Continuando Eliú su discurso, añadió lo siguiente:
ADEMÁS respondió Eliú, y dijo:
Furthermore Elihu answered and said,
Moreover Elihu answered,
Oíd, oh sabios, mis palabras; y vosotros, prudentes, prestadme atención;
Oid, sabios, mis palabras; y vosotros, doctos, estadme atentos.
Hear my words, O ye wise men; and give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge.
“Hear my words, you wise men. Give ear to me, you who have knowledge.
puesto que el oído atento juzga de los razonamientos, como el paladar discierne por el gusto los manjares.
Porque el oído prueba las palabras, como el paladar gusta para comer.
For the ear trieth words, as the mouth tasteth meat.
For the ear tries words, as the palate tastes food.
Examinemos bien entre nosotros el punto, y veamos de común acuerdo lo que sea más verdadero y acertado.
Escojamos para nosotros el juicio, conozcamos entre nosotros cuál sea lo bueno:
Let us choose to us judgment: let us know among ourselves what is good.
Let us choose for us that which is right. Let us know among ourselves what is good.
Es así que Job ha dicho: Yo soy justo, y Dios ha abandonado mi causa,
Porque Job ha dicho: Yo soy justo, y Dios me ha quitado mi derecho.
For Job hath said, I am righteous: and God hath taken away my judgment.
For Job has said, ‘I am righteous, God has taken away my right.
pues hay error en el juicio que de mí se ha hecho; violenta es la saeta que tengo atravesada, sin que haya en mí pecado alguno. Así ha hablado.
¿He de mentir yo contra mi razón? Mi saeta es gravosa sin haber yo prevaricado.
Should I lie against my right? my wound is incurable without transgression.
Notwithstanding my right I am considered a liar. My wound is incurable, though I am without disobedience.’
¿Qué hombre hay, pues, semejante a Job que insulta, como quien bebe un vaso de agua;
¿Qué hombre hay como Job, que bebe el escarnio como agua?
What man is like Job, who drinketh up scorning like water?
What man is like Job, who drinks scorn like water,
que se asocia con los que obran la iniquidad, y sigue las sendas de los impíos?
Y va en compañía con los que obran iniquidad, y anda con los hombres maliciosos.
Which goeth in company with the workers of iniquity, and walketh with wicked men.
who goes in company with the workers of iniquity, and walks with wicked men?
Pues ha dicho: No será el hombre grato a Dios, por más que corra por los caminos del Señor.
Porque ha dicho: De nada servirá al hombre el conformar su voluntad con Dios.
For he hath said, It profiteth a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.
For he has said, ‘It profits a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.’
Por tanto vosotros que sois varones cuerdos estadme atentos: Lejos de Dios toda impiedad, y del Todopoderoso toda injusticia.
Por tanto, varones de seso, oidme: Lejos esté de Dios la impiedad, y del Omnipotente la iniquidad.
Therefore hearken unto me, ye men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.
“Therefore listen to me, you men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness, from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.
Porque él ha de dar a las obras del hombre su pago merecido; y los ha de remunerar según la conducta de cada uno;
Porque él pagará al hombre según su obra, y él le hará hallar conforme á su camino.
For the work of a man shall he render unto him, and cause every man to find according to his ways.
For the work of a man he will give to him, and cause every man to find according to his ways.
siendo como es verdad que Dios no condena sin razón, ni el Omnipotente trastorna jamás la justicia.
Sí, por cierto, Dios no hará injusticia, y el Omnipotente no pervertirá el derecho.
Yea, surely God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment.
Yes surely, God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert justice.
¿Ha cedido él a algún otro sus veces sobre la tierra? ¿O a quién ha encargado gobernar el mundo que fabricó?
¿Quién visitó por él la tierra? ¿y quién puso en orden todo el mundo?
Who hath given him a charge over the earth? or who hath disposed the whole world?
Who put him in charge of the earth? Or who has appointed him over the whole world?
Si con su corazón airado se pusiese él a mirarle, se atraería otra vez a sí el espíritu y el aliento que le dio.
