1Und Jehova antwortete Hiob aus dem Sturme und sprach:
2Wer ist es, der den Rat verdunkelt mit Worten ohne Erkenntnis?
3Gürte doch wie ein Mann deine Lenden; so will ich dich fragen, und du belehre mich!
4Wo warst du, als ich die Erde gründete? Tue es kund, wenn du Einsicht besitzest!
5Wer hat ihre Maße bestimmt, wenn du es weißt? Oder wer hat über sie die Meßschnur gezogen?
6In was wurden ihre Grundfesten eingesenkt?
7Oder wer hat ihren Eckstein gelegt, als die Morgensterne miteinander jubelten und alle Söhne Gottes jauchzten?
8Und wer hat das Meer mit Toren verschlossen, als es ausbrach, hervorkam aus dem Mutterschoße,
9als ich Gewölk zu seinem Gewande und Wolkendunkel zu seiner Windel machte,
10und ich ihm meine Grenze bestimmte und Riegel und Tore setzte,
11und sprach: Bis hierher sollst du kommen und nicht weiter, und hier sei eine Schranke gesetzt dem Trotze deiner Wellen? -
12Hast du, seitdem du lebst, einem Morgen geboten? Hast du die Morgenröte ihre Stätte wissen lassen,
13daß sie erfasse die Säume der Erde, und die Gesetzlosen von ihr verscheucht werden?
14Sie verwandelt sich wie Siegelton, und alles steht da wie in einem Gewande;
15und den Gesetzlosen wird ihr Licht entzogen, und der erhobene Arm wird zerbrochen.
16Bist du gekommen bis zu den Quellen des Meeres, und hast du die Gründe der Tiefe durchwandelt?
17Wurden dir die Pforten des Todes enthüllt, und sahest du die Pforten des Todesschattens?
18Hast du Einsicht genommen in die Breiten der Erde? Sage an, wenn du es alles weißt!
19Welches ist der Weg zur Wohnung des Lichtes, und die Finsternis, wo ist ihre Stätte?
20Daß du sie hinbrächtest zu ihrer Grenze, und daß du der Pfade zu ihrem Hause kundig wärest.
21Du weißt es ja; denn damals wurdest du geboren, und die Zahl deiner Tage ist groß!
22Bist du zu den Vorräten des Schnees gekommen, und hast du gesehen die Vorräte des Hagels,
23die ich aufgespart habe für die Zeit der Bedrängnis, für den Tag des Kampfes und der Schlacht?
24Welches ist der Weg, auf dem das Licht sich verteilt, der Ostwind sich verbreitet über die Erde?
25Wer teilt der Regenflut Kanäle ab und einen Weg dem Donnerstrahle,
26um regnen zu lassen auf ein Land ohne Menschen, auf die Wüste, in welcher kein Mensch ist,
27um zu sättigen die Öde und Verödung, und um hervorsprießen zu lassen die Triebe des Grases?
28Hat der Regen einen Vater, oder wer zeugt die Tropfen des Taues?
29Aus wessen Schoße kommt das Eis hervor, und des Himmels Reif, wer gebiert ihn?
30Wie das Gestein verdichten sich die Wasser, und die Fläche der Tiefe schließt sich zusammen.
31Kannst du knüpfen das Gebinde des Siebengestirns, oder lösen die Fesseln des Orion?
32Kannst du die Bilder des Tierkreises hervortreten lassen zu ihrer Zeit, und den großen Bären leiten samt seinen Kindern?
33Kennst du die Gesetze des Himmels, oder bestimmst du seine Herrschaft über die Erde?
34Kannst du deine Stimme zum Gewölk erheben, daß eine Menge Wassers dich bedecke?
35Kannst du Blitze entsenden, daß sie hinfahren, daß sie zu dir sagen: Hier sind wir? -
36Wer hat Weisheit in die Nieren gelegt, oder wer hat dem Geiste Verstand gegeben?
37Wer zählt die Wolken mit Weisheit, und des Himmels Schläuche, wer gießt sie aus,
38wenn der Staub zu dichtem Gusse zusammenfließt und die Schollen aneinander kleben?
