Ceins-toi les reins comme un homme ; je vais te questionner : réponds-moi.
Ahora ciñe como varón tus lomos; yo te preguntaré, y hazme saber tú.
Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.
Brace yourself like a man, for I will question you, then you answer me!
Où étais-tu quand j'ai créé la terre ? Déclare-le-moi si tu en as connaissance.
¿Dónde estabas cuando yo fundaba la tierra? házmelo saber, si tienes inteligencia.
Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.
“Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if you have understanding.
Qui en a réglé les dimensions ; le sais-tu ? Qui a promené sur elle le cordeau pour en prendre la mesure ?
¿Quién ordenó sus medidas, si lo sabes? ¿ó quién extendió sobre ella cordel?
Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?
Who determined its measures, if you know? Or who stretched the line on it?
Comment en a-t-on attaché les anneaux ? Qui a posé sur elle la pierre angulaire ?
¿Sobre qué están fundadas sus basas? ¿ó quién puso su piedra angular,
Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;
What were its foundations fastened on? Or who laid its cornerstone,
Lorsque les astres ont paru, tous mes anges à haute voix m'ont applaudi.

J'ai renfermé la mer, j'ai placé des portes pour que, dans sa fureur, elle ne pût s'élancer hors des entrailles qui la contiennent.
¿Quién encerró con puertas la mar, cuando se derramaba por fuera como saliendo de madre;
Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb?

Pour langes, je lui ai donné les brouillards, et pour vêtement les nuées.
Cuando puse yo nubes por vestidura suya, y por su faja oscuridad.
When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it,
when I made clouds its garment, and wrapped it in thick darkness,
J'ai fixé ses limites, je l'ai entourée de battants et de verrous.
Y establecí sobre ella mi decreto, y le puse puertas y cerrojo,
And brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors,
marked out for it my bound, set bars and doors,
Je lui ai dit : Tu iras jusque-là, tu n'iras pas plus loin ; tes vagues se briseront sur toi-même.
Y dije: Hasta aquí vendrás, y no pasarás adelante, y ahí parará la hinchazón de tus ondas?
And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?
and said, ‘You may come here, but no further. Your proud waves shall be stopped here’?
Est-ce de ton temps que j'ai disposé la lueur de l'aurore ? et que l'étoile du matin a su qu'elle avait pour devoir
¿Has tú mandado á la mañana en tus días? ¿has mostrado al alba su lugar,
Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days; and caused the dayspring to know his place;
“Have you commanded the morning in your days, and caused the dawn to know its place,
De secouer la terre, en la tenant par les deux ailes, et d'en faire tomber les impies ?
Para que ocupe los fines de la tierra, y que sean sacudidos de ella los impíos?
That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it?
that it might take hold of the ends of the earth, and shake the wicked out of it?
Est-ce toi qui, ayant pris de l'argile, as formé un être vivant et l'as mis sur la terre, doué de parole ?
Trasmúdase como lodo bajo de sello, y viene á estar como con vestidura:
It is turned as clay to the seal; and they stand as a garment.
It is changed as clay under the seal, and presented as a garment.
As-tu ôté aux méchants la lumière, as-tu broyé les bras des orgueilleux ?
Mas la luz de los impíos es quitada de ellos, y el brazo enaltecido es quebrantado.
And from the wicked their light is withholden, and the high arm shall be broken.
From the wicked, their light is withheld. The high arm is broken.
Es-tu descendu jusqu'au sources de la mer ? As-tu marché dans les profondeurs de l'abîme ?
¿Has entrado tú hasta los profundos de la mar, y has andado escudriñando el abismo?
Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? or hast thou walked in the search of the depth?
“Have you entered into the springs of the sea? Or have you walked in the recesses of the deep?
Les portes de la mort s'ouvrent-elles sans t'effrayer ? Peux-tu soutenir sans épouvante les regards des gardiens de l'enfer ?
¿Hante sido descubiertas las puertas de la muerte, y has visto las puertas de la sombra de muerte?
Have the gates of death been opened unto thee? or hast thou seen the doors of the shadow of death?
Have the gates of death been revealed to you? Or have you seen the gates of the shadow of death?
La vaste étendue que le ciel recouvre ne t'a-t-elle pas averti ? Dis-le- moi, que penses-tu de sa grandeur ?
¿Has tú considerado hasta las anchuras de la tierra? Declara si sabes todo esto.
Hast thou perceived the breadth of the earth? declare if thou knowest it all.
Have you comprehended the earth in its width? Declare, if you know it all.
Quelle est la contrée où la lumière passe la nuit ? Quel est le lieu où résident les ténèbres ?
¿Por dónde va el camino á la habitación de la luz, y dónde está el lugar de las tinieblas?
Where is the way where light dwelleth? and as for darkness, where is the place thereof,
“What is the way to the dwelling of light? As for darkness, where is its place,
Pourrais-tu m'y conduire, en connais-tu le chemin ?
¿Si llevarás tú ambas cosas á sus términos, y entenderás las sendas de su casa?
That thou shouldest take it to the bound thereof, and that thou shouldest know the paths to the house thereof?
that you should take it to its bound, that you should discern the paths to its house?
Ne sais-je point que si dès lors tu étais né, tes jours ont été bien nombreux ?
¿Sabíaslo tú porque hubieses ya nacido, ó porque es grande el número de tus días?
Knowest thou it, because thou wast then born? or because the number of thy days is great?
Surely you know, for you were born then, and the number of your days is great!
As-tu visité les trésors de la neige ? As-tu vu les trésors de la grêle ?
¿Has tú entrado en los tesoros de la nieve, ó has visto los tesoros del granizo,
Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail,
Have you entered the storehouses of the snow, or have you seen the storehouses of the hail,
Les tiens-tu en réserve pour l'heure où se montreront tes ennemis, pour les jours de la guerre et des combats ?
Lo cual tengo yo reservado para el tiempo de angustia, para el día de la guerra y de la batalla?
Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?

