Ahora ciñe como varón tus lomos; yo te preguntaré, y hazme saber tú.
Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.
Brace yourself like a man, for I will question you, then you answer me!
da mich die Morgensterne miteinander lobeten, und jauchzeten alle Kinder Gottes?
¿Dónde estabas cuando yo fundaba la tierra? házmelo saber, si tienes inteligencia.
Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.
“Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if you have understanding.
Wer hat das Meer mit seinen Türen verschlossen, da es herausbrach wie aus Mutterleibe,
¿Quién ordenó sus medidas, si lo sabes? ¿ó quién extendió sobre ella cordel?
Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?
Who determined its measures, if you know? Or who stretched the line on it?
da ich's mit Wolken kleidete und in Dunkel einwickelte, wie in Windeln,
¿Sobre qué están fundadas sus basas? ¿ó quién puso su piedra angular,
Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;
What were its foundations fastened on? Or who laid its cornerstone,
da ich ihm den Lauf brach mit meinem Damm und setzte ihm Riegel und Tür
Cuando las estrellas todas del alba alababan, y se regocijaban todos los hijos de Dios?
When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

¿Quién encerró con puertas la mar, cuando se derramaba por fuera como saliendo de madre;
Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb?

Hast du bei deiner Zeit dem Morgen geboten und der Morgenröte ihren Ort gezeiget,
Cuando puse yo nubes por vestidura suya, y por su faja oscuridad.
When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it,
when I made clouds its garment, and wrapped it in thick darkness,
daß die Ecken der Erde gefasset und die Gottlosen herausgeschüttelt würden?
Y establecí sobre ella mi decreto, y le puse puertas y cerrojo,
And brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors,
marked out for it my bound, set bars and doors,
Das Siegel wird sich wandeln wie Leimen, und sie stehen wie ein Kleid.
Y dije: Hasta aquí vendrás, y no pasarás adelante, y ahí parará la hinchazón de tus ondas?
And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?
and said, ‘You may come here, but no further. Your proud waves shall be stopped here’?
Und den Gottlosen wird ihr Licht genommen werden; und der Arm der Hoffärtigen wird zerbrochen werden.
¿Has tú mandado á la mañana en tus días? ¿has mostrado al alba su lugar,
Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days; and caused the dayspring to know his place;
“Have you commanded the morning in your days, and caused the dawn to know its place,
Bist du in den Grund des Meers kommen und hast in den Fußtapfen der Tiefen gewandelt?
Para que ocupe los fines de la tierra, y que sean sacudidos de ella los impíos?
That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it?
that it might take hold of the ends of the earth, and shake the wicked out of it?
Haben sich dir des Todes Tore je aufgetan? Oder hast du gesehen die Tore der Finsternis?
Trasmúdase como lodo bajo de sello, y viene á estar como con vestidura:
It is turned as clay to the seal; and they stand as a garment.
It is changed as clay under the seal, and presented as a garment.
Hast du vernommen, wie breit die Erde sei? Sage an, weißt du solches alles?
Mas la luz de los impíos es quitada de ellos, y el brazo enaltecido es quebrantado.
And from the wicked their light is withholden, and the high arm shall be broken.
From the wicked, their light is withheld. The high arm is broken.
Welches ist der Weg, da das Licht wohnet, und welches sei der Finsternis Stätte,
¿Has entrado tú hasta los profundos de la mar, y has andado escudriñando el abismo?
Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? or hast thou walked in the search of the depth?

daß du mögest abnehmen seine Grenze und merken den Pfad zu seinem Hause?
¿Hante sido descubiertas las puertas de la muerte, y has visto las puertas de la sombra de muerte?
Have the gates of death been opened unto thee? or hast thou seen the doors of the shadow of death?
Have the gates of death been revealed to you? Or have you seen the gates of the shadow of death?
Wußtest du, daß du zu der Zeit solltest geboren werden und wieviel deiner Tage sein würden?
¿Has tú considerado hasta las anchuras de la tierra? Declara si sabes todo esto.
Hast thou perceived the breadth of the earth? declare if thou knowest it all.
Have you comprehended the earth in its width? Declare, if you know it all.
Bist du gewesen, da der Schnee herkommt, oder hast du gesehen, wo der Hagel herkommt,
¿Por dónde va el camino á la habitación de la luz, y dónde está el lugar de las tinieblas?
Where is the way where light dwelleth? and as for darkness, where is the place thereof,
“What is the way to the dwelling of light? As for darkness, where is its place,
die ich habe verhalten bis auf die Zeit der Trübsal und auf den Tag des Streits und Kriegs?
¿Si llevarás tú ambas cosas á sus términos, y entenderás las sendas de su casa?
That thou shouldest take it to the bound thereof, and that thou shouldest know the paths to the house thereof?
that you should take it to its bound, that you should discern the paths to its house?
Durch welchen Weg teilet sich das Licht, und auffähret der Ostwind auf Erden?
¿Sabíaslo tú porque hubieses ya nacido, ó porque es grande el número de tus días?
Knowest thou it, because thou wast then born? or because the number of thy days is great?
Surely you know, for you were born then, and the number of your days is great!
Wer hat dem Platzregen seinen Lauf ausgeteilet und den Weg dem Blitze und Donner,
¿Has tú entrado en los tesoros de la nieve, ó has visto los tesoros del granizo,
Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail,
Have you entered the storehouses of the snow, or have you seen the storehouses of the hail,
daß es regnet aufs Land, da niemand ist, in der Wüste, da kein Mensch ist,
Lo cual tengo yo reservado para el tiempo de angustia, para el día de la guerra y de la batalla?
Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?

