«¿Para Dios, tiene algún valor el mísero hombre? Aun el más sabio, sólo para sí mismo vale algo.
¿Traerá el hombre provecho á Dios, porque el sabio sea provechoso á sí mismo?
Can a man be profitable unto God, as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself?
“Can a man be profitable to God? Surely he who is wise is profitable to himself.
¿Complace al Todopoderoso que tú seas justo? ¿Ganaría él algo con que fueras perfecto?
¿Tiene su contentamiento el Omnipotente en que tú seas justificado, ó provecho de que tú hagas perfectos tus caminos?
Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? or is it gain to him, that thou makest thy ways perfect?
Is it any pleasure to the Almighty that you are righteous? Or does it benefit him that you make your ways perfect?
¿Será porque eres bueno que te castiga?
¿Castigaráte acaso, ó vendrá contigo á juicio porque te teme?
Will he reprove thee for fear of thee? will he enter with thee into judgment?
Is it for your piety that he reproves you, that he enters with you into judgment?
De ningún modo. ¡Es por tu maldad! Tus pecados son innumerables.
Por cierto tu malicia es grande, y tus maldades no tienen fin.
Is not thy wickedness great? and thine iniquities infinite?
Isn’t your wickedness great? Neither is there any end to your iniquities.
»Por ejemplo, seguramente te habrás negado a prestarle dinero a tus amigos menesterosos a menos que te dejaran su ropa en prenda. ¡Los habrás dejado desnudos!
Porque sacaste prenda á tus hermanos sin causa, é hiciste desnudar las ropas de los desnudos.
For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brother for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
For you have taken pledges from your brother for nothing, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
Seguramente le habrás negado agua al sediento y pan al hambriento.
No diste de beber agua al cansado, y detuviste el pan al hambriento.
Thou hast not given water to the weary to drink, and thou hast withholden bread from the hungry.
You haven’t given water to the weary to drink, and you have withheld bread from the hungry.
Pero a los hombres importantes sin duda les habrás dado cuanto querían, y habrás permitido al rico vivir en donde se le antojara.
Empero el hombre pudiente tuvo la tierra; y habitó en ella el distinguido.
But as for the mighty man, he had the earth; and the honourable man dwelt in it.

¡Habrás echado a las viudas sin ayudarles, y quebrado los brazos de los huérfanos!
Las viudas enviaste vacías, y los brazos de los huérfanos fueron quebrados.

Por eso es que ahora estás rodeado de trampas, de repentinos temores, de tinieblas y oleadas de terror.
Por tanto hay lazos alrededor de ti, y te turba espanto repentino;
Therefore snares are round about thee, and sudden fear troubleth thee;

O tinieblas, porque no veas; y abundancia de agua te cubre.
Or darkness, that thou canst not see; and abundance of waters cover thee.

»¡Qué grande es Dios, más alto que los cielos y más elevado que las estrellas!
¿No está Dios en la altura de los cielos? Mira lo encumbrado de las estrellas, cuán elevadas están.
Is not God in the height of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are!
“Isn’t God in the heights of heaven? See the height of the stars, how high they are!
Pero entonces respondes: ¡Por eso no puede ver lo que hago! ¿Cómo podrá juzgar a través de la oscuridad impenetrable?
¿Y dirás tú: Qué sabe Dios? ¿cómo juzgará por medio de la oscuridad?
And thou sayest, How doth God know? can he judge through the dark cloud?
You say, ‘What does God know? Can he judge through the thick darkness?
Porque espesas nubes giran en torno suyo y no puede vernos. Está allá lejos, recorriendo el cielo de uno a otro extremo.
Las nubes son su escondedero, y no ve; y por el circuito del cielo se pasea.
Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he seeth not; and he walketh in the circuit of heaven.
Thick clouds are a covering to him, so that he doesn’t see. He walks on the vault of the sky.’
»¿No te das cuenta de que los que marchan por antiguos caminos de pecado son arrebatados en su juventud; y la base de su vida es arrasada para siempre?
¿Quieres tú guardar la senda antigua, que pisaron los hombres perversos?
Hast thou marked the old way which wicked men have trodden?
Will you keep the old way, which wicked men have trodden,

