Job 3

Depois disto Jó abriu sua boca, e amaldiçoou seu dia.

DESPUÉS de esto abrió Job su boca, y maldijo su día.

After this opened Job his mouth, and cursed his day.

After this Job opened his mouth, and cursed the day of his birth.

Pois Jó respondeu, e disse:

Y exclamó Job, y dijo:

And Job spake, and said,

Job answered:

Pereça o dia em que nasci, e a noite em que se disse: Um homem foi concebido.

Perezca el día en que yo nací, y la noche que se dijo: Varón es concebido.

Let the day perish wherein I was born, and the night in which it was said, There is a man child conceived.

“Let the day perish in which I was born, the night which said, ‘There is a boy conceived.’

Torne-se aquele dia em trevas; Deus não lhe dê atenção desde acima, nem claridade brilhe sobre ele.

Sea aquel día sombrío, y Dios no cuide de él desde arriba, ni claridad sobre él resplandezca.

Let that day be darkness; let not God regard it from above, neither let the light shine upon it.

Let that day be darkness. Don’t let God from above seek for it, neither let the light shine on it.

Reivindiquem-no para si trevas e sombra de morte; nuvens habitem sobre ele; a escuridão do dia o espante.

Aféenlo tinieblas y sombra de muerte; repose sobre él nublado, que lo haga horrible como caliginoso día.

Let darkness and the shadow of death stain it; let a cloud dwell upon it; let the blackness of the day terrify it.

Let darkness and the shadow of death claim it for their own. Let a cloud dwell on it. Let all that makes the day black terrify it.

Tome a escuridão aquela noite; não seja contada entre os dias do ano, nem faça parte do número dos meses.

Ocupe la oscuridad aquella noche; no sea contada entre los días del año, ni venga en el número de los meses.

As for that night, let darkness seize upon it; let it not be joined unto the days of the year, let it not come into the number of the months.

Ah se aquela noite fosse solitária, e música de alegria não viesse a ela!

¡Oh si fuere aquella noche solitaria, que no viniera canción alguna en ella!

Lo, let that night be solitary, let no joyful voice come therein.

Behold, let that night be barren. Let no joyful voice come therein.

Amaldiçoem-na os que amaldiçoam o dia, os que se preparam para levantar seu pranto.

Maldíganla los que maldicen al día, los que se aprestan para levantar su llanto.

Let them curse it that curse the day, who are ready to raise up their mourning.

Let them curse it who curse the day, who are ready to rouse up leviathan.

Escureçam-se as estrelas de sua manhã; espere a luz, e não venha, e as pálpebras não vejam o amanhecer;

Oscurézcanse las estrellas de su alba; espere la luz, y no venga, ni vea los párpados de la mañana:

Let the stars of the twilight thereof be dark; let it look for light, but have none; neither let it see the dawning of the day:

Pois não fechou as portas do ventre onde eu estava, nem escondeu de meus olhos o sofrimento.

Por cuanto no cerró las puertas del vientre donde yo estaba, ni escondió de mis ojos la miseria.

Because it shut not up the doors of my mother’s womb, nor hid sorrow from mine eyes.

because it didn’t shut up the doors of my mother’s womb, nor did it hide trouble from my eyes.

Por que eu não morri desde a madre, ou perdi a vida ao sair do ventre?

¿Por qué no morí yo desde la matriz, o fuí traspasado en saliendo del vientre?

Why died I not from the womb? why did I not give up the ghost when I came out of the belly?

“Why didn’t I die from the womb? Why didn’t I give up the spirit when my mother bore me?

Por que joelhos me receberam? E por que seios me amamentaram?

¿Por qué me previnieron las rodillas? ¿y para qué las tetas que mamase?

Why did the knees prevent me? or why the breasts that I should suck?

Why did the knees receive me? Or why the breast, that I should nurse?

Pois agora eu jazeria e repousaria; dormiria, e então haveria repouso para mim;

Pues que ahora yaciera yo, y reposara; durmiera, y entonces tuviera reposo,

For now should I have lain still and been quiet, I should have slept: then had I been at rest,

For now I should have lain down and been quiet. I should have slept, then I would have been at rest,

Com os reis e os conselheiros da terra, que edificavam para si os desertos;

Con los reyes y con los consejeros de la tierra, que edifican para sí los desiertos;

With kings and counsellors of the earth, which built desolate places for themselves;

Ou com os príncipes que tinham ouro, que enchiam suas casas de prata.

Ou por que não fui como um aborto oculto, como as crianças que nunca viram a luz?

Ali os maus deixam de perturbar, e ali repousam os cansados de forças.

Ali estão o pequeno e o grande; e o servo livre está de seu senhor.

Por que se dá luz ao sofredor, e vida aos amargos de alma,

Wherefore is light given to him that is in misery, and life unto the bitter in soul;

Que saltam de alegram e ficam contentes quando acham a sepultura?

E também ao homem cujo caminho é oculto, e a quem Deus o encobriu?

Pois antes do meu pão vem meu suspiro; e meus gemidos correm como águas.

For my sighing cometh before I eat, and my roarings are poured out like the waters.

For my sighing comes before I eat. My groanings are poured out like water.

Pois aquilo eu temia tanto veio a mim, e aquilo que tinha medo me aconteceu.

Porque el temor que me espantaba me ha venido, y hame acontecido lo que temía.

For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me.

For the thing which I fear comes on me, that which I am afraid of comes to me.

Não tenho tido descanso, nem tranquilidade, nem repouso; mas perturbação veio sobre mim.

No he tenido paz, no me aseguré, ni me estuve reposado; vínome no obstante turbación.

I was not in safety, neither had I rest, neither was I quiet; yet trouble came.

I am not at ease, neither am I quiet, neither do I have rest; but trouble comes.”
