Wherefore, Job, I pray thee, hear my speeches, and hearken to all my words.
“However, Job, please hear my speech, and listen to all my words.
Ya comencé a hablar; ahora déjame proseguir.
He aquí yo abriré ahora mi boca, y mi lengua hablará en mi garganta.
Behold, now I have opened my mouth, my tongue hath spoken in my mouth.
See now, I have opened my mouth. My tongue has spoken in my mouth.
Diré la verdad desnuda.
Mis razones declararán la rectitud de mi corazón, y mis labios proferirán pura sabiduría.
My words shall be of the uprightness of my heart: and my lips shall utter knowledge clearly.
My words will utter the uprightness of my heart. That which my lips know they will speak sincerely.
Porque el espíritu de Dios me hizo: el hálito del Todopoderoso me da vida.
El espíritu de Dios me hizo, y la inspiración del Omnipotente me dió vida.
The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.
The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
Si puedes responderme, no te detengas.
Si pudieres, respóndeme; dispón tus palabras, está delante de mí.
If thou canst answer me, set thy words in order before me, stand up.
If you can, answer me. Set your words in order before me, and stand up.
Mira, yo soy el que anhelabas: el intermediario entre tú y Dios, para actuar en representación de él y de ti.
Heme aquí á mí en lugar de Dios, conforme á tu dicho: de lodo soy yo también formado.
Behold, I am according to thy wish in God’s stead: I also am formed out of the clay.
Behold, I am toward God even as you are. I am also formed out of the clay.
No tienes por qué temerme. No soy persona famosa, que pueda ponerte nervioso o intimidarte. Yo también estoy hecho del barro común.
He aquí que mi terror no te espantará, ni mi mano se agravará sobre ti.
Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, neither shall my hand be heavy upon thee.
Behold, my terror will not make you afraid, neither will my pressure be heavy on you.
»Has dicho ante mis oídos; y varias veces, por cierto:
De cierto tú dijiste á oídos míos, y yo oí la voz de tus palabras que decían:
Surely thou hast spoken in mine hearing, and I have heard the voice of thy words, saying,
“Surely you have spoken in my hearing, I have heard the voice of your words, saying,
“Soy puro, soy inocente; no he pecado”.
Yo soy limpio y sin defecto; y soy inocente, y no hay maldad en mí.
I am clean without transgression, I am innocent; neither is there iniquity in me.
‘I am clean, without disobedience. I am innocent, neither is there iniquity in me.
Dices que Dios emplea un rastrillo muy fino tratando de hallar aunque sólo sea una falta, para tenerte por enemigo suyo.
He aquí que él buscó achaques contra mí, y me tiene por su enemigo;
Behold, he findeth occasions against me, he counteth me for his enemy,
Behold, he finds occasions against me. He counts me for his enemy.
“El mete mis pies en el cepo”, dices tú, “y vigila cada uno de mis movimientos”.
Puso mis pies en el cepo, y guardó todas mis sendas.
He putteth my feet in the stocks, he marketh all my paths.
He puts my feet in the stocks. He marks all my paths.’
»Pues bien, esta es mi respuesta: Precisamente has pecado al hablar así de Dios. Porque Dios es más grande que el hombre.
He aquí en esto no has hablado justamente: yo te responderé que mayor es Dios que el hombre.
Behold, in this thou art not just: I will answer thee, that God is greater than man.
“Behold, I will answer you. In this you are not just, for God is greater than man.
¿Por qué tienes que luchar contra él sólo porque no te rinde cuentas de lo que hace?
¿Por qué tomaste pleito contra él? Porque él no da cuenta de ninguna de sus razones.
Why dost thou strive against him? for he giveth not account of any of his matters.
Why do you strive against him, because he doesn’t give account of any of his matters?
Porque Dios habla repetidamente
Sin embargo, en una ó en dos maneras habla Dios; mas el hombre no entiende.
For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not.
For God speaks once, yes twice, though man pays no attention.
en sueños, en visiones nocturnas, cuando el sueño profundo cae sobre los hombres mientras yacen en sus lechos.
Por sueño de visión nocturna, cuando el sueño cae sobre los hombres, cuando se adormecen sobre el lecho;
In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;
In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, in slumbering on the bed,
En tales ocasiones Dios les abre los oídos y les da sabiduría e instrucción,
Entonces revela al oído de los hombres, y les señala su consejo;
Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction,
then he opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction,
haciéndoles cambiar de opinión, guardándolos del orgullo, y previniéndolos sobre los castigos del pecado, y evitando que caigan en algún lazo.
Para quitar al hombre de su obra, y apartar del varón la soberbia.

