Y VOLVIÓ Job á tomar su propósito, y dijo:
Moreover Job continued his parable, and said,

"Ó, quem me dera eu fosse o que era nos meses passados quando Deus cuidava de mim,
¡Quién me tornase como en los meses pasados, como en los días que Dios me guardaba,
Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me;
“Oh that I were as in the months of old, as in the days when God watched over me;
quando a Sua luz brilhava sobre a minha cabeça, e quando eu andava pelas trevas guiado pela Sua luz.
Cuando hacía resplandecer su candela sobre mi cabeza, á la luz de la cual yo caminaba en la oscuridad;
When his candle shined upon my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness;
when his lamp shone on my head, and by his light I walked through darkness,
Ó, quem me dera fosse como era nos dias da minha colheita, quando a amizade de Deus estava sobre a minha tenda,
Como fué en los días de mi mocedad, cuando el secreto de Dios estaba en mi tienda;
As I was in the days of my youth, when the secret of God was upon my tabernacle;
as I was in my prime, when the friendship of God was in my tent,
quando o Todo Poderoso ainda estava comigo e meus filhos estavam à minha volta,
Cuando aun el Omnipotente estaba conmigo, y mis hijos alrededor de mí;
When the Almighty was yet with me, when my children were about me;
when the Almighty was yet with me, and my children were around me,
quando meus caminhos eram cobertos de nata e a rocha derramava sobre mim rios de azeite!
Cuando lavaba yo mis caminos con manteca, y la piedra me derramaba ríos de aceite!
When I washed my steps with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil;
when my steps were washed with butter, and the rock poured out streams of oil for me,
Quando eu ia ao portal da cidade, quando me sentava na praça da cidade,
Cuando salía á la puerta á juicio, y en la plaza hacía preparar mi asiento,
When I went out to the gate through the city, when I prepared my seat in the street!

os jovens me viam e mantinham distância de mim por respeito e os idosos se levantavam e ficavam de pé diante de mim.
Los mozos me veían, y se escondían; y los viejos se levantaban, y estaban en pie;
The young men saw me, and hid themselves: and the aged arose, and stood up.

Os príncipes paravam suas falas quando eu chegava; eles colocavam as mãos sobre suas bocas.

As vozes dos nobres eram silenciadas e as suas línguas grudavam no céu da boca.
La voz de los principales se ocultaba, y su lengua se pegaba á su paladar:

Porque, depois que os seus ouvidos me ouviam, eles me abençoavam; depois que os seus olhos me viam, eles testemunhavam a meu respeito e me aprovavam;
Cuando los oídos que me oían, me llamaban bienaventurado, y los ojos que me veían, me daban testimonio:
When the ear heard me, then it blessed me; and when the eye saw me, it gave witness to me:

pois eu resgatava o pobre quando ele clamava e também os órfão que não tinham ninguém para o ajudar.
Porque libraba al pobre que gritaba, y al huérfano que carecía de ayudador.
Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him.

A bênção daquele que estava prestes a morrer vinha sobre mim e eu fazia com que o coração da viúva cantasse de alegria.
La bendición del que se iba á perder venía sobre mí; y al corazón de la viuda daba alegría.
The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy.

Eu vestia a justiça e ela me cobria; a minha justiça era como um manto e um turbante.
Vestíame de justicia, y ella me vestía como un manto; y mi toca era juicio.
I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my judgment was as a robe and a diadem.

Eu era olhos dos cegos; pés para os coxos;

e pai dos necessitados. Eu examinava a causa até mesmo dos que eu não conhecia.
A los menesterosos era padre; y de la causa que no entendía, me informaba con diligencia:
I was a father to the poor: and the cause which I knew not I searched out.

Eu quebrava as mandíbulas do corrupto; arrancava a vítima dentre os seus dentes.
Y quebraba los colmillos del inicuo, y de sus dientes hacía soltar la presa.
And I brake the jaws of the wicked, and plucked the spoil out of his teeth.

E eu falava: 'morrerei no meu ninho; multiplicarei os meus dias como os grãos de areia.
Y decía yo: En mi nido moriré, y como arena multiplicaré días.
Then I said, I shall die in my nest, and I shall multiply my days as the sand.
Then I said, ‘I will die in my own house, I will count my days as the sand.
As minhas raízes se espalharam pelas águas, o orvalho ficava sobre os meus ramos a noite inteira.
Mi raíz estaba abierta junto á las aguas, y en mis ramas permanecía el rocío.
My root was spread out by the waters, and the dew lay all night upon my branch.
My root is spread out to the waters. The dew lies all night on my branch.
A honra em mim era sempre nova e o arco da minha força estava sempre novo em minha mão.
Mi honra se renovaba en mí, y mi arco se corroboraba en mi mano.
My glory was fresh in me, and my bow was renewed in my hand.
My glory is fresh in me. My bow is renewed in my hand.’
Os homens me escutavam; eles esperavam por mim; ficavam em silêncio para ouvir o meu conselho.
Oíanme, y esperaban; y callaban á mi consejo.
Unto me men gave ear, and waited, and kept silence at my counsel.
“Men listened to me, waited, and kept silence for my counsel.
Depois que eu acabava de falar, eles não falavam mais; o meu discurso caía como água sobre eles.
Tras mi palabra no replicaban, y mi razón destilaba sobre ellos.
After my words they spake not again; and my speech dropped upon them.
After my words they didn’t speak again. My speech fell on them.
Eles sempre esperavam por mim como esperavam pela chuva; eles abriam largamente as suas bocas para beberem as minhas palavras, como fariam para a chuva tardia.
Y esperábanme como á la lluvia, y abrían su boca como á la lluvia tardía.
And they waited for me as for the rain; and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain.

Eu lhes sorria quando menos esperavam; eles não rejeitavam a luz do meu rosto.
Si me reía con ellos, no lo creían: y no abatían la luz de mi rostro.
If I laughed on them, they believed it not; and the light of my countenance they cast not down.
I smiled on them when they had no confidence. They didn’t reject the light of my face.
Eu selecionava os caminhos para eles e me sentava como o chefe deles; eu vivia como rei no seu exército, como alguém que consola os enlutados.
Calificaba yo el camino de ellos, y sentábame en cabecera; y moraba como rey en el ejército, como el que consuela llorosos.
I chose out their way, and sat chief, and dwelt as a king in the army, as one that comforteth the mourners.
