J’avais fait un accord avec mes yeux ; et comment aurais-je regardé une vierge ?

HICE pacto con mis ojos: ¿cómo pues había yo de pensar en virgen?

I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?

Car quelle part Dieu m’aurait-il faite d’en haut, et quel héritage le Tout-Puissant m’aurait-il envoyé des cieux ?

Porque ¿qué galardón me daría de arriba Dios, y qué heredad el Omnipotente de las alturas?

For what portion of God is there from above? and what inheritance of the Almighty from on high?

La calamité n’est-elle pas pour le pervers, et l’adversité pour ceux qui commettent l’iniquité ?

¿No hay quebrantamiento para el impío, y extrañamiento para los que obran iniquidad?

Is not destruction to the wicked? and a strange punishment to the workers of iniquity?

Is it not calamity to the unrighteous, and disaster to the workers of iniquity?

Ne voit-il pas toute ma conduite, et ne compte-t-il pas tous mes pas ?

¿No ve él mis caminos, y cuenta todos mis pasos?

Doth not he see my ways, and count all my steps?

Si j’ai marché dans le mensonge, et si mon pied s’est hâté pour tromper,

Si anduve con mentira, y si mi pie se apresuró á engaño,

If I have walked with vanity, or if my foot hath hasted to deceit;

Que Dieu me pèse dans des balances justes, et il reconnaîtra mon intégrité.

Péseme Dios en balanzas de justicia, y conocerá mi integridad.

Let me be weighed in an even balance, that God may know mine integrity.

Si mes pas se sont détournés de la voie, et si mon cœur a suivi mes yeux, et si quelque souillure s’est attachée à mes mains,

Si mis pasos se apartaron del camino, y si mi corazón se fué tras mis ojos, y si algo se apegó á mis manos,

If my step hath turned out of the way, and mine heart walked after mine eyes, and if any blot hath cleaved to mine hands;

Que je sème et qu’un autre mange, et que mes rejetons soient déracinés !

Siembre yo, y otro coma, y mis verduras sean arrancadas.

Then let me sow, and let another eat; yea, let my offspring be rooted out.

Si mon cœur a été séduit par quelque femme, et si j’ai fait le guet à la porte de mon prochain,

Si fué mi corazón engañado acerca de mujer, y si estuve acechando á la puerta de mi prójimo:

If mine heart have been deceived by a woman, or if I have laid wait at my neighbour’s door;

Que ma femme broie le grain pour un autre, et que d’autres se penchent sur elle !

Muela para otro mi mujer, y sobre ella otros se encorven.

Then let my wife grind unto another, and let others bow down upon her.

Car c’est là une méchanceté préméditée, une iniquité punie par les juges.

Porque es maldad é iniquidad, que han de castigar los jueces.

For this is an heinous crime; yea, it is an iniquity to be punished by the judges.

C’est un feu qui dévore jusqu’à pleine destruction, qui eût ruiné tous mes biens dans leur racine.

Porque es fuego que devoraría hasta el sepulcro, y desarraigaría toda mi hacienda.

Si j’ai méprisé le droit de mon serviteur ou de ma servante, quand ils ont eu des contestations avec moi,

Si hubiera tenido en poco el derecho de mi siervo y de mi sierva, cuando ellos pleitearan conmigo,

If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me;

“If I have despised the cause of my male servant or of my female servant, when they contended with me,

Et que ferais-je, quand Dieu se lèvera, et quand il demandera compte, que lui répondrais-je ?

¿Qué haría yo cuando Dios se levantase? y cuando él visitara, ¿qué le respondería yo?

What then shall I do when God riseth up? and when he visiteth, what shall I answer him?

Celui qui m’a fait dans le sein de ma mère, ne l’a-t-il pas fait aussi ? Un même créateur ne nous a-t-il pas formés dans le sein maternel ?

El que en el vientre me hizo á mí, ¿no lo hizo á él? ¿y no nos dispuso uno mismo en la matriz?

Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?

Si j’ai refusé aux pauvres leur demande, si j’ai laissé se consumer les yeux de la veuve,

Si estorbé el contento de los pobres, é hice desfallecer los ojos de la viuda;

If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail;

Si j’ai mangé seul mon morceau, et si l’orphelin n’en a point mangé,

Y si comí mi bocado solo, y no comió de él el huérfano;

Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten thereof;

Certes, dès ma jeunesse, il a grandi près de moi comme près d’un père, et dès le sein de ma mère, j’ai été le guide de la veuve,

(Porque desde mi mocedad creció conmigo como con padre, y desde el vientre de mi madre fuí guía de la viuda;)

(For from my youth he was brought up with me, as with a father, and I have guided her from my mother’s womb;)

Si j’ai vu un homme périr faute de vêtement, et le pauvre manquer de couverture ;

Si he visto que pereciera alguno sin vestido, y al menesteroso sin cobertura;

If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering;

if I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or that the needy had no covering;

Si ses reins ne m’ont pas béni, et s’il n’a pas été réchauffé par la toison de mes agneaux ;

Si no me bendijeron sus lomos, y del vellón de mis ovejas se calentaron;

If his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

if his heart hasn’t blessed me, if he hasn’t been warmed with my sheep’s fleece;

Si j’ai levé ma main contre l’orphelin, parce que je me voyais appuyé à la porte ;

Si alcé contra el huérfano mi mano, aunque viese que me ayudarían en la puerta;

If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate:

if I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, because I saw my help in the gate;

Que mon épaule tombe de ma nuque, et que mon bras soit cassé et séparé de l’os !

Mi espalda se caiga de mi hombro, y mi brazo sea quebrado de mi canilla.

Then let mine arm fall from my shoulder blade, and mine arm be broken from the bone.

Car la frayeur serait sur moi avec la calamité de Dieu, et je ne pourrais pas subsister devant sa majesté.

Porque temí el castigo de Dios, contra cuya alteza yo no tendría poder.

For destruction from God was a terror to me, and by reason of his highness I could not endure.

For calamity from God is a terror to me. Because of his majesty, I can do nothing.

Si j’ai mis dans l’or ma confiance, et si j’ai dit à l’or fin : Tu es ma sécurité ;

Si puse en oro mi esperanza, y dije al oro: Mi confianza eres tú;

If I have made gold my hope, or have said to the fine gold, Thou art my confidence;

“If I have made gold my hope, and have said to the fine gold, ‘You are my confidence;’

Si je me suis réjoui de ce que ma fortune était grande, et de ce que ma main avait beaucoup acquis ;

Si me alegré de que mi hacienda se multiplicase, y de que mi mano hallase mucho;

If I rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because mine hand had gotten much;

If I have rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because my hand had gotten much;

Si, voyant le soleil briller et la lune s’avancer magnifique,

Si he mirado al sol cuando resplandecía, y á la luna cuando iba hermosa,

If I beheld the sun when it shined, or the moon walking in brightness;

if I have seen the sun when it shined, or the moon moving in splendor,

Mon cœur a été secrètement séduit, et si ma main a envoyé des baisers

Y mi corazón se engañó en secreto, y mi boca besó mi mano:

And my heart hath been secretly enticed, or my mouth hath kissed my hand:

and my heart has been secretly enticed, and my hand threw a kiss from my mouth;

(Ce qui est aussi une iniquité punie par le juge, car c’est un reniement du Dieu d’en haut);

Esto también fuera maldad juzgada; porque habría negado al Dios soberano.

This also were an iniquity to be punished by the judge: for I should have denied the God that is above.

