¿Sabes tú el tiempo en que paren las cabras monteses? ¿O miraste tú las ciervas cuando están pariendo?
¿CAZARÁS tú la presa para el león? ¿y saciarás el hambre de los leoncillos,
Knowest thou the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth? or canst thou mark when the hinds do calve?
“Do you know the time when the mountain goats give birth? Do you watch when the doe bears fawns?
¿Contaste tú los meses de su preñez, Y sabes el tiempo cuando han de parir?
Cuando están echados en las cuevas, ó se están en sus guaridas para acechar?
Canst thou number the months that they fulfil? or knowest thou the time when they bring forth?
Can you count the months that they fulfill? Or do you know the time when they give birth?
Se encorvan, hacen salir sus hijos, Pasan sus dolores.
¿Quién preparó al cuervo su alimento, cuando sus pollos claman á Dios, bullendo de un lado á otro por carecer de comida?
They bow themselves, they bring forth their young ones, they cast out their sorrows.

Sus hijos se fortalecen, crecen con el pasto; Salen, y no vuelven a ellas.
¿Sabes tú el tiempo en que paren las cabras monteses? ¿ó miraste tú las ciervas cuando están pariendo?
Their young ones are in good liking, they grow up with corn; they go forth, and return not unto them.

¿Quién echó libre al asno montés, Y quién soltó sus ataduras?
¿Contaste tú los meses de su preñez, y sabes el tiempo cuando han de parir?
Who hath sent out the wild ass free? or who hath loosed the bands of the wild ass?
“Who has set the wild donkey free? Or who has loosened the bonds of the swift donkey,
Al cual yo puse casa en la soledad, Y sus moradas en lugares estériles.
Encórvanse, hacen salir sus hijos, pasan sus dolores.
Whose house I have made the wilderness, and the barren land his dwellings.

Se burla de la multitud de la ciudad; No oye las voces del arriero.
Sus hijos están sanos, crecen con el pasto: salen y no vuelven á ellas.
He scorneth the multitude of the city, neither regardeth he the crying of the driver.

Lo oculto de los montes es su pasto, Y anda buscando toda cosa verde.

“Will the wild ox be content to serve you? Or will he stay by your feeding trough?
¿Atarás tú al búfalo con coyunda para el surco? ¿Labrará los valles detrás de ti?
Búrlase de la multitud de la ciudad: no oye las voces del arriero.
Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee?
Can you hold the wild ox in the furrow with his harness? Or will he till the valleys after you?
¿Confiarás tú en él, por ser grande su fuerza, Y le fiarás tu labor?
Lo oculto de los montes es su pasto, y anda buscando todo lo que está verde.
Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? or wilt thou leave thy labour to him?
Will you trust him, because his strength is great? Or will you leave to him your labor?
¿Fiarás de él para que recoja tu semilla, Y la junte en tu era?
¿Querrá el unicornio servirte á ti, ni quedar á tu pesebre?
Wilt thou believe him, that he will bring home thy seed, and gather it into thy barn?
Will you confide in him, that he will bring home your seed, and gather the grain of your threshing floor?
¿Diste tú hermosas alas al pavo real, O alas y plumas al avestruz?
¿Atarás tú al unicornio con su coyunda para el surco? ¿labrará los valles en pos de ti?
Gavest thou the goodly wings unto the peacocks? or wings and feathers unto the ostrich?
“The wings of the ostrich wave proudly, but are they the feathers and plumage of love?
El cual desampara en la tierra sus huevos, Y sobre el polvo los calienta,
¿Confiarás tú en él, por ser grande su fortaleza, y le fiarás tu labor?
Which leaveth her eggs in the earth, and warmeth them in dust,
For she leaves her eggs on the earth, warms them in the dust,
Y olvida que el pie los puede pisar, Y que puede quebrarlos la bestia del campo.
¿Fiarás de él que te tornará tu simiente, y que la allegará en tu era?
And forgetteth that the foot may crush them, or that the wild beast may break them.

