Escuchad por vida vuestra mis palabras, y arrepentíos de vuestro error.
Oid atentamente mi palabra, y sea esto vuestros consuelos.
Hear diligently my speech, and let this be your consolations.
“Listen diligently to my speech. Let this be your consolation.
Sufrid que yo también hable, y después, si os pareciere, burlaos de mis razones.
Soportadme, y yo hablaré; y después que hubiere hablado, escarneced.
Suffer me that I may speak; and after that I have spoken, mock on.
Allow me, and I also will speak. After I have spoken, mock on.
¿Por ventura mi causa o disputa es con algún hombre, para que no tenga yo razón de entristecerme?
¿Hablo yo á algún hombre? y ¿por qué no se ha de angustiar mi espíritu?
As for me, is my complaint to man? and if it were so, why should not my spirit be troubled?
As for me, is my complaint to man? Why shouldn’t I be impatient?
Miradme atentamente, y os pasmaréis, y pondréis el dedo sobre vuestra boca.

Mark me, and be astonished, and lay your hand upon your mouth.

Que aun yo mismo, cuando lo reflexiono, me asombro, y me tiemblan las carnes.

Even when I remember I am afraid, and trembling taketh hold on my flesh.
When I remember, I am troubled. Horror takes hold of my flesh.
¿Cómo es que viven los impíos, y son ensalzados, y colmados de bienes?
¿Por qué viven los impíos, y se envejecen, y aun crecen en riquezas?
Wherefore do the wicked live, become old, yea, are mighty in power?
“Why do the wicked live, become old, yes, and grow mighty in power?
Ellos contemplan alrededor suyo su numerosa descendencia; se ven rodeados de una multitud de parientes y de nietos.
Su simiente con ellos, compuesta delante de ellos; y sus renuevos delante de sus ojos.
Their seed is established in their sight with them, and their offspring before their eyes.
Their child is established with them in their sight, their offspring before their eyes.
Sus casas están seguras y en paz, y no descarga sobre ellos el azote de Dios.
Sus casas seguras de temor, ni hay azote de Dios sobre ellos.
Their houses are safe from fear, neither is the rod of God upon them.

No son estériles sus vacas, ni abortan; paren, y no abortan sus crías.

Sus chiquillos salen de sus casas como a manadas, y brincan alegres y juguetean.
Salen sus chiquitos como manada, y sus hijos andan saltando.
They send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance.

Tocan el pandero y la vihuela, y bailan al son de los instrumentos músicos.
Al son de tamboril y de cítara saltan, y se huelgan al son del órgano.
They take the timbrel and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the organ.
They sing to the tambourine and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the pipe.
Pasan en delicia los días de su vida, y en un momento bajan al sepulcro.
Gastan sus días en bien, y en un momento descienden á la sepultura.
They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment go down to the grave.
They spend their days in prosperity. In an instant they go down to Sheol.
Estos son los que dijeron a Dios: Apártate de nosotros; que no queremos saber nada de tus mandamientos.
Dicen pues á Dios: Apártate de nosotros, que no queremos el conocimiento de tus caminos.
Therefore they say unto God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways.
They tell God, ‘Depart from us, for we don’t want to know about your ways.
¿Quién es ese Omnipotente para que nos empleemos en su servicio? ¿Y qué provecho hemos de sacar de implorar su auxilio?
¿Quién es el Todopoderoso, para que le sirvamos? ¿y de qué nos aprovechará que oremos á él?
What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto him?
What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? What profit should we have, if we pray to him?’
Pero en medio de eso, los impíos no tienen la prosperidad en su mano; por tanto lejos de mí su modo de pensar.
He aquí que su bien no está en manos de ellos: el consejo de los impíos lejos esté de mí.
Lo, their good is not in their hand: the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
Behold, their prosperity is not in their hand. The counsel of the wicked is far from me.
¡Oh, cuán a menudo se apaga de un golpe la antorcha o prosperidad de los impíos, y viene sobre ellos un diluvio de males y Dios en el furor de su ira les reparte buena porción de dolores!
¡Oh cuántas veces la lámpara de los impíos es apagada, y viene sobre ellos su quebranto, y Dios en su ira les reparte dolores!
How oft is the candle of the wicked put out! and how oft cometh their destruction upon them! God distributeth sorrows in his anger.
“How often is it that the lamp of the wicked is put out, that their calamity comes on them, that God distributes sorrows in his anger?
Serán entonces como pajas expuestas al soplo del viento, y como pavesas que esparce un torbellino.
Serán como la paja delante del viento, y como el tamo que arrebata el torbellino.
They are as stubble before the wind, and as chaff that the storm carrieth away.
How often is it that they are as stubble before the wind, as chaff that the storm carries away?
Hará Dios padecer también a los hijos las penas del padre; y cuando Dios le diere su merecido entonces él caerá en la cuenta.
Dios guardará para sus hijos su violencia; y le dará su pago, para que conozca.
God layeth up his iniquity for his children: he rewardeth him, and he shall know it.
You say, ‘God lays up his iniquity for his children.’ Let him recompense it to himself, that he may know it.
Verá el impío con sus propios ojos su total ruina, y beberá el furor del Todopoderoso.
Verán sus ojos su quebranto, y beberá de la ira del Todopoderoso.
His eyes shall see his destruction, and he shall drink of the wrath of the Almighty.
Let his own eyes see his destruction. Let him drink of the wrath of the Almighty.
Porque de otro modo, ¿qué ciudado le daría la suerte de su casa después de muerto, aun cuando fuese cortado por medio el número de sus meses o años?
Porque ¿qué deleite tendrá él de su casa después de sí, siendo cortado el número de sus meses?
For what pleasure hath he in his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off in the midst?