Si él pusiese sobre el hombre su corazón, y recogiese así su espíritu y su aliento,
If he set his heart upon man, if he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath;
If he set his heart on himself, if he gathered to himself his spirit and his breath,
Toda carne perecería de un golpe, y el hombre se tornaría en polvo.
Toda carne perecería juntamente, y el hombre se tornaría en polvo.
All flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again unto dust.
all flesh would perish together, and man would turn again to dust.
Ahora bien, si tú tienes entendimiento, atiende a lo que se dice, y escucha mis palabras.
Si pues hay en ti entendimiento, oye esto: escucha la voz de mis palabras.
If now thou hast understanding, hear this: hearken to the voice of my words.
“If now you have understanding, hear this. Listen to the voice of my words.
¿Por ventura puede ser capaz de curación el que no ama la justicia? Pues cómo tú condenas tanto a aquel Señor que es el justo por esencia?
¿Enseñorearáse el que aborrece juicio? ¿y condenarás tú al que es tan justo?
Shall even he that hateth right govern? and wilt thou condemn him that is most just?
Should even one who hates justice govern? Will you condemn him who is righteous and mighty,
A aquel que condena y castiga como prevaricadores a los mismos reyes, y como impíos a los grandes;
¿Hase de decir al rey: Perverso; y á los príncipes: Impíos?
Is it fit to say to a king, Thou art wicked? and to princes, Ye are ungodly?
who says to a king, ‘Vile!’ or to nobles, ‘Wicked!’?
que no repara en que sean príncipes ni hace caso de que sean tiranos o poderosos, cuando pleitean contra el pobre; porque todos igualmente son hechura de sus manos.
¿Cuánto menos á aquel que no hace acepción de personas de príncipes, ni el rico es de él más respetado que el pobre? porque todos son obras de sus manos.
How much less to him that accepteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich more than the poor? for they all are the work of his hands.
He doesn’t respect the persons of princes, nor respect the rich more than the poor, for they all are the work of his hands.
Morirán de repente, y los pueblos a medianoche se alborotarán y andarán de una parte a otra, y acabarán sin el menor esfuerzo con los tiranos.
En un momento morirán, y á media noche se alborotarán los pueblos, y pasarán, y sin mano será quitado el poderoso.
In a moment shall they die, and the people shall be troubled at midnight, and pass away: and the mighty shall be taken away without hand.
In a moment they die, even at midnight. The people are shaken and pass away. The mighty are taken away without a hand.
Porque los ojos de Dios observan los caminos de los hombres, y tiene él contados todos sus pasos.
Porque sus ojos están sobre los caminos del hombre, y ve todos sus pasos.
For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he seeth all his goings.
“For his eyes are on the ways of a man. He sees all his goings.
No hay tinieblas, no hay sombras de muerte, que basten para ocultar a los que obran la iniquidad.
No hay tinieblas ni sombra de muerte donde se encubran los que obran maldad.
There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.
There is no darkness, nor thick gloom, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.
Pues no está en poder del hombre dejar de comparecer a juicio ante Dios.
No carga pues él al hombre más de lo justo, para que vaya con Dios á juicio.
For he will not lay upon man more than right; that he should enter into judgment with God.
For he doesn’t need to consider a man further, that he should go before God in judgment.
El cual quitará de en medio a una multitud innumerable, y sustituirá otros en su lugar;
El quebrantará á los fuertes sin pesquisa, y hará estar otros en su lugar.
He shall break in pieces mighty men without number, and set others in their stead.
He breaks mighty men in pieces in ways past finding out, and sets others in their place.
porque conoce bien sus fechorías; y por tanto prepara la noche en que serán aniquilados.
Por tanto él hará notorias las obras de ellos, cuando los trastornará en la noche, y serán quebrantados.
Therefore he knoweth their works, and he overturneth them in the night, so that they are destroyed.
Therefore he takes knowledge of their works. He overturns them in the night, so that they are destroyed.
Los castigó como a impíos, a la vista de todo el mundo.
