Se desperdician por la necesidad de comida, mordiendo la tierra seca; Su única esperanza de vida está en la tierra baldía.

Por causa de la pobreza y del hambre andaban solos; huían á la soledad, á lugar tenebroso, asolado y desierto.

For want and famine they were solitary; fleeing into the wilderness in former time desolate and waste.

They are gaunt from lack and famine. They gnaw the dry ground, in the gloom of waste and desolation.
