2«¿Para Dios, tiene algún valor el mísero hombre? Aun el más sabio, sólo para sí mismo vale algo.
3¿Complace al Todopoderoso que tú seas justo? ¿Ganaría él algo con que fueras perfecto?
4¿Será porque eres bueno que te castiga?
5De ningún modo. ¡Es por tu maldad! Tus pecados son innumerables.
6»Por ejemplo, seguramente te habrás negado a prestarle dinero a tus amigos menesterosos a menos que te dejaran su ropa en prenda. ¡Los habrás dejado desnudos!
7Seguramente le habrás negado agua al sediento y pan al hambriento.
8Pero a los hombres importantes sin duda les habrás dado cuanto querían, y habrás permitido al rico vivir en donde se le antojara.
9¡Habrás echado a las viudas sin ayudarles, y quebrado los brazos de los huérfanos!
10Por eso es que ahora estás rodeado de trampas, de repentinos temores, de tinieblas y oleadas de terror.

12»¡Qué grande es Dios, más alto que los cielos y más elevado que las estrellas!
13Pero entonces respondes: ¡Por eso no puede ver lo que hago! ¿Cómo podrá juzgar a través de la oscuridad impenetrable?
14Porque espesas nubes giran en torno suyo y no puede vernos. Está allá lejos, recorriendo el cielo de uno a otro extremo.
15»¿No te das cuenta de que los que marchan por antiguos caminos de pecado son arrebatados en su juventud; y la base de su vida es arrasada para siempre?

17Pues ellos le dijeron a Dios: “¡Vete Dios! ¿Qué puedes hacer tú por nosotros?”.
18Pero han olvidado que fue él quien llenó sus hogares de bienes. Yo no me dejaré llevar por sus malos consejos.
19»Y ahora los justos verán la destrucción de los impíos; la risa de los inocentes matará de vergüenza a los malvados.
20“¡Miren!”, dirán. “¡Nuestros enemigos han sido destruidos en el fuego!”.
21»¡Deja de disputar con Dios! Ponte de acuerdo con él y al fin tendrás paz. Su favor te rodeará sólo con reconocer tu error.
22Escucha sus instrucciones y guárdalas en tu corazón.
23Si regresas a Dios y arreglas todo lo malo que hay en tu hogar, serás restaurado.
24Si renuncias a tu codicia y arrojas tu oro,
25el Todopoderoso mismo será tu tesoro; él será para ti como preciosa plata.
26Entonces te deleitarás en el Todopoderoso, y esperarás en Dios.
27Orarás, y él te escuchará, y tú cumplirás cuanto le hayas prometido.
28¡Todo lo que desees se cumplirá! Y la luz del cielo iluminará tu camino delante de ti.
29Si te atacan y te derriban, sabrás que hay uno que te volverá a levantar. Sí, él salvará al humilde;
30y aun a los pecadores ayudará mediante tus manos puras».

1Y RESPONDIÓ Eliphaz Temanita, y dijo:
2¿Traerá el hombre provecho á Dios, porque el sabio sea provechoso á sí mismo?
3¿Tiene su contentamiento el Omnipotente en que tú seas justificado, ó provecho de que tú hagas perfectos tus caminos?
4¿Castigaráte acaso, ó vendrá contigo á juicio porque te teme?
5Por cierto tu malicia es grande, y tus maldades no tienen fin.
6Porque sacaste prenda á tus hermanos sin causa, é hiciste desnudar las ropas de los desnudos.
7No diste de beber agua al cansado, y detuviste el pan al hambriento.
8Empero el hombre pudiente tuvo la tierra; y habitó en ella el distinguido.
9Las viudas enviaste vacías, y los brazos de los huérfanos fueron quebrados.
10Por tanto hay lazos alrededor de ti, y te turba espanto repentino;
11O tinieblas, porque no veas; y abundancia de agua te cubre.
12¿No está Dios en la altura de los cielos? Mira lo encumbrado de las estrellas, cuán elevadas están.
13¿Y dirás tú: Qué sabe Dios? ¿cómo juzgará por medio de la oscuridad?
14Las nubes son su escondedero, y no ve; y por el circuito del cielo se pasea.
15¿Quieres tú guardar la senda antigua, que pisaron los hombres perversos?
16Los cuales fueron cortados antes de tiempo, cuyo fundamento fué como un río derramado:
17Que decían á Dios: Apártate de nosotros. ¿Y qué les había hecho el Omnipotente?
18Habíales él henchido sus casas de bienes. Sea empero el consejo de ellos lejos de mí.
19Verán los justos y se gozarán; y el inocente los escarnecerá, diciendo:
20Fué cortada nuestra sustancia, habiendo consumido el fuego el resto de ellos.
21Amístate ahora con él, y tendrás paz; y por ello te vendrá bien.
22Toma ahora la ley de su boca, y pon sus palabras en tu corazón.
23Si te tornares al Omnipotente, serás edificado; alejarás de tu tienda la aflicción;
24Y tendrás más oro que tierra, y como piedras de arroyos oro de Ophir;
25Y el Todopoderoso será tu defensa, y tendrás plata á montones.
26Porque entonces te deleitarás en el Omnipotente, y alzarás á Dios tu rostro.
27Orarás á él, y él te oirá; y tú pagarás tus votos.
28Determinarás asimismo una cosa, y serte ha firme; y sobre tus caminos resplandecerá luz.
29Cuando fueren abatidos, dirás tú: Ensalzamiento habrá: y Dios salvará al humilde de ojos.
30El libertará la isla del inocente; y por la limpieza de tus manos será librada.

1Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,
2Can a man be profitable unto God, as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself?
3Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? or is it gain to him, that thou makest thy ways perfect?
4Will he reprove thee for fear of thee? will he enter with thee into judgment?
5Is not thy wickedness great? and thine iniquities infinite?
6For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brother for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
7Thou hast not given water to the weary to drink, and thou hast withholden bread from the hungry.
8But as for the mighty man, he had the earth; and the honourable man dwelt in it.
9Thou hast sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.
10Therefore snares are round about thee, and sudden fear troubleth thee;
11Or darkness, that thou canst not see; and abundance of waters cover thee.
12Is not God in the height of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are!
13And thou sayest, How doth God know? can he judge through the dark cloud?
14Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he seeth not; and he walketh in the circuit of heaven.
15Hast thou marked the old way which wicked men have trodden?
16Which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflown with a flood:
17Which said unto God, Depart from us: and what can the Almighty do for them?
18Yet he filled their houses with good things: but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
19The righteous see it, and are glad: and the innocent laugh them to scorn.
20Whereas our substance is not cut down, but the remnant of them the fire consumeth.
21Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee.
22Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart.
23If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles.
24Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.
25Yea, the Almighty shall be thy defence, and thou shalt have plenty of silver.
26For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God.
27Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows.
28Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.
29When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person.
30He shall deliver the island of the innocent: and it is delivered by the pureness of thine hands.

1Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered,
2“Can a man be profitable to God? Surely he who is wise is profitable to himself.
3Is it any pleasure to the Almighty that you are righteous? Or does it benefit him that you make your ways perfect?
4Is it for your piety that he reproves you, that he enters with you into judgment?
5Isn’t your wickedness great? Neither is there any end to your iniquities.
6For you have taken pledges from your brother for nothing, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
7You haven’t given water to the weary to drink, and you have withheld bread from the hungry.
8But as for the mighty man, he had the earth. The honorable man, he lived in it.
9You have sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.
10Therefore snares are around you. Sudden fear troubles you,
11or darkness, so that you can not see, and floods of waters cover you.
12“Isn’t God in the heights of heaven? See the height of the stars, how high they are!
13You say, ‘What does God know? Can he judge through the thick darkness?
14Thick clouds are a covering to him, so that he doesn’t see. He walks on the vault of the sky.’
15Will you keep the old way, which wicked men have trodden,
16who were snatched away before their time, whose foundation was poured out as a stream,
17who said to God, ‘Depart from us!’ and, ‘What can the Almighty do for us?’
18Yet he filled their houses with good things, but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
19The righteous see it, and are glad. The innocent ridicule them,
20saying, ‘Surely those who rose up against us are cut off. The fire has consumed their remnant.’
21“Acquaint yourself with him now, and be at peace. By it, good will come to you.
22Please receive instruction from his mouth, and lay up his words in your heart.
23If you return to the Almighty, you will be built up, if you put away unrighteousness far from your tents.
24Lay your treasure in the dust, the gold of Ophir among the stones of the brooks.
25The Almighty will be your treasure, and precious silver to you.
26For then you will delight yourself in the Almighty, and will lift up your face to God.
27You will make your prayer to him, and he will hear you. You will pay your vows.
28You will also decree a thing, and it will be established to you. Light will shine on your ways.
29When they cast down, you will say, ‘be lifted up.’ He will save the humble person.
30He will even deliver him who is not innocent. Yes, he will be delivered through the cleanness of your hands.”