Quelle puissance a préparé la chute des pluies violente et la voie des cataclysmes
¿Quién repartió conducto al turbión, y camino á los relámpagos y truenos,
Who hath divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder;
Who has cut a channel for the flood water, or the path for the thunderstorm,
Qui fondent sur des contrées où il n'y a point d'hommes, sur des déserts où les mortels ne possèdent rien ;
Haciendo llover sobre la tierra deshabitada, sobre el desierto, donde no hay hombre,
To cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, wherein there is no man;
to cause it to rain on a land where there is no man, on the wilderness, in which there is no man,
Qui fécondent des champs inhabités et leur font produire une herbe luxuriante ?
Para hartar la tierra desierta é inculta, y para hacer brotar la tierna hierba?
To satisfy the desolate and waste ground; and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth?

Quel est le père de la pluie ? Qui a produit les gouttes de la rosée ?

Hath the rain a father? or who hath begotten the drops of dew?

De quel sein est sortie la glace, d'où est né le givre du ciel
¿De qué vientre salió el hielo? y la escarcha del cielo, ¿quién la engendró?
Out of whose womb came the ice? and the hoary frost of heaven, who hath gendered it?
Whose womb did the ice come out of? Who has given birth to the gray frost of the sky?
Qui descend comme l'eau coule ? Quel est celui qui frappe de terreur les impies ?
Las aguas se endurecen á manera de piedra, y congélase la haz del abismo.
The waters are hid as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen.
The waters become hard like stone, when the surface of the deep is frozen.
Est-ce toi qui as enchaîné les pléiades et ouvert la clôture qui retenait Orion ?
¿Podrás tú impedir las delicias de las Pléyades, ó desatarás las ligaduras del Orión?
Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?
“Can you bind the cluster of the Pleiades, or loosen the cords of Orion?
Feras-tu voir Mazuroth en son temps, et conduiras-tu sur sa chevelure l'étoile du soir elle-même ?
¿Sacarás tú á su tiempo los signos de los cielos, ó guiarás el Arcturo con sus hijos?
Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons?
Can you lead the constellations out in their season? Or can you guide the Bear with her cubs?
Connais-tu les révolutions du ciel et ce qui arrive en même temps sur la terre ?
¿Supiste tú las ordenanzas de los cielos? ¿dispondrás tú de su potestad en la tierra?
Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth?
Do you know the laws of the heavens? Can you establish its dominion over the earth?
Appelles-tu de la voix le nuage, t'obéit-il, en s'ébranlant verse-t-il des torrents d'eau ?
¿Alzarás tú á las nubes tu voz, para que te cubra muchedumbre de aguas?
Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover thee?
“Can you lift up your voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover you?
Convoques-tu les éclairs ? Viennent-ils en disant : Qu'y a-t-il ?
¿Enviarás tú los relámpagos, para que ellos vayan? ¿y diránte ellos: Henos aquí?
Canst thou send lightnings, that they may go, and say unto thee, Here we are?
Can you send out lightnings, that they may go? Do they report to you, ‘Here we are’?
Qui donc a enseigné aux femmes l'art de faire des tissus ; qui les a douées de l'adresse d'y tracer des ornements divers ?
¿Quién puso la sabiduría en el interior? ¿ó quién dió al entendimiento la inteligencia?
Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? or who hath given understanding to the heart?
Who has put wisdom in the inward parts? Or who has given understanding to the mind?
Qui sait, en sa sagesse, dompter les nuages, et qui a courbé le ciel vers la terre ?
¿Quién puso por cuenta los cielos con sabiduría? y los odres de los cielos, ¿quién los hace parar,
Who can number the clouds in wisdom? or who can stay the bottles of heaven,
Who can count the clouds by wisdom? Or who can pour out the containers of the sky,
Il a été malléable comme de la terre en poudre, et je l'ai consolidé comme un bloc de pierre.
Cuando el polvo se ha convertido en dureza, y los terrones se han pegado unos con otros?
When the dust groweth into hardness, and the clods cleave fast together?
when the dust runs into a mass, and the clods of earth stick together?
Chasseras-tu pour donner aux lions leur nourriture ? Rempliras-tu l'âme des serpents ?

Wilt thou hunt the prey for the lion? or fill the appetite of the young lions,
“Can you hunt the prey for the lioness, or satisfy the appetite of the young lions,
Ils craignent dans leurs repaires, et ils se tiennent en embuscade au fond des forêts.
—
When they couch in their dens, and abide in the covert to lie in wait?
when they crouch in their dens, and lie in wait in the thicket?
Qui a préparé au corbeau sa pâture ? car ses petits, en secouant leurs ailes, ont crié au Seigneur pour demander à manger.

Who provideth for the raven his food? when his young ones cry unto God, they wander for lack of meat.
Who provides for the raven his prey, when his young ones cry to God, and wander for lack of food?
