y hasta el burro del pobre y del huérfano roban. Para obtener un préstamo, las viudas pobres tienen que entregar en prenda lo poco que poseen.

Men groan from out of the city, and the soul of the wounded crieth out: yet God layeth not folly to them.

»Los malvados son rebeldes contra la luz, y no conocen el derecho ni el bien.
Ellos son los que, rebeldes á la luz, nunca conocieron sus caminos, ni estuvieron en sus veredas.
They are of those that rebel against the light; they know not the ways thereof, nor abide in the paths thereof.

Son asesinos que madrugan para matar al pobre y al menesteroso. Por la noche son ladrones y adúlteros, en espera de las sombras, pues entonces, piensan: “Nadie me ve”, van enmascarados para que nadie los conozca.
A la luz se levanta el matador, mata al pobre y al necesitado, y de noche es como ladrón.
The murderer rising with the light killeth the poor and needy, and in the night is as a thief.

Allanan las casas de noche y duermen de día; no les gusta la luz.

Porque la mañana es á todos ellos como sombra de muerte; si son conocidos, terrores de sombra de muerte los toman.
For the morning is to them even as the shadow of death: if one know them, they are in the terrors of the shadow of death.

«¡Pero cuán velozmente desaparecen de la tierra! Todo lo que poseen está maldito. No dejan bienes en herencia a sus hijos.
Son instables más que la superficie de las aguas; su porción es maldita en la tierra; no andarán por el camino de las viñas.
He is swift as the waters; their portion is cursed in the earth: he beholdeth not the way of the vineyards.

La muerte consume a los pecadores como la sequía y el calor consumen la nieve.
La sequía y el calor arrebatan las aguas de la nieve; y el sepulcro á los pecadores.
Drought and heat consume the snow waters: so doth the grave those which have sinned.

Hasta la madre del pecador lo olvidará. Los gusanos harán banquete con la carne del malvado. Nadie volverá a recordarlo. Porque los malos son quebrantados como el árbol en la tormenta,

The womb shall forget him; the worm shall feed sweetly on him; he shall be no more remembered; and wickedness shall be broken as a tree.

porque despojaron a los que no tienen hijos que los defiendan; negaron ayuda a las viudas menesterosas.
A la mujer estéril que no paría, afligió; y á la viuda nunca hizo bien.
He evil entreateth the barren that beareth not: and doeth not good to the widow.
He devours the barren who don’t bear. He shows no kindness to the widow.
Pero a veces parece que con su poder Dios ayuda a los ricos y les da vida cuando todos los demás perecen. Dios les da confianza y vigor, y en muchas formas los auxilia.
Mas á los fuertes adelantó con su poder: levantóse, y no se da por segura la vida.
He draweth also the mighty with his power: he riseth up, and no man is sure of life.
Yet God preserves the mighty by his power. He rises up who has no assurance of life.

Le dieron á crédito, y se afirmó: sus ojos están sobre los caminos de ellos.
Though it be given him to be in safety, whereon he resteth; yet his eyes are upon their ways.
God gives them security, and they rest in it. His eyes are on their ways.
Pero aunque hoy estén muy engrandecidos, en un instante desaparecerán como los demás, segados como espigas de trigo.
Fueron ensalzados por un poco, mas desaparecen, y son abatidos como cada cual: serán encerrados, y cortados como cabezas de espigas.
They are exalted for a little while, but are gone and brought low; they are taken out of the way as all other, and cut off as the tops of the ears of corn.

¿Puede alguien decir que no es así? ¿Quién puede demostrar que miento y afirmar que estoy equivocado?».
Y si no, ¿quién me desmentirá ahora, ó reducirá á nada mis palabras?
And if it be not so now, who will make me a liar, and make my speech nothing worth?
If it isn’t so now, who will prove me a liar, and make my speech worth nothing?”