Si je me suis réjoui du malheur de mon ennemi, si j’ai sauté de joie quand le mal l’a atteint

Si me alegré en el quebrantamiento del que me aborrecía, y me regocijé cuando le halló el mal;

If I rejoiced at the destruction of him that hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him:

“If I have rejoiced at the destruction of him who hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him

(Je n’ai pas permis à ma langue de pécher en demandant sa mort dans des malédictions);

(Que ni aun entregué al pecado mi paladar, pidiendo maldición para su alma;)

Neither have I suffered my mouth to sin by wishing a curse to his soul.

(I have certainly not allowed my mouth to sin by asking his life with a curse);

Si les gens de ma maison n’ont pas dit : "Où y a-t-il quelqu’un qui n’ait été rassasié de sa viande ? "

Cuando mis domésticos decían: ¡Quién nos diese de su carne! nunca nos hartaríamos.

If the men of my tabernacle said not, Oh that we had of his flesh! we cannot be satisfied.

if the men of my tent have not said, ‘Who can find one who has not been filled with his meat?’

(L’étranger ne passait pas la nuit dehors ; j’ouvrais ma porte au voyageur);

El extranjero no tenía fuera la noche; mis puertas abría al caminante.

The stranger did not lodge in the street: but I opened my doors to the traveller.

(the foreigner has not camped in the street, but I have opened my doors to the traveler);

Si j’ai caché, comme Adam, mes fautes ; si j’ai enfermé mon crime dans mon sein,

Si encubrí, como los hombres mis prevaricaciones, escondiendo en mi seno mi iniquidad;

If I covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding mine iniquity in my bosom:

if like Adam I have covered my transgressions, by hiding my iniquity in my heart,

Parce que je craignais la foule et redoutais le mépris des familles, en sorte que je restais tranquille et n’osais franchir ma porte.

Porque quebrantaba á la gran multitud, y el menosprecio de las familias me atemorizó, y callé, y no salí de mi puerta:

Did I fear a great multitude, or did the contempt of families terrify me, that I kept silence, and went not out of the door?

because I feared the great multitude, and the contempt of families terrified me, so that I kept silence, and didn’t go out of the door—

Oh ! si quelqu’un m’écoutait ! Voici ma signature : Que le Tout- Puissant me réponde, et que mon adversaire écrive son mémoire !

¡Quién me diera quien me oyese! He aquí mi impresión es que el Omnipotente testificaría por mí, aunque mi adversario me hiciera el proceso.

Oh that one would hear me! behold, my desire is, that the Almighty would answer me, and that mine adversary had written a book.

oh that I had one to hear me! Behold, here is my signature! Let the Almighty answer me! Let the accuser write my indictment!

Je jure que je le porterai sur mon épaule, je me l’attacherai comme une couronne,

Ciertamente yo lo llevaría sobre mi hombro, y me lo ataría en lugar de corona.

Surely I would take it upon my shoulder, and bind it as a crown to me.

Surely I would carry it on my shoulder, and I would bind it to me as a crown.

Je lui déclarerai le nombre de mes pas, je l’aborderai comme un prince.

Yo le contaría el número de mis pasos, y como príncipe me llegaría á él.

I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near unto him.

Si ma terre crie contre moi, et si mes sillons pleurent avec elle ;

Si mi tierra clama contra mí, y lloran todos sus surcos;

If my land cry against me, or that the furrows likewise thereof complain;

If my land cries out against me, and its furrows weep together;

Si je mange ses fruits sans l’avoir payée, si je fais rendre l’âme à ses maîtres,

Si comí su sustancia sin dinero, ó afligí el alma de sus dueños;

If I have eaten the fruits thereof without money, or have caused the owners thereof to lose their life:

if I have eaten its fruits without money, or have caused its owners to lose their life,

Qu’elle produise de l’épine au lieu de froment, et l’ivraie au lieu d’orge ! C’est ici la fin des paroles de Job.

En lugar de trigo me nazcan abrojos, y espinas en lugar de cebada. Acábanse las palabras de Job.

Let thistles grow instead of wheat, and cockle instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.
