MAS ahora los más mozos de días que yo, se ríen de mí; cuyos padres yo desdeñara ponerlos con los perros de mi ganado.
But now they that are younger than I have me in derision, whose fathers I would have disdained to have set with the dogs of my flock.

E a che m’avrebbe servito la forza delle lor mani? Gente incapace a raggiungere l’età matura,
Porque ¿para qué yo habría menester la fuerza de sus manos, en los cuales había perecido con el tiempo?
Yea, whereto might the strength of their hands profit me, in whom old age was perished?
Of what use is the strength of their hands to me, men in whom ripe age has perished?
smunta dalla miseria e dalla fame, ridotta a brucare il deserto, la terra da tempo nuda e desolata,
Por causa de la pobreza y del hambre andaban solos; huían á la soledad, á lugar tenebroso, asolado y desierto.
For want and famine they were solitary; fleeing into the wilderness in former time desolate and waste.
They are gaunt from lack and famine. They gnaw the dry ground, in the gloom of waste and desolation.

They were driven forth from among men, (they cried after them as after a thief;)

Hijos de viles, y hombres sin nombre, más bajos que la misma tierra.
They were children of fools, yea, children of base men: they were viler than the earth.

And now am I their song, yea, I am their byword.

Mi aborrono, mi fuggono, non si trattengono dallo sputarmi in faccia.
Abomínanme, aléjanse de mí, y aun de mi rostro no detuvieron su saliva.
They abhor me, they flee far from me, and spare not to spit in my face.
They abhor me, they stand aloof from me, and don’t hesitate to spit in my face.
Non han più ritegno, m’umiliano, rompono ogni freno in mia presenza.
Porque Dios desató mi cuerda, y me afligió, por eso se desenfrenaron delante de mi rostro.
Because he hath loosed my cord, and afflicted me, they have also let loose the bridle before me.
For he has untied his cord, and afflicted me; and they have thrown off restraint before me.
Questa genia si leva alla mia destra, m’incalzano, e si appianano le vie contro di me per distruggermi.
A la mano derecha se levantaron los jóvenes; empujaron mis pies, y sentaron contra mí las vías de su ruina.
Upon my right hand rise the youth; they push away my feet, and they raise up against me the ways of their destruction.
On my right hand rise the rabble. They thrust aside my feet. They cast their ways of destruction up against me.
Hanno sovvertito il mio cammino, lavorano alla mia ruina, essi che nessuno vorrebbe soccorrere!
Mi senda desbarataron, aprovecháronse de mi quebrantamiento, contra los cuales no hubo ayudador.
They mar my path, they set forward my calamity, they have no helper.
They mar my path. They promote my destruction without anyone’s help.
S’avanzano come per un’ampia breccia, si precipitano innanzi in mezzo alle ruine.
Vinieron como por portillo ancho, revolviéronse á mi calamidad.
They came upon me as a wide breaking in of waters: in the desolation they rolled themselves upon me.
As through a wide breach they come. They roll themselves in amid the ruin.
Terrori mi si rovesciano addosso; l’onor mio è portato via come dal vento, è passata come una nube la mia felicità.
Hanse revuelto turbaciones sobre mí; combatieron como viento mi alma, y mi salud pasó como nube.
Terrors are turned upon me: they pursue my soul as the wind: and my welfare passeth away as a cloud.
Terrors have turned on me. They chase my honor as the wind. My welfare has passed away as a cloud.
E ora l’anima mia si strugge in me, m’hanno còlto i giorni dell’afflizione.
Y ahora mi alma está derramada en mí; días de aflicción me han aprehendido.
And now my soul is poured out upon me; the days of affliction have taken hold upon me.
“Now my soul is poured out within me. Days of affliction have taken hold of me.
La notte mi trafigge, mi stacca l’ossa, e i dolori che mi rodono non hanno posa.
De noche taladra sobre mí mis huesos, y mis pulsos no reposan.
My bones are pierced in me in the night season: and my sinews take no rest.
In the night season my bones are pierced in me, and the pains that gnaw me take no rest.
Per la gran violenza del mio male la mia veste si sforma, mi si serra addosso come la tunica.
Con la grande copia de materia mi vestidura está demudada; cíñeme como el cuello de mi túnica.
By the great force of my disease is my garment changed: it bindeth me about as the collar of my coat.
My garment is disfigured by great force. It binds me about as the collar of my tunic.
Iddio m’ha gettato nel fango, e rassomiglio alla polvere e alla cenere.
Derribóme en el lodo, y soy semejante al polvo y á la ceniza.
He hath cast me into the mire, and I am become like dust and ashes.

Io grido a te, e tu non mi rispondi; ti sto dinanzi, e tu mi stai a considerare!

Levantásteme, é hicísteme cabalgar sobre el viento, y disolviste mi sustancia.
Thou liftest me up to the wind; thou causest me to ride upon it, and dissolvest my substance.
You lift me up to the wind, and drive me with it. You dissolve me in the storm.
Giacché, lo so, tu mi meni alla morte, alla casa di convegno di tutti i viventi.
Porque yo conozco que me reduces á la muerte; y á la casa determinada á todo viviente.
For I know that thou wilt bring me to death, and to the house appointed for all living.

Ma chi sta per perire non protende la mano? e nell’angoscia sua non grida al soccorso?

My skin is black upon me, and my bones are burned with heat.

La mia cetra non dà più che accenti di lutto, e la mia zampogna voce di pianto.
Y hase tornado mi arpa en luto, y mi órgano en voz de lamentadores.
My harp also is turned to mourning, and my organ into the voice of them that weep.
