Y VOLVIÓ Job á tomar su propósito, y dijo:

Oh! fossi io pure come a' mesi di prima, Come al tempo che Iddio mi guardava!
¡Quién me tornase como en los meses pasados, como en los días que Dios me guardaba,

Quando egli faceva rilucere la sua lampana sopra il mio capo, E quando io camminava al suo lume, per mezzo le tenebre;
Cuando hacía resplandecer su candela sobre mi cabeza, á la luz de la cual yo caminaba en la oscuridad;
When his candle shined upon my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness;

Come io era al tempo della mia giovanezza, Mentre il consiglio di Dio governava il mio tabernacolo;
Como fué en los días de mi mocedad, cuando el secreto de Dios estaba en mi tienda;
As I was in the days of my youth, when the secret of God was upon my tabernacle;
as I was in my prime, when the friendship of God was in my tent,
Mentre l'Onnipotente era ancora meco, E i miei famigli mi erano d'intorno;
Cuando aun el Omnipotente estaba conmigo, y mis hijos alrededor de mí;
When the Almighty was yet with me, when my children were about me;

Mentre io lavava i miei passi nel burro, E le rocce versavano presso di me de' ruscelli d'olio.
Cuando lavaba yo mis caminos con manteca, y la piedra me derramaba ríos de aceite!
When I washed my steps with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil;
when my steps were washed with butter, and the rock poured out streams of oil for me,
Quando io andava fuori alla porta per la città, O mi faceva porre il mio seggio in su la piazza,
Cuando salía á la puerta á juicio, y en la plaza hacía preparar mi asiento,
When I went out to the gate through the city, when I prepared my seat in the street!

I fanciulli, veggendomi, si nascondevano; E i vecchi si levavano, e stavano in piè;

La mia radice era aperta alle acque, E la rugiada era tutta la notte in su i miei rami.
Mi raíz estaba abierta junto á las aguas, y en mis ramas permanecía el rocío.
My root was spread out by the waters, and the dew lay all night upon my branch.

La mia gloria si rinnovava in me, E il mio arco si rinforzava in mano mia.
Mi honra se renovaba en mí, y mi arco se corroboraba en mi mano.
My glory was fresh in me, and my bow was renewed in my hand.

Altri mi ascoltava, ed aspettava che io avessi parlato; E taceva al mio consiglio.
Oíanme, y esperaban; y callaban á mi consejo.
Unto me men gave ear, and waited, and kept silence at my counsel.
“Men listened to me, waited, and kept silence for my counsel.
Dopo che io avea parlato, niuno replicava; E i miei ragionamenti stillavano sopra loro.
Tras mi palabra no replicaban, y mi razón destilaba sobre ellos.
After my words they spake not again; and my speech dropped upon them.
