Job 31

“Quando era jovem, fiz um trato com Deus. Nunca olharia para uma mulher com intenções impuras em meu coração;

HICE pacto con mis ojos: ¿cómo pues había yo de pensar en virgen?

I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?

“I made a covenant with my eyes; how then should I look lustfully at a young woman?

pois se o fizesse, qual seria a porção que eu receberia de Deus lá de cima? Que herança Deus me daria, e como me abençoaria o Todo-poderoso, lá dos céus?

Porque ¿qué galardón me daría de arriba Dios, y qué heredad el Omnipotente de las alturas?

For what portion of God is there from above? and what inheritance of the Almighty from on high?

For what is the portion from God above, and the heritage from the Almighty on high?

Eu sei que Deus tem um castigo reservado para os que vivem em pecado, e desgraça para os que praticam o mal.

¿No hay quebrantamiento para el impío, y extrañamiento para los que obran iniquidad?

Is not destruction to the wicked? and a strange punishment to the workers of iniquity?

Is it not calamity to the unrighteous, and disaster to the workers of iniquity?

Afinal, Deus conhece perfeitamente os meus caminhos e conhece todos os meus passos.

¿No ve él mis caminos, y cuenta todos mis pasos?

Doth not he see my ways, and count all my steps?

“Se por acaso eu menti ou tenho sido falso, ou enganei alguém,

Si anduve con mentira, y si mi pie se apresuró á engaño,

If I have walked with vanity, or if my foot hath hasted to deceit;

“If I have walked with falsehood, and my foot has hurried to deceit

que Deus me pese em uma balança justa. Ele sabe que não tenho culpa.

Péseme Dios en balanzas de justicia, y conocerá mi integridad.

Let me be weighed in an even balance, that God may know mine integrity.

Se andei fora do caminho, se meu coração desejou com intenções impuras o que meus olhos viram, ou se minhas mãos se contaminaram,

Si mis pasos se apartaron del camino, y si mi corazón se fué tras mis ojos, y si algo se apegó á mis manos,

If my step hath turned out of the way, and mine heart walked after mine eyes, and if any blot hath cleaved to mine hands;

if my step has turned out of the way, if my heart walked after my eyes, if any defilement has stuck to my hands,

desejo que outros comam o que eu plantei, e que as minhas plantações sejam arrancadas pelas raízes.

Siembre yo, y otro coma, y mis verduras sean arrancadas.

Then let me sow, and let another eat; yea, let my offspring be rooted out.

“Se meu coração foi seduzido por uma mulher, ou se fiquei escondido na porta dela,

Si fué mi corazón engañado acerca de mujer, y si estuve acechando á la puerta de mi prójimo:

If mine heart have been deceived by a woman, or if I have laid wait at my neighbour’s door;

“If my heart has been enticed to a woman, and I have laid wait at my neighbor’s door,

que minha esposa se torne escrava de outro, e que outros durmam com ela.

Muela para otro mi mujer, y sobre ella otros se encorven.

Then let my wife grind unto another, and let others bow down upon her.

Isso seria um castigo justo para um crime vergonhoso, digno de ser julgado num tribunal.

Porque es maldad é iniquidad, que han de castigar los jueces.

For this is an heinous crime; yea, it is an iniquity to be punished by the judges.

Sim, esse forte desejo sexual é um fogo que arde dentro do homem e pode até destruir sua vida, acabar com tudo que tem.

Porque es fuego que devoraría hasta el sepulcro, y desarraigaría toda mi hacienda.

For it is a fire that consumeth to destruction, and would root out all mine increase.

“Se eu fui injusto com meus servos e servas quando reclamavam contra mim,

Si hubiera tenido en poco el derecho de mi siervo y de mi sierva, cuando ellos pleitearan conmigo,

If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me;

“If I have despised the cause of my male servant or of my female servant, when they contended with me,

que farei quando Deus me confrontar? O que eu lhe direi quando ele me chamar para prestar contas?

¿Qué haría yo cuando Dios se levantase? y cuando él visitara, ¿qué le respondería yo?

What then shall I do when God riseth up? and when he visiteth, what shall I answer him?

what then will I do when God rises up? When he visits, what will I answer him?