Wer ist des Regens Vater? Wer hat die Tropfen des Taues gezeuget?
¿Quién repartió conducto al turbión, y camino á los relámpagos y truenos,
Who hath divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder;
Who has cut a channel for the flood water, or the path for the thunderstorm,
Aus wes Leibe ist das Eis gegangen? Und wer hat den Reif unter dem Himmel gezeuget,
Haciendo llover sobre la tierra deshabitada, sobre el desierto, donde no hay hombre,
To cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, wherein there is no man;
to cause it to rain on a land where there is no man, on the wilderness, in which there is no man,
daß das Wasser verborgen wird wie unter Steinen und die Tiefe oben gestehet?
Para hartar la tierra desierta é inculta, y para hacer brotar la tierna hierba?
To satisfy the desolate and waste ground; and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth?

Kannst du den Morgenstern hervorbringen zu seiner Zeit, oder den Wagen am Himmel über seine Kinder führen?
¿De qué vientre salió el hielo? y la escarcha del cielo, ¿quién la engendró?
Out of whose womb came the ice? and the hoary frost of heaven, who hath gendered it?
Whose womb did the ice come out of? Who has given birth to the gray frost of the sky?
Weißt du, wie der Himmel zu regieren ist? Oder kannst du ihn meistern auf Erden?
Las aguas se endurecen á manera de piedra, y congélase la haz del abismo.
The waters are hid as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen.
The waters become hard like stone, when the surface of the deep is frozen.
Kannst du deinen Donner in der Wolke hoch herführen? Oder wird dich die Menge des Wassers verdecken?
¿Podrás tú impedir las delicias de las Pléyades, ó desatarás las ligaduras del Orión?
Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?
“Can you bind the cluster of the Pleiades, or loosen the cords of Orion?
Kannst du die Blitze auslassen, daß sie hinfahren und sprechen: Hie sind wir?
¿Sacarás tú á su tiempo los signos de los cielos, ó guiarás el Arcturo con sus hijos?
Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons?
Can you lead the constellations out in their season? Or can you guide the Bear with her cubs?
Wer gibt die Weisheit ins Verborgene? Wer gibt verständige Gedanken?
¿Supiste tú las ordenanzas de los cielos? ¿dispondrás tú de su potestad en la tierra?
Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth?
Do you know the laws of the heavens? Can you establish its dominion over the earth?
Wer ist so weise, der die Wolken erzählen könnte? Wer kann die Wasserschläuche am Himmel verstopfen,
¿Alzarás tú á las nubes tu voz, para que te cubra muchedumbre de aguas?
Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover thee?
“Can you lift up your voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover you?
wenn der Staub begossen wird, daß er zuhaufe läuft und die Klöße aneinander kleben?
¿Enviarás tú los relámpagos, para que ellos vayan? ¿y diránte ellos: Henos aquí?
Canst thou send lightnings, that they may go, and say unto thee, Here we are?
Can you send out lightnings, that they may go? Do they report to you, ‘Here we are’?
Kannst du der Löwin ihren Raub zu jagen geben und die jungen Löwen sättigen,
¿Quién puso la sabiduría en el interior? ¿ó quién dió al entendimiento la inteligencia?
Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? or who hath given understanding to the heart?
Who has put wisdom in the inward parts? Or who has given understanding to the mind?
daß sie sich legen in ihre Stätte und ruhen in der Höhle, da sie lauern?
¿Quién puso por cuenta los cielos con sabiduría? y los odres de los cielos, ¿quién los hace parar,
Who can number the clouds in wisdom? or who can stay the bottles of heaven,
Who can count the clouds by wisdom? Or who can pour out the containers of the sky,
Wer bereitet dem Raben die Speise, wenn seine Jungen zu Gott rufen und fliegen irre, wenn sie nicht zu essen haben?
Cuando el polvo se ha convertido en dureza, y los terrones se han pegado unos con otros?
When the dust groweth into hardness, and the clods cleave fast together?
when the dust runs into a mass, and the clods of earth stick together?
Weißt du die Zeit, wann die Gemsen auf den Felsen gebären? Oder hast du gemerkt, wann die Hirsche schwanger gehen?

Wilt thou hunt the prey for the lion? or fill the appetite of the young lions,
“Can you hunt the prey for the lioness, or satisfy the appetite of the young lions,
Hast du erzählet ihre Monden, wann sie voll werden? Oder weißt du die Zeit, wann sie gebären?

When they couch in their dens, and abide in the covert to lie in wait?
when they crouch in their dens, and lie in wait in the thicket?
Sie beugen sich, wenn sie gebären, und reißen sich und lassen aus ihre Jungen.

Who provideth for the raven his food? when his young ones cry unto God, they wander for lack of meat.
Who provides for the raven his prey, when his young ones cry to God, and wander for lack of food?
