But now they that are younger than I have me in derision, whose fathers I would have disdained to have set with the dogs of my flock.

¿De qué sirve la fuerza de sus manos para mí? toda fuerza se ha ido de ellos.

Yea, whereto might the strength of their hands profit me, in whom old age was perished?

Se desperdician por la necesidad de comida, mordiendo la tierra seca; Su única esperanza de vida está en la tierra baldía.
Por causa de la pobreza y del hambre andaban solos; huían á la soledad, á lugar tenebroso, asolado y desierto.
For want and famine they were solitary; fleeing into the wilderness in former time desolate and waste.
They are gaunt from lack and famine. They gnaw the dry ground, in the gloom of waste and desolation.

A mi diestra se levantaron los jóvenes, empujaron mis pies, se pusieron en orden y alzaron sus caminos de destrucción contra mí:
A la mano derecha se levantaron los jóvenes; empujaron mis pies, y sentaron contra mí las vías de su ruina.
Upon my right hand rise the youth; they push away my feet, and they raise up against me the ways of their destruction.
On my right hand rise the rabble. They thrust aside my feet. They cast their ways of destruction up against me.
Han destruido mis caminos, se benefician a causa de mi destrucción; aprovechan que nadie los detiene.
Mi senda desbarataron, aprovecháronse de mi quebrantamiento, contra los cuales no hubo ayudador.
They mar my path, they set forward my calamity, they have no helper.
They mar my path. They promote my destruction without anyone’s help.
A través de un agujero en la pared como un portillo, se avalanchan contra mi.
Vinieron como por portillo ancho, revolviéronse á mi calamidad.
They came upon me as a wide breaking in of waters: in the desolation they rolled themselves upon me.
As through a wide breach they come. They roll themselves in amid the ruin.
Me ha venido él temor. Mi esperanza se ha ido como el viento, y mi bienestar como una nube.
Hanse revuelto turbaciones sobre mí; combatieron como viento mi alma, y mi salud pasó como nube.
Terrors are turned upon me: they pursue my soul as the wind: and my welfare passeth away as a cloud.
Terrors have turned on me. They chase my honor as the wind. My welfare has passed away as a cloud.
Pero ahora mi alma se vuelve agua en mí, me superan días de problemas.
Y ahora mi alma está derramada en mí; días de aflicción me han aprehendido.
And now my soul is poured out upon me; the days of affliction have taken hold upon me.
“Now my soul is poured out within me. Days of affliction have taken hold of me.
El dolor penetra mis huesos, y no me dieron descanso; No hay fin a mis dolores.
De noche taladra sobre mí mis huesos, y mis pulsos no reposan.
My bones are pierced in me in the night season: and my sinews take no rest.
In the night season my bones are pierced in me, and the pains that gnaw me take no rest.
Con gran fuerza desfigura mi ropa, me ciñe como cuello de mi túnica.
Con la grande copia de materia mi vestidura está demudada; cíñeme como el cuello de mi túnica.
By the great force of my disease is my garment changed: it bindeth me about as the collar of my coat.
My garment is disfigured by great force. It binds me about as the collar of my tunic.
En verdad, Dios me ha rebajado hasta la tierra, y me he vuelto como el polvo.
Derribóme en el lodo, y soy semejante al polvo y á la ceniza.
He hath cast me into the mire, and I am become like dust and ashes.
He has cast me into the mire. I have become like dust and ashes.
No respondes a mi clamor, y no tomas nota de mi oración.
Clamo á ti, y no me oyes; preséntome, y no me atiendes.
I cry unto thee, and thou dost not hear me: I stand up, and thou regardest me not.
I cry to you, and you do not answer me. I stand up, and you gaze at me.
Te has vuelto cruel conmigo; la fuerza de tu mano me aborrece.
Haste tornado cruel para mí: con la fortaleza de tu mano me amenazas.
Thou art become cruel to me: with thy strong hand thou opposest thyself against me.
You have turned to be cruel to me. With the might of your hand you persecute me.
Levantándome, me haces ir en las alas del viento; Estoy deshecho por la tormenta.
Levantásteme, é hicísteme cabalgar sobre el viento, y disolviste mi sustancia.
Thou liftest me up to the wind; thou causest me to ride upon it, and dissolvest my substance.
You lift me up to the wind, and drive me with it. You dissolve me in the storm.
Porque estoy seguro de que me llevarás a la muerte y al lugar de reunión ordenado para todos los vivos.
Porque yo conozco que me reduces á la muerte; y á la casa determinada á todo viviente.
For I know that thou wilt bring me to death, and to the house appointed for all living.

¿No se ha extendido mi mano para ayudar a los pobres? ¿No he sido para él un salvador en su apuro?

Howbeit he will not stretch out his hand to the grave, though they cry in his destruction.
“However doesn’t one stretch out a hand in his fall? Or in his calamity therefore cry for help?
¿No he llorado por los oprimidos? ¿Y no estaba mi alma triste por el necesitado?
¿No lloré yo al afligido? Y mi alma ¿no se entristeció sobre el menesteroso?
Did not I weep for him that was in trouble? was not my soul grieved for the poor?
Didn’t I weep for him who was in trouble? Wasn’t my soul grieved for the needy?
Cuando buscaba el bien, vino el mal; Estaba esperando la luz, y se oscureció.

When I looked for good, then evil came unto me: and when I waited for light, there came darkness.

Mis sentimientos están fuertemente conmovidos, y no me dan descanso; Los días de angustia me han sobrepasado.

Y mi arpa se ha convertido en luto, y el sonido de mi flauta en el ruido de lamento.

My harp also is turned to mourning, and my organ into the voice of them that weep.
