Pero ahora, se burlan de mí los que son más jóvenes que yo, a cuyos antepasados yo rehusé dejar con los perros de mi rebaño,
MAS ahora los más mozos de días que yo, se ríen de mí; cuyos padres yo desdeñara ponerlos con los perros de mi ganado.
But now they that are younger than I have me in derision, whose fathers I would have disdained to have set with the dogs of my flock.
“But now those who are younger than I have me in derision, whose fathers I considered unworthy to put with my sheep dogs.
pues ¿para qué me servía la fuerza de sus manos, si su edad madura y su vigor perecieron?
Porque ¿para qué yo habría menester la fuerza de sus manos, en los cuales había perecido con el tiempo?
Yea, whereto might the strength of their hands profit me, in whom old age was perished?
Of what use is the strength of their hands to me, men in whom ripe age has perished?
Están anémicos a causa de la miseria y el hambre. Roen la tierra reseca y huyen a la desolación, al lugar tenebroso y despoblado.
Por causa de la pobreza y del hambre andaban solos; huían á la soledad, á lugar tenebroso, asolado y desierto.
For want and famine they were solitary; fleeing into the wilderness in former time desolate and waste.
They are gaunt from lack and famine. They gnaw the dry ground, in the gloom of waste and desolation.
Arrancan malvas entre los matorrales y se alimentan con raíces de enebro.
Que cogían malvas entre los arbustos, y raíces de enebro para calentarse.
Who cut up mallows by the bushes, and juniper roots for their meat.
They pluck salt herbs by the bushes. The roots of the broom tree are their food.
Están expulsados de la comunidad. Contra ellos gritan como a ladrones.
Eran echados de entre las gentes, y todos les daban grita como al ladrón.
They were driven forth from among men, (they cried after them as after a thief;)
They are driven out from among men. They cry after them as after a thief,
Viven en barrancos espantosos, en cuevas de la tierra y en las peñas.
Habitaban en las barrancas de los arroyos, en las cavernas de la tierra, y en las rocas.
To dwell in the clifts of the valleys, in caves of the earth, and in the rocks.
so that they live in frightful valleys, and in holes of the earth and of the rocks.
Aúllan entre los matorrales y se apiñan bajo las ortigas.
Bramaban entre las matas, y se reunían debajo de las espinas.
Among the bushes they brayed; under the nettles they were gathered together.
They bray among the bushes. They are gathered together under the nettles.
Generación de necios, generación sin nombre, echados a latigazos de esta tierra.
Hijos de viles, y hombres sin nombre, más bajos que la misma tierra.
They were children of fools, yea, children of base men: they were viler than the earth.
They are children of fools, yes, children of wicked men. They were flogged out of the land.
¡Y ahora soy su motivo de mofa y les sirvo de refrán!
Y ahora yo soy su canción, y he sido hecho su refrán.
And now am I their song, yea, I am their byword.
“Now I have become their song. Yes, I am a byword to them.
Me repugnan y se alejan de mí. De mi presencia no refrenan su saliva.
Abomínanme, aléjanse de mí, y aun de mi rostro no detuvieron su saliva.
They abhor me, they flee far from me, and spare not to spit in my face.
They abhor me, they stand aloof from me, and don’t hesitate to spit in my face.
Porque Él aflojó la cuerda de mi arco y me afligió, ellos se quitaron el freno frente a mí.
Porque Dios desató mi cuerda, y me afligió, por eso se desenfrenaron delante de mi rostro.
Because he hath loosed my cord, and afflicted me, they have also let loose the bridle before me.
For he has untied his cord, and afflicted me; and they have thrown off restraint before me.
A mi derecha se levanta el populacho, enredan mis pies, me preparan caminos destructivos,
A la mano derecha se levantaron los jóvenes; empujaron mis pies, y sentaron contra mí las vías de su ruina.
Upon my right hand rise the youth; they push away my feet, and they raise up against me the ways of their destruction.
On my right hand rise the rabble. They thrust aside my feet. They cast their ways of destruction up against me.
desbaratan mi senda, se aprovechan de mi calamidad y nadie los restringe.
Mi senda desbarataron, aprovecháronse de mi quebrantamiento, contra los cuales no hubo ayudador.
They mar my path, they set forward my calamity, they have no helper.
They mar my path. They promote my destruction without anyone’s help.
Vienen como abridores de amplia brecha en el muro y en medio de la ruinosa tormenta se abalanzan contra mi calamidad.
Vinieron como por portillo ancho, revolviéronse á mi calamidad.
They came upon me as a wide breaking in of waters: in the desolation they rolled themselves upon me.
As through a wide breach they come. They roll themselves in amid the ruin.
Los terrores me asaltan de repente, combatieron mi honor como el viento y mi prosperidad desapareció como nube.
Hanse revuelto turbaciones sobre mí; combatieron como viento mi alma, y mi salud pasó como nube.
Terrors are turned upon me: they pursue my soul as the wind: and my welfare passeth away as a cloud.
Terrors have turned on me. They chase my honor as the wind. My welfare has passed away as a cloud.
Ahora mi alma se me derrama. Los días de aflicción se apoderaron de mí.
Y ahora mi alma está derramada en mí; días de aflicción me han aprehendido.
And now my soul is poured out upon me; the days of affliction have taken hold upon me.
“Now my soul is poured out within me. Days of affliction have taken hold of me.
La noche me taladra los huesos y los dolores que me corroen no descansan.
De noche taladra sobre mí mis huesos, y mis pulsos no reposan.
My bones are pierced in me in the night season: and my sinews take no rest.
In the night season my bones are pierced in me, and the pains that gnaw me take no rest.
Una fuerza poderosa desfiguró mi ropa y me aprieta como el cuello de mi abrigo.
Con la grande copia de materia mi vestidura está demudada; cíñeme como el cuello de mi túnica.
By the great force of my disease is my garment changed: it bindeth me about as the collar of my coat.
My garment is disfigured by great force. It binds me about as the collar of my tunic.
Me derribó en el lodo. Quedé como el polvo y la ceniza.
Derribóme en el lodo, y soy semejante al polvo y á la ceniza.
He hath cast me into the mire, and I am become like dust and ashes.

