, y sus huesos serán regados de tuétano.
His breasts are full of milk, and his bones are moistened with marrow.

L'autre meurt, l'amertume dans l'âme, sans avoir goûté le bonheur.
Y estotro morirá en amargura de ánimo, y no habiendo comido jamás con gusto.
And another dieth in the bitterness of his soul, and never eateth with pleasure.

Tous deux se couchent également dans la poussière, et les vers les couvrent tous deux.
Igualmente yacerán ellos en el polvo, y gusanos los cubrirán.
They shall lie down alike in the dust, and the worms shall cover them.

Ah ! Je sais bien quelles sont vos pensées, quels jugements iniques vous portez sur moi.
He aquí, yo conozco vuestros pensamientos, y las imaginaciones que contra mí forjáis.
Behold, I know your thoughts, and the devices which ye wrongfully imagine against me.
“Behold, I know your thoughts, the plans with which you would wrong me.
Vous dites : « Où est la maison de l'oppresseur ! Qu'est devenue la tente qu'habitaient les impies ? »
Porque decís: ¿Qué es de la casa del príncipe, y qué de la tienda de las moradas de los impíos?
For ye say, Where is the house of the prince? and where are the dwelling places of the wicked?
For you say, ‘Where is the house of the prince? Where is the tent in which the wicked lived?’
N'avez-vous donc jamais interrogé les voyageurs, et ignorez-vous leurs remarques ?
¿No habéis preguntado á los que pasan por los caminos, por cuyas señas no negaréis,
Have ye not asked them that go by the way? and do ye not know their tokens,
Haven’t you asked wayfaring men? Don’t you know their evidences,
Au jour du malheur, le méchant est épargné ; au jour de la colère, il échappe au châtiment.
Que el malo es reservado para el día de la destrucción? Presentados serán en el día de las iras.
That the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.
that the evil man is reserved to the day of calamity, that they are led out to the day of wrath?
Qui blâme devant lui sa conduite ? Qui lui demande compte de ce qu'il a fait ?
¿Quién le denunciará en su cara su camino? Y de lo que él hizo, ¿quién le dará el pago?
Who shall declare his way to his face? and who shall repay him what he hath done?

On le porte honorablement au tombeau ; et on veille sur son mausolée.
Porque llevado será él á los sepulcros, y en el montón permanecerá.
Yet shall he be brought to the grave, and shall remain in the tomb.

les glèbes de la vallée lui sont légères, et tous les hommes y vont à sa suite, comme des générations sans nombre l'y ont précédé.
Los terrones del valle le serán dulces; y tras de él será llevado todo hombre, y antes de él han ido innumerables.
The clods of the valley shall be sweet unto him, and every man shall draw after him, as there are innumerable before him.

Que signifient donc vos vaines consolations ? De vos réponses il ne reste que perfidie.
¿Cómo pues me consoláis en vano, viniendo á parar vuestras respuestas en falacia?
How then comfort ye me in vain, seeing in your answers there remaineth falsehood?
So how can you comfort me with nonsense, because in your answers there remains only falsehood?”