Afinal, o mesmo Deus que me criou não os criou também? Não foi ele que deu vida tanto a mim como a eles?

El que en el vientre me hizo á mí, ¿no lo hizo á él? ¿y no nos dispuso uno mismo en la matriz?

Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?

“Se explorei os pobres, guardando o alimento para vender mais caro na época do preço alto, se fiz viúvas chorarem,

Si estorbé el contento de los pobres, é hice desfallecer los ojos de la viuda;

If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail;

“If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail,

se comi meu pão sozinho sem compartilhá-lo com o órfão,

Y si comí mi bocado solo, y no comió de él el huérfano;

Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten thereof;

or have eaten my morsel alone, and the fatherless has not eaten of it

— a verdade é que desde a minha mocidade eu cuidei do órfão como se fosse seu pai e desde o nascimento ajudei a viúva —

(Porque desde mi mocedad creció conmigo como con padre, y desde el vientre de mi madre fuí guía de la viuda;)

(For from my youth he was brought up with me, as with a father, and I have guided her from my mother’s womb;)

(no, from my youth he grew up with me as with a father, I have guided her from my mother’s womb);

se vi alguém morrendo de frio por falta de agasalho, ou um necessitado que não tinha com que se cobrir,

Si he visto que pereciera alguno sin vestido, y al menesteroso sin cobertura;

If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering;

if I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or that the needy had no covering;

se o pobre não me abençoou porque não aqueceu as suas costas com a lã das minhas ovelhas,

Si no me bendijeron sus lomos, y del vellón de mis ovejas se calentaron;

If his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

if his heart hasn’t blessed me, if he hasn’t been warmed with my sheep’s fleece;

e se levantei a mão contra o órfão por ser amigo das autoridades no tribunal,

Si alcé contra el huérfano mi mano, aunque viese que me ayudarían en la puerta;

If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate:

if I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, because I saw my help in the gate;

então quero que meu ombro se desloque, meu braço saia do lugar e assim eu fique aleijado para sempre.

Mi espalda se caiga de mi hombro, y mi brazo sea quebrado de mi canilla.

Then let mine arm fall from my shoulder blade, and mine arm be broken from the bone.

then let my shoulder fall from the shoulder blade, and my arm be broken from the bone.

Isso ainda seria melhor do que enfrentar o julgamento divino, pois eu não seria capaz de enfrentar a grandeza e o poder de Deus.

Porque temí el castigo de Dios, contra cuya alteza yo no tendría poder.

For destruction from God was a terror to me, and by reason of his highness I could not endure.

For calamity from God is a terror to me. Because of his majesty, I can do nothing.

“Se eu coloquei minha esperança no ouro e disse ao ouro puro: Você é a minha garantia,

Si puse en oro mi esperanza, y dije al oro: Mi confianza eres tú;

If I have made gold my hope, or have said to the fine gold, Thou art my confidence;

“If I have made gold my hope, and have said to the fine gold, ‘You are my confidence;’

se me considerei seguro por ter grande riqueza, e por minhas mãos ter ganho muito,

Si me alegré de que mi hacienda se multiplicase, y de que mi mano hallase mucho;

If I rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because mine hand had gotten much;

If I have rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because my hand had gotten much;

se olhei para o sol quando resplandecia ou para a lua, quando se movia gloriosa,

Si he mirado al sol cuando resplandecía, y á la luna cuando iba hermosa,

If I beheld the sun when it shined, or the moon walking in brightness;

if I have seen the sun when it shined, or the moon moving in splendor,

e me deixei enganar em segredo, adorando um ou outro, e jogando beijos com a mão para o céu,

Y mi corazón se engañó en secreto, y mi boca besó mi mano:

And my heart hath been secretly enticed, or my mouth hath kissed my hand:

and my heart has been secretly enticed, and my hand threw a kiss from my mouth;

isso também seria julgado como pecado, merecedor de condenação, porque eu estaria sendo infiel a Deus, que está nas alturas.

Esto también fuera maldad juzgada; porque habría negado al Dios soberano.

This also were an iniquity to be punished by the judge: for I should have denied the God that is above.

this also would be an iniquity to be punished by the judges, for I would have denied the God who is above.

