»Hört, o höret an, was ich zu sagen habe! Das soll mir eure Tröstungen ersetzen!
Oid atentamente mi palabra, y sea esto vuestros consuelos.
Hear diligently my speech, and let this be your consolations.
“Listen diligently to my speech. Let this be your consolation.
Erlaubt mir, daß ich rede, und nachdem ich gesprochen habe, magst du es bespötteln!
Soportadme, y yo hablaré; y después que hubiere hablado, escarneced.
Suffer me that I may speak; and after that I have spoken, mock on.
Allow me, and I also will speak. After I have spoken, mock on.
Richtet sich meine Klage etwa gegen Menschen? Oder warum sollte ich nicht ungeduldig werden?
¿Hablo yo á algún hombre? y ¿por qué no se ha de angustiar mi espíritu?
As for me, is my complaint to man? and if it were so, why should not my spirit be troubled?

Wendet euch her zu mir, so werdet ihr euch entsetzen und euch die Hand auf den Mund legen!

Wenn ich bloß daran denke, gerate ich in Bestürzung, und ein Schauder überläuft meinen Leib!«
Aun yo mismo, cuando me acuerdo, me asombro, y toma temblor mi carne.
Even when I remember I am afraid, and trembling taketh hold on my flesh.
When I remember, I am troubled. Horror takes hold of my flesh.
»Warum bleiben die Frevler am Leben, werden alt, nehmen sogar an Kraft zu?
¿Por qué viven los impíos, y se envejecen, y aun crecen en riquezas?
Wherefore do the wicked live, become old, yea, are mighty in power?
“Why do the wicked live, become old, yes, and grow mighty in power?
Ihr Nachwuchs steht bei fester Gesundheit vor ihnen, ja neben ihnen, und deren Sprößlinge vor ihren Augen.
Su simiente con ellos, compuesta delante de ellos; y sus renuevos delante de sus ojos.
Their seed is established in their sight with them, and their offspring before their eyes.

Ihre Häuser stehen ungefährdet da, ohne Furcht vor Schrecknis, und Gottes Zuchtrute fährt nicht auf sie nieder.

sie singen laut zur Pauke und Zither und sind vergnügt beim Klang der Schalmei.
Al son de tamboril y de cítara saltan, y se huelgan al son del órgano.
They take the timbrel and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the organ.

Sie verbringen im Wohlergehen ihre Tage und fahren in Ruhe zum Totenreich hinab.
Gastan sus días en bien, y en un momento descienden á la sepultura.
They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment go down to the grave.
They spend their days in prosperity. In an instant they go down to Sheol.
Und doch haben sie zu Gott gesagt: ›Bleibe fern von uns; denn nach der Erkenntnis deiner Wege tragen wir kein Verlangen.
Dicen pues á Dios: Apártate de nosotros, que no queremos el conocimiento de tus caminos.
Therefore they say unto God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways.
They tell God, ‘Depart from us, for we don’t want to know about your ways.
Was ist der Allmächtige, daß wir ihm dienen sollten? Und könnte es uns nützen, daß wir ihn mit Bitten angehen?‹«
¿Quién es el Todopoderoso, para que le sirvamos? ¿y de qué nos aprovechará que oremos á él?
What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto him?

»Seht, ihr Wohlergehen liegt allerdings nicht in ihrer Hand – die Denkweise der Frevler steht mir fern! –,
He aquí que su bien no está en manos de ellos: el consejo de los impíos lejos esté de mí.
Lo, their good is not in their hand: the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
Behold, their prosperity is not in their hand. The counsel of the wicked is far from me.
aber wie oft kommt es denn vor, daß die Leuchte der Frevler erlischt und ihr Verderben über sie hereinbricht? Daß Gott ihnen die Lose gemäß seinem Zorn zuteilt?
¡Oh cuántas veces la lámpara de los impíos es apagada, y viene sobre ellos su quebranto, y Dios en su ira les reparte dolores!
How oft is the candle of the wicked put out! and how oft cometh their destruction upon them! God distributeth sorrows in his anger.
“How often is it that the lamp of the wicked is put out, that their calamity comes on them, that God distributes sorrows in his anger?
Daß es ihnen ergeht wie dem Strohhalm vor dem Wind und wie der Spreu, die der Sturm entführt hat?
Serán como la paja delante del viento, y como el tamo que arrebata el torbellino.
They are as stubble before the wind, and as chaff that the storm carrieth away.
How often is it that they are as stubble before the wind, as chaff that the storm carries away?
›Gott spart‹, sagt ihr, ›sein Unheil für die Kinder des Frevlers auf‹ – doch ihm selber sollte er vergelten, daß er es fühlte!
Dios guardará para sus hijos su violencia; y le dará su pago, para que conozca.
God layeth up his iniquity for his children: he rewardeth him, and he shall know it.
You say, ‘God lays up his iniquity for his children.’ Let him recompense it to himself, that he may know it.
Sehen müßten seine eigenen Augen das Verderben, und er selbst sollte von der Zornglut des Allmächtigen trinken!
Verán sus ojos su quebranto, y beberá de la ira del Todopoderoso.
His eyes shall see his destruction, and he shall drink of the wrath of the Almighty.
Let his own eyes see his destruction. Let him drink of the wrath of the Almighty.
Denn was wird er sich noch um seine Familie nach seinem Tode kümmern, nachdem die Zahl seiner Monde abgeschnitten ist?
Porque ¿qué deleite tendrá él de su casa después de sí, siendo cortado el número de sus meses?
For what pleasure hath he in his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off in the midst?