Detendrá su alma de corrupción, y su vida de que pase á cuchillo.

»A veces, Dios envía la enfermedad y el dolor, aunque no rompa ningún hueso,
También sobre su cama es castigado con dolor fuerte en todos sus huesos,
He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong pain:
“He is chastened also with pain on his bed, with continual strife in his bones,
de modo que el hombre pierde el gusto y el apetito, sin que le llame la atención ni el más delicioso manjar.
Que le hace que su vida aborrezca el pan, y su alma la comida suave.
So that his life abhorreth bread, and his soul dainty meat.

Se enflaquece; se vuelve huesos y pellejo,
Su carne desfallece sin verse, y sus huesos, que antes no se veían, aparecen.
His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; and his bones that were not seen stick out.

y llega al borde de la muerte.
Y su alma se acerca al sepulcro, y su vida á los que causan la muerte.
Yea, his soul draweth near unto the grave, and his life to the destroyers.

»Pero si hay un mensajero del cielo que interceda por él como amigo, para mostrarle lo que es recto, entonces Dios se compadece de él y dice: “Pónganlo en libertad; no lo hagan morir, pues he hallado un sustituto”.
Si tuviera cerca de él algún elocuente anunciador muy escogido, que anuncie al hombre su deber;
If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to shew unto man his uprightness:
“If there is beside him an angel, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to show to man what is right for him,
—
Que le diga que Dios tuvo de él misericordia, que lo libró de descender al sepulcro, que halló redención:
Then he is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.
then God is gracious to him, and says, ‘Deliver him from going down to the pit, I have found a ransom.’
Entonces el cuerpo se le volverá sano como el de un niño, robusto y juvenil otra vez.
Enterneceráse su carne más que de niño, volverá á los días de su mocedad.
His flesh shall be fresher than a child’s: he shall return to the days of his youth:
His flesh will be fresher than a child’s. He returns to the days of his youth.
Y cuando ore, Dios lo escuchará; contestará su oración y lo recibirá gozoso, y lo hará volver a sus deberes.
Orará á Dios, y le amará, y verá su faz con júbilo: y él restituirá al hombre su justicia.
He shall pray unto God, and he will be favourable unto him: and he shall see his face with joy: for he will render unto man his righteousness.
He prays to God, and he is favorable to him, so that he sees his face with joy. He restores to man his righteousness.
Y el hombre le declarará a sus amigos: “Pequé, pero Dios me dejó libre.
El mira sobre los hombres; y el que dijere: Pequé, y pervertí lo recto, y no me ha aprovechado;
He looketh upon men, and if any say, I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not;
He sings before men, and says, ‘I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it didn’t profit me.
No me hizo morir. Continuaré viviendo en el mundo de la luz”.
Dios redimirá su alma, que no pase al sepulcro, y su vida se verá en luz.
He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.
He has redeemed my soul from going into the pit. My life will see the light.’
»Sí, Dios suele hacer esto en favor del hombre.
He aquí, todas estas cosas hace Dios dos y tres veces con el hombre;
Lo, all these things worketh God oftentimes with man,
“Behold, God does all these things, twice, yes three times, with a man,
Saca del hoyo su alma, para que pueda vivir bajo la luz de los vivientes.
Para apartar su alma del sepulcro, y para iluminarlo con la luz de los vivientes.
To bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living.
to bring back his soul from the pit, that he may be enlightened with the light of the living.
»Fíjate bien en esto, Job, escúchame y déjame decir algo más.
Escucha, Job, y óyeme; calla, y yo hablaré.
Mark well, O Job, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I will speak.
Mark well, Job, and listen to me. Hold your peace, and I will speak.
Pero si ahora tienes algo que decir, dilo. Quiero escucharlo, pues estoy deseoso de justificarte.
Que si tuvieres razones, respóndeme: habla, porque yo te quiero justificar.
If thou hast any thing to say, answer me: speak, for I desire to justify thee.
If you have anything to say, answer me. Speak, for I desire to justify you.
De lo contrario, escúchame. ¡Mantén silencio, y yo te enseñaré sabiduría!».
Y si no, óyeme tú á mí; calla, y enseñarte he sabiduría.
If not, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I shall teach thee wisdom.
If not, listen to me. Hold your peace, and I will teach you wisdom.”