“Se eu me alegrei com a desgraça do meu inimigo, ou se os seus problemas me deram prazer,

Si me alegré en el quebrantamiento del que me aborrecía, y me regocijé cuando le halló el mal;

If I rejoiced at the destruction of him that hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him:

“If I have rejoiced at the destruction of him who hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him

— coisa que eu absolutamente nunca fiz, lançando maldição sobre ele —

(Que ni aun entregué al pecado mi paladar, pidiendo maldición para su alma;)

Neither have I suffered my mouth to sin by wishing a curse to his soul.

(I have certainly not allowed my mouth to sin by asking his life with a curse);

se os que moram em minha casa nunca disseram: ‘Quem não se fartou de carne provida por Jó?’

Cuando mis domésticos decían: ¡Quién nos diese de su carne! nunca nos hartaríamos.

If the men of my tabernacle said not, Oh that we had of his flesh! we cannot be satisfied.

if the men of my tent have not said, ‘Who can find one who has not been filled with his meat?’

— nenhum estrangeiro passou a noite na rua, pois a minha porta sempre esteve aberta ao viajante —

El extranjero no tenía fuera la noche; mis puertas abría al caminante.

The stranger did not lodge in the street: but I opened my doors to the traveller.

(the foreigner has not camped in the street, but I have opened my doors to the traveler);

se escondi o meu pecado como outros fazem, tentando esconder de Deus a minha culpa, e

Si encubrí, como los hombres mis prevaricaciones, escondiendo en mi seno mi iniquidad;

If I covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding mine iniquity in my bosom:

if like Adam I have covered my transgressions, by hiding my iniquity in my heart,

por ter medo de ser descoberto pelos vizinhos e ser desprezado pelos familiares, me calei e não saí de casa …

Porque quebrantaba á la gran multitud, y el menosprecio de las familias me atemorizó, y callé, y no salí de mi puerta:

Did I fear a great multitude, or did the contempt of families terrify me, that I kept silence, and went not out of the door?

because I feared the great multitude, and the contempt of families terrified me, so that I kept silence, and didn’t go out of the door—

“Ah, quem dera que alguém se importasse em me ouvir! Eis a minha defesa. Que o Todo-poderoso me responda; que o meu adversário escreva a sua acusação;

¡Quién me diera quien me oyese! He aquí mi impresión es que el Omnipotente testificaría por mí, aunque mi adversario me hiciera el proceso.

Oh that one would hear me! behold, my desire is, that the Almighty would answer me, and that mine adversary had written a book.

oh that I had one to hear me! Behold, here is my signature! Let the Almighty answer me! Let the accuser write my indictment!

certamente a levaria sobre os meus ombros, e a usaria como coroa.

Ciertamente yo lo llevaría sobre mi hombro, y me lo ataría en lugar de corona.

Surely I would take it upon my shoulder, and bind it as a crown to me.

Surely I would carry it on my shoulder, and I would bind it to me as a crown.

Então eu diria a Deus tudo o que fiz, com a dignidade que eu tinha antes e perdi.

Yo le contaría el número de mis pasos, y como príncipe me llegaría á él.

I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near unto him.

I would declare to him the number of my steps. I would go near to him like a prince.

“Se a minha terra se queixar contra mim e os seus sulcos se molharem de lágrimas,

Si mi tierra clama contra mí, y lloran todos sus surcos;

If my land cry against me, or that the furrows likewise thereof complain;

If my land cries out against me, and its furrows weep together;

se comi dos seus frutos sem nada pagar, ou se causei morte aos seus donos,

Si comí su sustancia sin dinero, ó afligí el alma de sus dueños;

If I have eaten the fruits thereof without money, or have caused the owners thereof to lose their life:

if I have eaten its fruits without money, or have caused its owners to lose their life,

que ela passe a produzir espinhos em lugar de trigo e ervas daninhas em lugar de cevada”. Assim, Jó terminou a sua defesa.

En lugar de trigo me nazcan abrojos, y espinas en lugar de cebada. Acábanse las palabras de Job.

Let thistles grow instead of wheat, and cockle instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.