Como á malos los herirá en lugar donde sean vistos:
He striketh them as wicked men in the open sight of others;
He strikes them as wicked men in the open sight of others;
Porque, como de propósito, se alejaron de él; y no quisieron saber nada de todas sus disposiciones;
Por cuanto así se apartaron de él, y no consideraron todos sus caminos;
Because they turned back from him, and would not consider any of his ways:
because they turned away from following him, and wouldn’t pay attention to any of his ways,
de suerte que hicieron subir hasta él los clamores de los miserables y el grito de los pobres.
Haciendo venir delante de él el clamor del pobre, y que oiga el clamor de los necesitados.
So that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto him, and he heareth the cry of the afflicted.
so that they caused the cry of the poor to come to him. He heard the cry of the afflicted.
Porque al que él concede la paz, o le perdona, ¿quién lo condenará? Y ¿quién amparará al que él abandona, ya sea nación, o bien un particular?
Y si él diere reposo, ¿quién inquietará? si escondiere el rostro, ¿quién lo mirará? Esto sobre una nación, y lo mismo sobre un hombre;
When he giveth quietness, who then can make trouble? and when he hideth his face, who then can behold him? whether it be done against a nation, or against a man only:
When he gives quietness, who then can condemn? When he hides his face, who then can see him? He is over a nation or a man alike,
El es el que permite que entre a reinar un hipócrita o tirano, por causa de los pecados del pueblo.
Haciendo que no reine el hombre hipócrita para vejaciones del pueblo.
That the hypocrite reign not, lest the people be ensnared.
that the godless man may not reign, that there be no one to ensnare the people.
Ahora, pues, ya que he hablado de Dios y en su defensa, no estorbaré que hables tú también lo que quieras.
De seguro conviene se diga á Dios: Llevado he ya castigo, no más ofenderé:
Surely it is meet to be said unto God, I have borne chastisement, I will not offend any more:
“For has any said to God, ‘I am guilty, but I will not offend any more.
Si he errado, enséñame el error; si me pruebas que he hablado la iniquidad, no diré nada más.
Enséñame tú lo que yo no veo: que si hice mal, no lo haré más.
That which I see not teach thou me: if I have done iniquity, I will do no more.
Teach me that which I don’t see. If I have done iniquity, I will do it no more’?
¿Acaso te ha de pedir Dios a ti cuenta de mi discurso, que tanto te desagrada e inquieta? El hecho es que tú comenzaste a discurrir, y no yo; mas si sabes tú alguna cosa mejor, habla.
¿Ha de ser eso según tu mente? El te retribuirá, ora rehuses, ora aceptes, y no yo: di si no, lo que tú sabes.
Should it be according to thy mind? he will recompense it, whether thou refuse, or whether thou choose; and not I: therefore speak what thou knowest.
Shall his recompense be as you desire, that you refuse it? For you must choose, and not I. Therefore speak what you know.
Pero yo quisiera escuchar a hombres de entendimiento, y hablar con gente sabia.
Los hombres de seso dirán conmigo, y el hombre sabio me oirá:
Let men of understanding tell me, and let a wise man hearken unto me.
Men of understanding will tell me, yes, every wise man who hears me:
Porque Job ha hablado neciamente, y sus palabras no suenan buena doctrina.
Que Job no habla con sabiduría, y que sus palabras no son con entendimiento.
Job hath spoken without knowledge, and his words were without wisdom.
‘Job speaks without knowledge. His words are without wisdom.’
Por lo mismo, oh Padre mío, sea Job atribulado hasta el fin; no dejes en paz a ese mal hombre.
Deseo yo que Job sea probado ampliamente, á causa de sus respuestas por los hombres inicuos.
My desire is that Job may be tried unto the end because of his answers for wicked men.
I wish that Job were tried to the end, because of his answering like wicked men.
Porque él añade a sus demás pecados la blasfemia; nosotros entretanto le estrecharemos, y entonces apele en sus discursos al juicio de Dios.
Porque á su pecado añadió impiedad: bate las manos entre nosotros, y contra Dios multiplica sus palabras.
For he addeth rebellion unto his sin, he clappeth his hands among us, and multiplieth his words against God.
For he adds rebellion to his sin. He claps his hands among us, and multiplies his words against God.”
