Y VOLVIÓ Job á tomar su propósito, y dijo:
Moreover Job continued his parable, and said,

«¡Cómo extraño aquellos tiempos en que Dios cuidaba de mí,
¡Quién me tornase como en los meses pasados, como en los días que Dios me guardaba,
Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me;
“Oh that I were as in the months of old, as in the days when God watched over me;
cuando iluminaba el camino ante mis pasos y yo marchaba seguro entre las tinieblas!
Cuando hacía resplandecer su candela sobre mi cabeza, á la luz de la cual yo caminaba en la oscuridad;
When his candle shined upon my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness;
when his lamp shone on my head, and by his light I walked through darkness,
»¡Si volvieran mis años de juventud, cuando la amistad de Dios reinaba en mi hogar;
Como fué en los días de mi mocedad, cuando el secreto de Dios estaba en mi tienda;
As I was in the days of my youth, when the secret of God was upon my tabernacle;
as I was in my prime, when the friendship of God was in my tent,
cuando el Todopoderoso aún estaba conmigo y mis hijos en torno mío;
Cuando aun el Omnipotente estaba conmigo, y mis hijos alrededor de mí;
When the Almighty was yet with me, when my children were about me;
when the Almighty was yet with me, and my children were around me,
cuando mis planes prosperaban y hasta de la roca manaba aceite de olivas para mí!
Cuando lavaba yo mis caminos con manteca, y la piedra me derramaba ríos de aceite!
When I washed my steps with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil;
when my steps were washed with butter, and the rock poured out streams of oil for me,
»Aquellos eran los tiempos en que yo salía a la puerta de la ciudad y tomaba mi sitio entre los ancianos honorables.
Cuando salía á la puerta á juicio, y en la plaza hacía preparar mi asiento,
When I went out to the gate through the city, when I prepared my seat in the street!

Los jóvenes me veían y se apartaban, y hasta los ancianos se levantaban respetuosos a mi llegada.
Los mozos me veían, y se escondían; y los viejos se levantaban, y estaban en pie;

Los príncipes se mantenían silenciosos y se tapaban la boca con la mano.

Los más altos dignatarios de la ciudad guardaban silencio.
La voz de los principales se ocultaba, y su lengua se pegaba á su paladar:
The nobles held their peace, and their tongue cleaved to the roof of their mouth.

Todos se regocijaban al oír mis palabras. Hablaban bien de mí cuantos me veían.
Cuando los oídos que me oían, me llamaban bienaventurado, y los ojos que me veían, me daban testimonio:
When the ear heard me, then it blessed me; and when the eye saw me, it gave witness to me:
For when the ear heard me, then it blessed me, and when the eye saw me, it commended me,
Pues yo, como juez honrado ayudaba a los pobres en sus necesidades y a los huérfanos que carecían de defensor.
Porque libraba al pobre que gritaba, y al huérfano que carecía de ayudador.
Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him.

Ayudaba a quienes estaban a punto de perecer, y ellos me bendecían. Y yo ponía en el corazón de las viudas un canto de alegría.
La bendición del que se iba á perder venía sobre mí; y al corazón de la viuda daba alegría.
The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy.

¡Todo cuanto yo hacía era justo y honorable, porque la rectitud era mi vestidura!
Vestíame de justicia, y ella me vestía como un manto; y mi toca era juicio.

Fui ojos para el ciego y pies para el cojo.

Fui padre de los pobres y me encargué de que hasta a los extranjeros se les hiciera justicia.
A los menesterosos era padre; y de la causa que no entendía, me informaba con diligencia:
I was a father to the poor: and the cause which I knew not I searched out.
I was a father to the needy. I researched the cause of him whom I didn’t know.
Quebranté los colmillos de los impíos opresores y los obligué a soltar a sus víctimas.
Y quebraba los colmillos del inicuo, y de sus dientes hacía soltar la presa.
And I brake the jaws of the wicked, and plucked the spoil out of his teeth.
I broke the jaws of the unrighteous and plucked the prey out of his teeth.
»Yo pensaba: “Sin duda moriré en paz en mi nido, tras larga y buena vida”.
Y decía yo: En mi nido moriré, y como arena multiplicaré días.
Then I said, I shall die in my nest, and I shall multiply my days as the sand.
Then I said, ‘I will die in my own house, I will count my days as the sand.
Pues cuanto yo hacía prosperaba. Toda la noche había rocío en mis campos y los regaba.
Mi raíz estaba abierta junto á las aguas, y en mis ramas permanecía el rocío.
My root was spread out by the waters, and the dew lay all night upon my branch.
My root is spread out to the waters. The dew lies all night on my branch.
Constantemente se me tributaban nuevos honores, y mis capacidades eran refrescadas y renovadas continuamente.
Mi honra se renovaba en mí, y mi arco se corroboraba en mi mano.
My glory was fresh in me, and my bow was renewed in my hand.
My glory is fresh in me. My bow is renewed in my hand.’
Todos me escuchaban y atendían mi consejo, y callaban hasta que yo hablara.
Oíanme, y esperaban; y callaban á mi consejo.
Unto me men gave ear, and waited, and kept silence at my counsel.
“Men listened to me, waited, and kept silence for my counsel.
Y luego que yo hablaba no replicaban; porque mi consejo les satisfacía.
Tras mi palabra no replicaban, y mi razón destilaba sobre ellos.
After my words they spake not again; and my speech dropped upon them.
After my words they didn’t speak again. My speech fell on them.
Ansiaban mis palabras como los que en la sequía ansían la lluvia. Esperaban ansiosos y con la boca abierta.
Y esperábanme como á la lluvia, y abrían su boca como á la lluvia tardía.
And they waited for me as for the rain; and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain.
They waited for me as for the rain. Their mouths drank as with the spring rain.
Cuando estaban desalentados, yo les sonreía y eso los animaba y les levantaba el espíritu.
Si me reía con ellos, no lo creían: y no abatían la luz de mi rostro.
If I laughed on them, they believed it not; and the light of my countenance they cast not down.
I smiled on them when they had no confidence. They didn’t reject the light of my face.
Les decía lo que debían hacer, y los corregía como jefe de ellos, o como un rey instruye a su ejército, y como quien consuela a los dolientes.
Calificaba yo el camino de ellos, y sentábame en cabecera; y moraba como rey en el ejército, como el que consuela llorosos.
I chose out their way, and sat chief, and dwelt as a king in the army, as one that comforteth the mourners.
