Y VOLVIÓ Job á tomar su propósito, y dijo:

“Como tenho saudade do meu passado, do tempo em que Deus me protegia!
¡Quién me tornase como en los meses pasados, como en los días que Dios me guardaba,
Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me;
“Oh that I were as in the months of old, as in the days when God watched over me;
Que saudade do tempo em que Deus, com a sua luz, iluminava o meu caminho, e eu andava em segurança em meio às trevas!
Cuando hacía resplandecer su candela sobre mi cabeza, á la luz de la cual yo caminaba en la oscuridad;
When his candle shined upon my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness;
when his lamp shone on my head, and by his light I walked through darkness,
Que saudade do tempo em que eu era forte e cheio de saúde, quando Deus era meu amigo e abençoava minha família!
Como fué en los días de mi mocedad, cuando el secreto de Dios estaba en mi tienda;
As I was in the days of my youth, when the secret of God was upon my tabernacle;
as I was in my prime, when the friendship of God was in my tent,
Quem me dera voltar ao tempo em que o Todo-poderoso estava do meu lado e eu tinha a companhia alegre de meus filhos,
Cuando aun el Omnipotente estaba conmigo, y mis hijos alrededor de mí;
When the Almighty was yet with me, when my children were about me;
when the Almighty was yet with me, and my children were around me,
o tempo em que os meus caminhos se embebiam em nata, o tempo em que eu era capaz de conseguir azeite de uma pedreira!
Cuando lavaba yo mis caminos con manteca, y la piedra me derramaba ríos de aceite!
When I washed my steps with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil;
when my steps were washed with butter, and the rock poured out streams of oil for me,
“Naquele tempo eu tinha um lugar reservado entre os cidadãos influentes e dignos de respeito;
Cuando salía á la puerta á juicio, y en la plaza hacía preparar mi asiento,
When I went out to the gate through the city, when I prepared my seat in the street!

quando os jovens me viam chegando, levantavam-se e abriam caminho; os velhos ficavam em pé, em sinal de respeito;

até as autoridades deixavam de lado os assuntos importantes e se calavam quando eu chegava.

Homens nobres e importantes paravam de falar e não diziam mais nada.
La voz de los principales se ocultaba, y su lengua se pegaba á su paladar:

Minhas palavras eram a alegria da cidade, e todos me conheciam como um homem honesto e justo,
Cuando los oídos que me oían, me llamaban bienaventurado, y los ojos que me veían, me daban testimonio:

pois eu ajudava os pobres que estavam sendo explorados e os órfãos que não tinham alguém para lhes dar abrigo.

Em todas as minhas ações eu procurava ser justo; fiz da justiça a minha roupa de todo dia.

“Então eu pensava: ‘Minha morte chegará tranquilamente, em casa, depois de uma vida longa, e bem vivida.

Then I said, I shall die in my nest, and I shall multiply my days as the sand.
Then I said, ‘I will die in my own house, I will count my days as the sand.
Serei como uma árvore de raízes longas, que chegam até as águas; o orvalho cairá sobre mim, e meus ramos serão sempre verdes.
Mi raíz estaba abierta junto á las aguas, y en mis ramas permanecía el rocío.
My root was spread out by the waters, and the dew lay all night upon my branch.

Receberei muitas honras, e a minha força será sempre renovada’.
Mi honra se renovaba en mí, y mi arco se corroboraba en mi mano.
My glory was fresh in me, and my bow was renewed in my hand.

“Quem me conhecia procurava sempre ouvir meus conselhos, e todos se calavam para me escutar.
Oíanme, y esperaban; y callaban á mi consejo.
Unto me men gave ear, and waited, and kept silence at my counsel.
“Men listened to me, waited, and kept silence for my counsel.
Quando havia alguma dúvida ou discussão, eu sempre tinha a última palavra, pois todos aceitavam minhas opiniões.
Tras mi palabra no replicaban, y mi razón destilaba sobre ellos.
After my words they spake not again; and my speech dropped upon them.
After my words they didn’t speak again. My speech fell on them.
Todos esperavam pelos meus conselhos como a terra seca espera pela chuva da primavera.
Y esperábanme como á la lluvia, y abrían su boca como á la lluvia tardía.
And they waited for me as for the rain; and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain.

Quando alguém estava triste e desanimado, o meu sorriso lhe devolvia a alegria e a disposição de viver.
Si me reía con ellos, no lo creían: y no abatían la luz de mi rostro.
If I laughed on them, they believed it not; and the light of my countenance they cast not down.
I smiled on them when they had no confidence. They didn’t reject the light of my face.
Para o meu povo eu era um guia que indicava o caminho, um rei que comandava os exércitos, um chefe que organizava e um amigo que consolava os que choram”.
Calificaba yo el camino de ellos, y sentábame en cabecera; y moraba como rey en el ejército, como el que consuela llorosos.