Clamo a Ti, y no me respondes. Me presento, y Tú no me atiendes.

I cry unto thee, and thou dost not hear me: I stand up, and thou regardest me not.
I cry to you, and you do not answer me. I stand up, and you gaze at me.
Te volviste cruel conmigo y me persigues con la fuerza de tu mano.
Haste tornado cruel para mí: con la fortaleza de tu mano me amenazas.
Thou art become cruel to me: with thy strong hand thou opposest thyself against me.
You have turned to be cruel to me. With the might of your hand you persecute me.
Me levantas, me haces cabalgar sobre el viento y me deshaces en la tormenta.
Levantásteme, é hicísteme cabalgar sobre el viento, y disolviste mi sustancia.
Thou liftest me up to the wind; thou causest me to ride upon it, and dissolvest my substance.
You lift me up to the wind, and drive me with it. You dissolve me in the storm.
Porque yo sé que me conduces a la muerte, a la casa de reunión para todos los vivientes.
Porque yo conozco que me reduces á la muerte; y á la casa determinada á todo viviente.
For I know that thou wilt bring me to death, and to the house appointed for all living.

¿Sin embargo no extiendes tu mano al que está sobre una pila de ruinas o en su desastre, y por tanto pide socorro?
Mas él no extenderá la mano contra el sepulcro; ¿clamarán los sepultados cuando él los quebrantare?
Howbeit he will not stretch out his hand to the grave, though they cry in his destruction.
“However doesn’t one stretch out a hand in his fall? Or in his calamity therefore cry for help?
¿No lloré por el afligido? ¿No tuvo compasión mi alma del menesteroso?
¿No lloré yo al afligido? Y mi alma ¿no se entristeció sobre el menesteroso?
Did not I weep for him that was in trouble? was not my soul grieved for the poor?
Didn’t I weep for him who was in trouble? Wasn’t my soul grieved for the needy?
Pero cuando esperaba el bien, me vino el mal. Cuando esperaba luz, me vino oscuridad.
Cuando esperaba yo el bien, entonces vino el mal; y cuando esperaba luz, la oscuridad vino.
When I looked for good, then evil came unto me: and when I waited for light, there came darkness.

Mis órganos internos se agitan y no reposan. Me confrontan días de aflicción.
Mis entrañas hierven, y no reposan; días de aflicción me han sobrecogido.
My bowels boiled, and rested not: the days of affliction prevented me.
My heart is troubled, and doesn’t rest. Days of affliction have come on me.
Ando ennegrecido, y no por el sol. Me levanto en la congregación y pido ayuda.

I went mourning without the sun: I stood up, and I cried in the congregation.

Soy hermano de chacales y compañero de avestruces.
He venido á ser hermano de los dragones, y compañero de los buhos.

Mi piel ennegrecida se me cae, y mis huesos arden de calor.
Mi piel está denegrida sobre mí, y mis huesos se secaron con ardentía.
My skin is black upon me, and my bones are burned with heat.
My skin grows black and peels from me. My bones are burned with heat.
Por tanto, mi arpa se convirtió en lamento, y mi flauta es la voz de los que lloran.
Y hase tornado mi arpa en luto, y mi órgano en voz de lamentadores.
My harp also is turned to mourning, and my organ into the voice of them that weep.
Therefore my harp has turned to mourning, and my pipe into the voice of those who weep.