Doch – darf man Gott Erkenntnis lehren, ihn, der die himmlischen (Geister) richtet?
¿Enseñará alguien á Dios sabiduría, juzgando él á los que están elevados?
Shall any teach God knowledge? seeing he judgeth those that are high.

Der eine stirbt im Vollbesitz des Glücks, ganz sorgenfrei und in Ruhe:
Este morirá en el vigor de su hermosura, todo quieto y pacífico.
One dieth in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet.
One dies in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet.
seine Kufen sind mit Milch gefüllt, und so ist das Mark in seinen Knochen wohlversorgt;
Sus colodras están llenas de leche, y sus huesos serán regados de tuétano.
His breasts are full of milk, and his bones are moistened with marrow.
His pails are full of milk. The marrow of his bones is moistened.
der andere aber stirbt in bitterem Herzeleid, ohne je vom Glück etwas geschmeckt zu haben:
Y estotro morirá en amargura de ánimo, y no habiendo comido jamás con gusto.
And another dieth in the bitterness of his soul, and never eateth with pleasure.
Another dies in bitterness of soul, and never tastes of good.
gleicherweise liegen sie in der Erde, und Gewürm legt sich als Decke über beide.«
Igualmente yacerán ellos en el polvo, y gusanos los cubrirán.
They shall lie down alike in the dust, and the worms shall cover them.

»Seht, ich kenne eure Gedanken wohl und die Anschläge, mit denen ihr mir Gewalt antut.
He aquí, yo conozco vuestros pensamientos, y las imaginaciones que contra mí forjáis.
Behold, I know your thoughts, and the devices which ye wrongfully imagine against me.
“Behold, I know your thoughts, the plans with which you would wrong me.
Wenn ihr sagt: ›Wo ist das Haus des Gewaltmenschen geblieben und wo das Zelt, in welchem die Frevler wohnten?‹ –
Porque decís: ¿Qué es de la casa del príncipe, y qué de la tienda de las moradas de los impíos?
For ye say, Where is the house of the prince? and where are the dwelling places of the wicked?
For you say, ‘Where is the house of the prince? Where is the tent in which the wicked lived?’
habt ihr euch denn noch nie bei den weitgereisten Leuten erkundigt, deren beweiskräftige Aussagen ihr doch nicht verwerfen könnt:
¿No habéis preguntado á los que pasan por los caminos, por cuyas señas no negaréis,
Have ye not asked them that go by the way? and do ye not know their tokens,
Haven’t you asked wayfaring men? Don’t you know their evidences,
daß am Unglückstage der Böse verschont bleibt und am Tage des (göttlichen) Zorngerichts heil davonkommt?
Que el malo es reservado para el día de la destrucción? Presentados serán en el día de las iras.
That the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.
that the evil man is reserved to the day of calamity, that they are led out to the day of wrath?
Wer hält ihm auch nur seinen Lebenswandel unverhohlen vor? Und hat er etwas verübt, wer vergilt es ihm?
¿Quién le denunciará en su cara su camino? Y de lo que él hizo, ¿quién le dará el pago?
Who shall declare his way to his face? and who shall repay him what he hath done?

Nein, man gibt ihm noch das feierliche Geleit zur Gräberstätte und hält über seinem Grabhügel noch Wache.
Porque llevado será él á los sepulcros, y en el montón permanecerá.
Yet shall he be brought to the grave, and shall remain in the tomb.
Yet he will be borne to the grave. Men will keep watch over the tomb.
Sanft liegen auf ihm die Schollen des Tales, und hinter ihm her zieht alle Welt, wie Unzählige ihm vorangegangen sind.
Los terrones del valle le serán dulces; y tras de él será llevado todo hombre, y antes de él han ido innumerables.
The clods of the valley shall be sweet unto him, and every man shall draw after him, as there are innumerable before him.

Wie mögt ihr mir da so nichtigen Trost bieten? Und eure Entgegnungen – von denen bleibt nur Treubruch übrig!«
¿Cómo pues me consoláis en vano, viniendo á parar vuestras respuestas en falacia?
How then comfort ye me in vain, seeing in your answers there remaineth falsehood?
So how can you comfort me with nonsense, because in your answers there remains only falsehood?”
