Y RESPONDIÓ Eliphaz Temanita, y dijo:
Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,

L'homme serait-il utile à Dieu ? Non, c'est à lui-même que le sage est utile.
¿Traerá el hombre provecho á Dios, porque el sabio sea provechoso á sí mismo?
Can a man be profitable unto God, as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself?
“Can a man be profitable to God? Surely he who is wise is profitable to himself.
Est-ce un avantage pour le Puissant, que tu sois juste ? Ou y a-t-il pour lui du profit, quand tu vis dans l'intégrité ?
¿Tiene su contentamiento el Omnipotente en que tú seas justificado, ó provecho de que tú hagas perfectos tus caminos?
Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? or is it gain to him, that thou makest thy ways perfect?
Is it any pleasure to the Almighty that you are righteous? Or does it benefit him that you make your ways perfect?
Est-ce à cause de ta piété qu'il te châtie ? Qu'il entre en jugement avec toi ?
¿Castigaráte acaso, ó vendrá contigo á juicio porque te teme?
Will he reprove thee for fear of thee? will he enter with thee into judgment?
Is it for your piety that he reproves you, that he enters with you into judgment?
N'est-ce pas parce que ta méchanceté est grande, Et qu'il n'y a pas de fin à tes iniquités ?
Por cierto tu malicia es grande, y tus maldades no tienen fin.
Is not thy wickedness great? and thine iniquities infinite?
Isn’t your wickedness great? Neither is there any end to your iniquities.
Tu exigeais sans cause des gages de ton frère, Tu dépouillais les pauvres de leurs habits.
Porque sacaste prenda á tus hermanos sin causa, é hiciste desnudar las ropas de los desnudos.
For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brother for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
For you have taken pledges from your brother for nothing, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
Tu ne donnais pas de l'eau à boire à l'homme altéré, Tu refusais du pain à l'affamé.
No diste de beber agua al cansado, y detuviste el pan al hambriento.
Thou hast not given water to the weary to drink, and thou hast withholden bread from the hungry.
You haven’t given water to the weary to drink, and you have withheld bread from the hungry.
C'est à l'homme violent qu'appartenait le pays L'homme considéré en était le maître.
Empero el hombre pudiente tuvo la tierra; y habitó en ella el distinguido.
But as for the mighty man, he had the earth; and the honourable man dwelt in it.
But as for the mighty man, he had the earth. The honorable man, he lived in it.
Tu renvoyais des veuves à vide, Tu laissais briser les bras des orphelins.
Las viudas enviaste vacías, y los brazos de los huérfanos fueron quebrados.
Thou hast sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.

Voilà pourquoi des pièges t'environnent, La terreur te fait trembler soudain.
Por tanto hay lazos alrededor de ti, y te turba espanto repentino;
Therefore snares are round about thee, and sudden fear troubleth thee;
Therefore snares are around you. Sudden fear troubles you,
Ou bien, ne vois-tu pas l'obscurité Et les torrents d'eau qui te couvrent ?
O tinieblas, porque no veas; y abundancia de agua te cubre.
Or darkness, that thou canst not see; and abundance of waters cover thee.
or darkness, so that you can not see, and floods of waters cover you.
Dieu n'est-il pas aussi haut que les cieux ? Vois combien sont élevées les plus hautes des étoiles !
¿No está Dios en la altura de los cielos? Mira lo encumbrado de las estrellas, cuán elevadas están.
Is not God in the height of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are!
“Isn’t God in the heights of heaven? See the height of the stars, how high they are!
Et tu as dis : Qu'est-ce que Dieu sait ? Peut-il juger à travers l'obscurité ?
¿Y dirás tú: Qué sabe Dios? ¿cómo juzgará por medio de la oscuridad?
And thou sayest, How doth God know? can he judge through the dark cloud?
You say, ‘What does God know? Can he judge through the thick darkness?
Les nuées le cachent et l'empêchent de voir, Il se promène dans les espaces du ciel.
Las nubes son su escondedero, y no ve; y por el circuito del cielo se pasea.
Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he seeth not; and he walketh in the circuit of heaven.
Thick clouds are a covering to him, so that he doesn’t see. He walks on the vault of the sky.’
Tu veux donc rester sur le chemin d'autrefois, Où ont marché les hommes iniques,
¿Quieres tú guardar la senda antigua, que pisaron los hombres perversos?
Hast thou marked the old way which wicked men have trodden?
Will you keep the old way, which wicked men have trodden,
Qui ont été engloutis avant le temps, Et dont les fondements ont été comme un torrent qui s'écoule ;
Los cuales fueron cortados antes de tiempo, cuyo fundamento fué como un río derramado:
Which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflown with a flood:
who were snatched away before their time, whose foundation was poured out as a stream,
Qui disaient à Dieu : Retire-toi de nous ! Et : Que nous fera le Puissant ?
Que decían á Dios: Apártate de nosotros. ¿Y qué les había hecho el Omnipotente?
Which said unto God, Depart from us: and what can the Almighty do for them?
who said to God, ‘Depart from us!’ and, ‘What can the Almighty do for us?’
Et cependant, il avait rempli leurs maisons de biens... Loin de moi le conseil des méchants !
Habíales él henchido sus casas de bienes. Sea empero el consejo de ellos lejos de mí.
Yet he filled their houses with good things: but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