Se endurece para con sus hijos, como si no fuesen suyos, No temiendo que su trabajo haya sido en vano;
¿Diste tú hermosas alas al pavo real, ó alas y plumas al avestruz?
She is hardened against her young ones, as though they were not hers: her labour is in vain without fear;

Porque le privó Dios de sabiduría, Y no le dio inteligencia.

Luego que se levanta en alto, Se burla del caballo y de su jinete.

¿Diste tú al caballo la fuerza? ¿Vestiste tú su cuello de crines ondulantes?
Endurécese para con sus hijos, como si no fuesen suyos, no temiendo que su trabajo haya sido en vano:
Hast thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with thunder?
“Have you given the horse might? Have you clothed his neck with a quivering mane?
¿Le intimidarás tú como a langosta? El resoplido de su nariz es formidable.
Porque le privó Dios de sabiduría, y no le dió inteligencia.
Canst thou make him afraid as a grasshopper? the glory of his nostrils is terrible.
Have you made him to leap as a locust? The glory of his snorting is awesome.
Escarba la tierra, se alegra en su fuerza, Sale al encuentro de las armas;
Luego que se levanta en alto, búrlase del caballo y de su jinete.
He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men.
He paws in the valley, and rejoices in his strength. He goes out to meet the armed men.
Hace burla del espanto, y no teme, Ni vuelve el rostro delante de la espada.
¿Diste tú al caballo la fortaleza? ¿vestiste tú su cerviz de relincho?
He mocketh at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword.

Contra él suenan la aljaba, El hierro de la lanza y de la jabalina;
¿Le intimidarás tú como á alguna langosta? El resoplido de su nariz es formidable:
The quiver rattleth against him, the glittering spear and the shield.

Y él con ímpetu y furor escarba la tierra, Sin importarle el sonido de la trompeta;
Escarba la tierra, alégrase en su fuerza, sale al encuentro de las armas:
He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage: neither believeth he that it is the sound of the trumpet.

Antes como que dice entre los clarines: ¡Ea! Y desde lejos huele la batalla, El grito de los capitanes, y el vocerío.
Hace burla del espanto, y no teme, ni vuelve el rostro delante de la espada.
He saith among the trumpets, Ha, ha; and he smelleth the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.

¿Vuela el gavilán por tu sabiduría, Y extiende hacia el sur sus alas?
Contra él suena la aljaba, el hierro de la lanza y de la pica:
Doth the hawk fly by thy wisdom, and stretch her wings toward the south?
“Is it by your wisdom that the hawk soars, and stretches her wings toward the south?
¿Se remonta el águila por tu mandamiento, Y pone en alto su nido?
Y él con ímpetu y furor escarba la tierra, sin importarle el sonido de la bocina;
Doth the eagle mount up at thy command, and make her nest on high?
Is it at your command that the eagle mounts up, and makes his nest on high?
Ella habita y mora en la peña, En la cumbre del peñasco y de la roca.
Antes como que dice entre los clarines: ¡Ea!, y desde lejos huele la batalla, el grito de los capitanes, y la vocería.
She dwelleth and abideth on the rock, upon the crag of the rock, and the strong place.
On the cliff he dwells and makes his home, on the point of the cliff and the stronghold.
Desde allí acecha la presa; Sus ojos observan de muy lejos.
¿Vuela el gavilán por tu industria, y extiende hacia el mediodía sus alas?
From thence she seeketh the prey, and her eyes behold afar off.
From there he spies out the prey. His eyes see it afar off.
Sus polluelos chupan la sangre; Y donde hubiere cadáveres, allí está ella.
¿Se remonta el águila por tu mandamiento, y pone en alto su nido? Ella habita y está en la piedra, en la cumbre del peñasco y de la roca. Desde allí acecha la comida: sus ojos observan de muy lejos. Sus pollos chupan la sangre: y donde hubiere cadáveres, allí está. A más de eso respondió Jehová á Job, y dijo: ¿Es sabiduría contender con el Omnipotente? El que disputa con Dios, responda á esto. Y respondió Job á Jehová, y dijo: He aquí que yo soy vil, ¿qué te responderé? Mi mano pongo sobre mi boca. Una vez hablé, y no responderé: aun dos veces, mas no tornaré á hablar.