¿Habrá quizás alguno que presuma enseñar a Dios, que es el que juzga y gobierna a los sabios y potentados?
¿Enseñará alguien á Dios sabiduría, juzgando él á los que están elevados?
Shall any teach God knowledge? seeing he judgeth those that are high.
“Shall any teach God knowledge, since he judges those who are high?
Uno muere robusto y sano, rico y feliz,
Este morirá en el vigor de su hermosura, todo quieto y pacífico.
One dieth in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet.
One dies in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet.
teniendo sus entrañas cubiertas de grasa, y llenos sus huesos del jugo de los tuétanos.
Sus colodras están llenas de leche, y sus huesos serán regados de tuétano.
His breasts are full of milk, and his bones are moistened with marrow.
His pails are full of milk. The marrow of his bones is moistened.
Otro, muere con el alma llena de amarguras y falto de toda suerte de bienes.
Y estotro morirá en amargura de ánimo, y no habiendo comido jamás con gusto.
And another dieth in the bitterness of his soul, and never eateth with pleasure.
Another dies in bitterness of soul, and never tastes of good.
Y sin embargo, ambos dormirán juntos en el polvo del sepulcro, y quedarán cubiertos de gusanos.
Igualmente yacerán ellos en el polvo, y gusanos los cubrirán.
They shall lie down alike in the dust, and the worms shall cover them.
They lie down alike in the dust. The worm covers them.
Sin duda yo estoy penetrando vuestros pensamientos y los juicios temerarios que hacéis contra mí.
He aquí, yo conozco vuestros pensamientos, y las imaginaciones que contra mí forjáis.
Behold, I know your thoughts, and the devices which ye wrongfully imagine against me.
“Behold, I know your thoughts, the plans with which you would wrong me.
Porque vosotros decís en vuestro interior: ¿Qué se hizo de la casa y familia de este Job que era antes un príncipe? ¿Y dónde están los pabellones de los impíos?
Porque decís: ¿Qué es de la casa del príncipe, y qué de la tienda de las moradas de los impíos?
For ye say, Where is the house of the prince? and where are the dwelling places of the wicked?
For you say, ‘Where is the house of the prince? Where is the tent in which the wicked lived?’
Preguntad a cualquier viajero y hallaréis que piensa lo mismo que yo;
¿No habéis preguntado á los que pasan por los caminos, por cuyas señas no negaréis,
Have ye not asked them that go by the way? and do ye not know their tokens,
Haven’t you asked wayfaring men? Don’t you know their evidences,
y es que el impío está reservado para el día de la venganza, y será conducido al día de la ira del Señor.
Que el malo es reservado para el día de la destrucción? Presentados serán en el día de las iras.
That the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.
that the evil man is reserved to the day of calamity, that they are led out to the day of wrath?
¿Quién hasta entonces osará darle en cara con su mala conducta? ¿Y quién le dará el pago del mal que hizo?
¿Quién le denunciará en su cara su camino? Y de lo que él hizo, ¿quién le dará el pago?
Who shall declare his way to his face? and who shall repay him what he hath done?
Who will declare his way to his face? Who will repay him what he has done?
Mas al cabo será llevado al sepulcro, y quedará yerto e inmóvil entre montones de cadáveres.
Porque llevado será él á los sepulcros, y en el montón permanecerá.
Yet shall he be brought to the grave, and shall remain in the tomb.
Yet he will be borne to the grave. Men will keep watch over the tomb.
Se gozarán en poseerle las arenas del Cocito; y arrastrará tras de sí a todos los hombres, y tendrá delante otros infinitos que le precedieron.
Los terrones del valle le serán dulces; y tras de él será llevado todo hombre, y antes de él han ido innumerables.
The clods of the valley shall be sweet unto him, and every man shall draw after him, as there are innumerable before him.

¿Cómo, pues, me consoláis tan en vano, cuando está demostrado que vuestras razones son contrarias a la verdad?
¿Cómo pues me consoláis en vano, viniendo á parar vuestras respuestas en falacia?
How then comfort ye me in vain, seeing in your answers there remaineth falsehood?
So how can you comfort me with nonsense, because in your answers there remains only falsehood?”