39Erjagst du der Löwin den Raub, und stillst du die Gier der jungen Löwen,
40wenn sie in den Höhlen kauern, im Dickicht auf der Lauer sitzen?
41Wer bereitet dem Raben seine Speise, wenn seine Jungen zu Gott schreien, umherirren ohne Nahrung?

1Y RESPONDIÓ Jehová á Job desde un torbellino, y dijo:
2¿Quién es ése que oscurece el consejo con palabras sin sabiduría?
3Ahora ciñe como varón tus lomos; yo te preguntaré, y hazme saber tú.
4¿Dónde estabas cuando yo fundaba la tierra? házmelo saber, si tienes inteligencia.
5¿Quién ordenó sus medidas, si lo sabes? ¿ó quién extendió sobre ella cordel?
6¿Sobre qué están fundadas sus basas? ¿ó quién puso su piedra angular,
7Cuando las estrellas todas del alba alababan, y se regocijaban todos los hijos de Dios?
8¿Quién encerró con puertas la mar, cuando se derramaba por fuera como saliendo de madre;
9Cuando puse yo nubes por vestidura suya, y por su faja oscuridad.
10Y establecí sobre ella mi decreto, y le puse puertas y cerrojo,
11Y dije: Hasta aquí vendrás, y no pasarás adelante, y ahí parará la hinchazón de tus ondas?
12¿Has tú mandado á la mañana en tus días? ¿has mostrado al alba su lugar,
13Para que ocupe los fines de la tierra, y que sean sacudidos de ella los impíos?
14Trasmúdase como lodo bajo de sello, y viene á estar como con vestidura:
15Mas la luz de los impíos es quitada de ellos, y el brazo enaltecido es quebrantado.
16¿Has entrado tú hasta los profundos de la mar, y has andado escudriñando el abismo?
17¿Hante sido descubiertas las puertas de la muerte, y has visto las puertas de la sombra de muerte?
18¿Has tú considerado hasta las anchuras de la tierra? Declara si sabes todo esto.
19¿Por dónde va el camino á la habitación de la luz, y dónde está el lugar de las tinieblas?
20¿Si llevarás tú ambas cosas á sus términos, y entenderás las sendas de su casa?
21¿Sabíaslo tú porque hubieses ya nacido, ó porque es grande el número de tus días?
22¿Has tú entrado en los tesoros de la nieve, ó has visto los tesoros del granizo,
23Lo cual tengo yo reservado para el tiempo de angustia, para el día de la guerra y de la batalla?
24¿Por qué camino se reparte la luz, y se esparce el viento solano sobre la tierra?
25¿Quién repartió conducto al turbión, y camino á los relámpagos y truenos,
26Haciendo llover sobre la tierra deshabitada, sobre el desierto, donde no hay hombre,
27Para hartar la tierra desierta é inculta, y para hacer brotar la tierna hierba?
28¿Tiene la lluvia padre? ¿ó quién engendró las gotas del rocío?
29¿De qué vientre salió el hielo? y la escarcha del cielo, ¿quién la engendró?
30Las aguas se endurecen á manera de piedra, y congélase la haz del abismo.
31¿Podrás tú impedir las delicias de las Pléyades, ó desatarás las ligaduras del Orión?
32¿Sacarás tú á su tiempo los signos de los cielos, ó guiarás el Arcturo con sus hijos?
33¿Supiste tú las ordenanzas de los cielos? ¿dispondrás tú de su potestad en la tierra?
34¿Alzarás tú á las nubes tu voz, para que te cubra muchedumbre de aguas?
35¿Enviarás tú los relámpagos, para que ellos vayan? ¿y diránte ellos: Henos aquí?
36¿Quién puso la sabiduría en el interior? ¿ó quién dió al entendimiento la inteligencia?
37¿Quién puso por cuenta los cielos con sabiduría? y los odres de los cielos, ¿quién los hace parar,
38Cuando el polvo se ha convertido en dureza, y los terrones se han pegado unos con otros?

1Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,
2Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?
3Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.
4Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.
5Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?
6Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;
7When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
8Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb?
9When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it,
10And brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors,
11And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?
12Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days; and caused the dayspring to know his place;
13That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it?
14It is turned as clay to the seal; and they stand as a garment.
15And from the wicked their light is withholden, and the high arm shall be broken.
16Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? or hast thou walked in the search of the depth?
17Have the gates of death been opened unto thee? or hast thou seen the doors of the shadow of death?
18Hast thou perceived the breadth of the earth? declare if thou knowest it all.
19Where is the way where light dwelleth? and as for darkness, where is the place thereof,
20That thou shouldest take it to the bound thereof, and that thou shouldest know the paths to the house thereof?
21Knowest thou it, because thou wast then born? or because the number of thy days is great?
22Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail,
23Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?
24By what way is the light parted, which scattereth the east wind upon the earth?
25Who hath divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder;
26To cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, wherein there is no man;
27To satisfy the desolate and waste ground; and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth?
28Hath the rain a father? or who hath begotten the drops of dew?
29Out of whose womb came the ice? and the hoary frost of heaven, who hath gendered it?
30The waters are hid as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen.
31Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?
32Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons?
33Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth?
34Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover thee?
35Canst thou send lightnings, that they may go, and say unto thee, Here we are?
36Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? or who hath given understanding to the heart?
37Who can number the clouds in wisdom? or who can stay the bottles of heaven,
38When the dust groweth into hardness, and the clods cleave fast together?
39Wilt thou hunt the prey for the lion? or fill the appetite of the young lions,
40When they couch in their dens, and abide in the covert to lie in wait?
41Who provideth for the raven his food? when his young ones cry unto God, they wander for lack of meat.

2“Who is this who darkens counsel by words without knowledge?
3Brace yourself like a man, for I will question you, then you answer me!
4“Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if you have understanding.
5Who determined its measures, if you know? Or who stretched the line on it?
6What were its foundations fastened on? Or who laid its cornerstone,
7when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
8“Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it broke out of the womb,
9when I made clouds its garment, and wrapped it in thick darkness,
10marked out for it my bound, set bars and doors,
11and said, ‘You may come here, but no further. Your proud waves shall be stopped here’?
12“Have you commanded the morning in your days, and caused the dawn to know its place,
13that it might take hold of the ends of the earth, and shake the wicked out of it?
14It is changed as clay under the seal, and presented as a garment.
15From the wicked, their light is withheld. The high arm is broken.
16“Have you entered into the springs of the sea? Or have you walked in the recesses of the deep?
17Have the gates of death been revealed to you? Or have you seen the gates of the shadow of death?
18Have you comprehended the earth in its width? Declare, if you know it all.
19“What is the way to the dwelling of light? As for darkness, where is its place,
20that you should take it to its bound, that you should discern the paths to its house?
21Surely you know, for you were born then, and the number of your days is great!
22Have you entered the storehouses of the snow, or have you seen the storehouses of the hail,
23which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?
24By what way is the lightning distributed, or the east wind scattered on the earth?
25Who has cut a channel for the flood water, or the path for the thunderstorm,
26to cause it to rain on a land where there is no man, on the wilderness, in which there is no man,
27to satisfy the waste and desolate ground, to cause the tender grass to grow?
28Does the rain have a father? Or who fathers the drops of dew?
29Whose womb did the ice come out of? Who has given birth to the gray frost of the sky?
30The waters become hard like stone, when the surface of the deep is frozen.
31“Can you bind the cluster of the Pleiades, or loosen the cords of Orion?
32Can you lead the constellations out in their season? Or can you guide the Bear with her cubs?
33Do you know the laws of the heavens? Can you establish its dominion over the earth?
34“Can you lift up your voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover you?
35Can you send out lightnings, that they may go? Do they report to you, ‘Here we are’?
36Who has put wisdom in the inward parts? Or who has given understanding to the mind?
37Who can count the clouds by wisdom? Or who can pour out the containers of the sky,
38when the dust runs into a mass, and the clods of earth stick together?
39“Can you hunt the prey for the lioness, or satisfy the appetite of the young lions,
40when they crouch in their dens, and lie in wait in the thicket?
41Who provides for the raven his prey, when his young ones cry to God, and wander for lack of food?