Los cuales fueron cortados antes de tiempo, cuyo fundamento fué como un río derramado:
Which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflown with a flood:
who were snatched away before their time, whose foundation was poured out as a stream,
Pues ellos le dijeron a Dios: “¡Vete Dios! ¿Qué puedes hacer tú por nosotros?”.
Que decían á Dios: Apártate de nosotros. ¿Y qué les había hecho el Omnipotente?
Which said unto God, Depart from us: and what can the Almighty do for them?
who said to God, ‘Depart from us!’ and, ‘What can the Almighty do for us?’
Pero han olvidado que fue él quien llenó sus hogares de bienes. Yo no me dejaré llevar por sus malos consejos.
Habíales él henchido sus casas de bienes. Sea empero el consejo de ellos lejos de mí.
Yet he filled their houses with good things: but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

»Y ahora los justos verán la destrucción de los impíos; la risa de los inocentes matará de vergüenza a los malvados.
Verán los justos y se gozarán; y el inocente los escarnecerá, diciendo:

“¡Miren!”, dirán. “¡Nuestros enemigos han sido destruidos en el fuego!”.
Fué cortada nuestra sustancia, habiendo consumido el fuego el resto de ellos.
Whereas our substance is not cut down, but the remnant of them the fire consumeth.
saying, ‘Surely those who rose up against us are cut off. The fire has consumed their remnant.’
»¡Deja de disputar con Dios! Ponte de acuerdo con él y al fin tendrás paz. Su favor te rodeará sólo con reconocer tu error.
Amístate ahora con él, y tendrás paz; y por ello te vendrá bien.
Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee.
“Acquaint yourself with him now, and be at peace. By it, good will come to you.
Escucha sus instrucciones y guárdalas en tu corazón.
Toma ahora la ley de su boca, y pon sus palabras en tu corazón.
Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart.
Please receive instruction from his mouth, and lay up his words in your heart.
Si regresas a Dios y arreglas todo lo malo que hay en tu hogar, serás restaurado.
Si te tornares al Omnipotente, serás edificado; alejarás de tu tienda la aflicción;
If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles.
If you return to the Almighty, you will be built up, if you put away unrighteousness far from your tents.
Si renuncias a tu codicia y arrojas tu oro,
Y tendrás más oro que tierra, y como piedras de arroyos oro de Ophir;
Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.
Lay your treasure in the dust, the gold of Ophir among the stones of the brooks.
el Todopoderoso mismo será tu tesoro; él será para ti como preciosa plata.
Y el Todopoderoso será tu defensa, y tendrás plata á montones.
Yea, the Almighty shall be thy defence, and thou shalt have plenty of silver.
The Almighty will be your treasure, and precious silver to you.
Entonces te deleitarás en el Todopoderoso, y esperarás en Dios.
Porque entonces te deleitarás en el Omnipotente, y alzarás á Dios tu rostro.
For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God.
For then you will delight yourself in the Almighty, and will lift up your face to God.
Orarás, y él te escuchará, y tú cumplirás cuanto le hayas prometido.
Orarás á él, y él te oirá; y tú pagarás tus votos.
Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows.
You will make your prayer to him, and he will hear you. You will pay your vows.
¡Todo lo que desees se cumplirá! Y la luz del cielo iluminará tu camino delante de ti.
Determinarás asimismo una cosa, y serte ha firme; y sobre tus caminos resplandecerá luz.
Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.
You will also decree a thing, and it will be established to you. Light will shine on your ways.
Si te atacan y te derriban, sabrás que hay uno que te volverá a levantar. Sí, él salvará al humilde;
Cuando fueren abatidos, dirás tú: Ensalzamiento habrá: y Dios salvará al humilde de ojos.
When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person.
When they cast down, you will say, ‘be lifted up.’ He will save the humble person.
y aun a los pecadores ayudará mediante tus manos puras».
El libertará la isla del inocente; y por la limpieza de tus manos será librada.
He shall deliver the island of the innocent: and it is delivered by the pureness of thine hands.
He will even deliver him who is not innocent. Yes, he will be delivered through the cleanness of your hands.”