Les justes voient cela et s'en réjouissent, L'innocent se moque d'eux, en disant :
Verán los justos y se gozarán; y el inocente los escarnecerá, diciendo:
The righteous see it, and are glad: and the innocent laugh them to scorn.
The righteous see it, and are glad. The innocent ridicule them,
Voilà nos adversaires anéantis, Le feu a dévoré leur abondance !
Fué cortada nuestra sustancia, habiendo consumido el fuego el resto de ellos.
Whereas our substance is not cut down, but the remnant of them the fire consumeth.
saying, ‘Surely those who rose up against us are cut off. The fire has consumed their remnant.’
Accorde-toi donc avec lui et fais la paix ; C'est par là que le bonheur te reviendra.
Amístate ahora con él, y tendrás paz; y por ello te vendrá bien.
Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee.
“Acquaint yourself with him now, and be at peace. By it, good will come to you.
Reçois donc de sa bouche l'enseignement, Mets ses paroles dans ton cœur !
Toma ahora la ley de su boca, y pon sus palabras en tu corazón.
Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart.
Please receive instruction from his mouth, and lay up his words in your heart.
Si tu retournes jusqu'au Puissant, tu seras rétabli. Si tu éloignes l'iniquité de ta tente,
Si te tornares al Omnipotente, serás edificado; alejarás de tu tienda la aflicción;
If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles.
If you return to the Almighty, you will be built up, if you put away unrighteousness far from your tents.
Si tu jettes l'or dans la poussière, L'or d'Ophir parmi les cailloux des torrents,
Y tendrás más oro que tierra, y como piedras de arroyos oro de Ophir;
Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.
Lay your treasure in the dust, the gold of Ophir among the stones of the brooks.
Le Puissant sera ton or, Il sera pour toi des monceaux d'argent.
Y el Todopoderoso será tu defensa, y tendrás plata á montones.
Yea, the Almighty shall be thy defence, and thou shalt have plenty of silver.
The Almighty will be your treasure, and precious silver to you.
Oui, alors tu feras du Puissant tes délices, Tu élèveras ton visage vers Dieu.
Porque entonces te deleitarás en el Omnipotente, y alzarás á Dios tu rostro.
For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God.
For then you will delight yourself in the Almighty, and will lift up your face to God.
Tu le prieras et il t'entendra, Tu accompliras tes vœux.
Orarás á él, y él te oirá; y tú pagarás tus votos.
Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows.
You will make your prayer to him, and he will hear you. You will pay your vows.
Si tu décides quelque chose, cela te réussira ; La lumière resplendira sur ton chemin.
Determinarás asimismo una cosa, y serte ha firme; y sobre tus caminos resplandecerá luz.
Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.
You will also decree a thing, and it will be established to you. Light will shine on your ways.
Humilié, tu diras : Relèvement ! Il sauve celui dont les yeux sont baissés ;
Cuando fueren abatidos, dirás tú: Ensalzamiento habrá: y Dios salvará al humilde de ojos.
When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person.
When they cast down, you will say, ‘be lifted up.’ He will save the humble person.
Il délivre même le coupable, Qui sera délivré par la pureté de tes mains.
El libertará la isla del inocente; y por la limpieza de tus manos será librada.
He shall deliver the island of the innocent: and it is delivered by the pureness of thine hands.
He will even deliver him who is not innocent. Yes, he will be delivered through the cleanness of your hands.”
