Mas ahora hacen burla de mí unos mozalbetes, a cuyos padres me hubiera desdeñado de ponerlos con los mastines de mis rebaños;

But now they that are younger than I have me in derision, whose fathers I would have disdained to have set with the dogs of my flock.

cuya fuerza y trabajo de sus manos estimaba yo en nada, y eran considerados por indignos aun de la misma vida;
Porque ¿para qué yo habría menester la fuerza de sus manos, en los cuales había perecido con el tiempo?
Yea, whereto might the strength of their hands profit me, in whom old age was perished?
Of what use is the strength of their hands to me, men in whom ripe age has perished?
muertos de necesidad y de hambre, que andaban buscando por el desierto, algo que poder roer; traspillados de pura calamidad y miseria;
Por causa de la pobreza y del hambre andaban solos; huían á la soledad, á lugar tenebroso, asolado y desierto.
For want and famine they were solitary; fleeing into the wilderness in former time desolate and waste.
They are gaunt from lack and famine. They gnaw the dry ground, in the gloom of waste and desolation.
y comían hierbas y cortezas de árboles y se sustentaban con raíces de enebro.

Semejantes cosas iban buscando por los valles, y hallando alguna corrían a cogerla con algazara.
Eran echados de entre las gentes, y todos les daban grita como al ladrón.

Habitaban en los barrancos de los torrentes, y en las cavernas de la tierra, y entre las breñas.

Hijos de gente insensata y grosera, y que no se atreven a aparecer en el mundo.

Pues yo he venido a ser ahora el asunto de sus cantares, y el objeto de sus escarnios.

Abominan de mí; al verme se apartan lejos, y no reparan en escupirme en la cara.

They abhor me, they flee far from me, and spare not to spit in my face.

Porque abrió Dios su aljaba, y me hirió, y puso el freno en mi boca.

Because he hath loosed my cord, and afflicted me, they have also let loose the bridle before me.

En la flor de mi prosperidad se levantó luego contra mí un tropel de calamidades, que me derribaron por tierra, y echándoseme encima, como una inundación me han oprimido.
A la mano derecha se levantaron los jóvenes; empujaron mis pies, y sentaron contra mí las vías de su ruina.
Upon my right hand rise the youth; they push away my feet, and they raise up against me the ways of their destruction.
On my right hand rise the rabble. They thrust aside my feet. They cast their ways of destruction up against me.
Me han cortado todos los caminos, y armándome asechanzas han prevalecido contra mí; sin que haya habido quien me ayudase.
Mi senda desbarataron, aprovecháronse de mi quebrantamiento, contra los cuales no hubo ayudador.
They mar my path, they set forward my calamity, they have no helper.
They mar my path. They promote my destruction without anyone’s help.
Como sitiadores furiosos, roto el muro, y forzada la puerta; así se han arrojado sobre mí, y cebado en mis miserias.
Vinieron como por portillo ancho, revolviéronse á mi calamidad.
They came upon me as a wide breaking in of waters: in the desolation they rolled themselves upon me.
As through a wide breach they come. They roll themselves in amid the ruin.
He quedado reducido a la nada; tú, oh Dios mío, has arrebatado como viento o torbellino, todo lo que yo más amaba, y mi prosperidad ha pasado como una nube.
Hanse revuelto turbaciones sobre mí; combatieron como viento mi alma, y mi salud pasó como nube.
Terrors are turned upon me: they pursue my soul as the wind: and my welfare passeth away as a cloud.
Terrors have turned on me. They chase my honor as the wind. My welfare has passed away as a cloud.
Y ahora está mi alma derritiéndose de congoja dentro de sí misma, viendo que los desastres se han apoderado de mí.

And now my soul is poured out upon me; the days of affliction have taken hold upon me.

Durante la noche taladran mis huesos los dolores, y los gusanos que me roen, no duermen ni descansan.
De noche taladra sobre mí mis huesos, y mis pulsos no reposan.
My bones are pierced in me in the night season: and my sinews take no rest.
In the night season my bones are pierced in me, and the pains that gnaw me take no rest.
Es tanta la muchedumbre de éstos, que van consumiendo hasta mi vestido; y me ciñen y rodean, como al cuello el cabezón de la túnica.
Con la grande copia de materia mi vestidura está demudada; cíñeme como el cuello de mi túnica.
By the great force of my disease is my garment changed: it bindeth me about as the collar of my coat.

Soy tratado como lodo, y asemejado al polvo y a la ceniza.

Bien sé que me has de entregar en poder de la muerte, la cual es el paradero de todos los vivientes.

Verdad es que tú no extiendes tu mano para consumirlos enteramente; pues cuando estuvieren derribados, tú mismo los salvarás.

Howbeit he will not stretch out his hand to the grave, though they cry in his destruction.

Yo en otro tiempo lloraba con el que se hallaba atribulado, y mi alma se compadecía del pobre.

Did not I weep for him that was in trouble? was not my soul grieved for the poor?
Didn’t I weep for him who was in trouble? Wasn’t my soul grieved for the needy?
Esperaba por eso bienes, y me han sobrevenido males; aguardaba luz, y he quedado cubierto de tinieblas.

Mi cítara se ha convertido en llanto, y en voces lúgubres mis instrumentos músicos.
Y hase tornado mi arpa en luto, y mi órgano en voz de lamentadores.
My harp also is turned to mourning, and my organ into the voice of them that weep.
