Danach tat Hiob seinen Mund auf und verfluchte seinen Tag.

DESPUÉS de esto abrió Job su boca, y maldijo su día.

After this opened Job his mouth, and cursed his day.

Und Hiob sprach:

Der Tag müsse verloren sein, darinnen ich geboren bin, und die Nacht, da man sprach: Es ist ein Mannlein empfangen.

Perezca el día en que yo nací, y la noche que se dijo: Varón es concebido.

Let the day perish wherein I was born, and the night in which it was said, There is a man child conceived.

Derselbe Tag müsse finster sein, und Gott von oben herab musse nicht nach ihm fragen; kein Glanz müsse über ihn scheinen.

Sea aquel día sombrío, y Dios no cuide de él desde arriba, ni claridad sobre él resplandezca.

Let that day be darkness; let not God regard it from above, neither let the light shine upon it.

Finsternis und Dunkel müssen ihn überwaltigen, und dicke Wolken müssen über ihm bleiben, und der Dampf am Tage mache ihn graßlich.

Aféenlo tinieblas y sombra de muerte; repose sobre él nublado, que lo haga horrible como caliginoso día.

Let darkness and the shadow of death stain it; let a cloud dwell upon it; let the blackness of the day terrify it.

Die Nacht müsse ein Dunkel einnehmen, und müsse sich nicht unter den Tagen des Jahres freuen, noch in die Zahl der Monden kommen.

Ocupe la oscuridad aquella noche; no sea contada entre los días del año, ni venga en el número de los meses.

As for that night, let darkness seize upon it; let it not be joined unto the days of the year, let it not come into the number of the months.

Siehe, die Nacht müsse einsam sein und kein Jauchzen drinnen sein.

¡Oh si fuere aquella noche solitaria, que no viniera canción alguna en ella!

Es verfluchen sie die Verflucher des Tages, und die da bereit sind, zu erwecken den Leviathan.

Maldíganla los que maldicen al día, los que se aprestan para levantar su llanto.

Let them curse it that curse the day, who are ready to raise up their mourning.

Ihre Sterne müssen finster sein in ihrer Dammerung; sie hoffe aufs Licht und komme nicht und müsse nicht sehen die Augenbrauen der Morgenrote,

Oscurézcanse las estrellas de su alba; espere la luz, y no venga, ni vea los párpados de la mañana:

Let the stars of the twilight thereof be dark; let it look for light, but have none; neither let it see the dawning of the day:

daß sie nicht verschlossen hat die Tür meines Leibes und nicht verborgen das Unglück vor meinen Augen.

Por cuanto no cerró las puertas del vientre donde yo estaba, ni escondió de mis ojos la miseria.

Because it shut not up the doors of my mother’s womb, nor hid sorrow from mine eyes.

Warum bin ich nicht gestorben von Mutterleib an? Warum bin ich nicht umkommen, da ich aus dem Leibe kam?

¿Por qué no morí yo desde la matriz, o fuí traspasado en saliendo del vientre?

Why died I not from the womb? why did I not give up the ghost when I came out of the belly?

“Why didn’t I die from the womb? Why didn’t I give up the spirit when my mother bore me?

Warum hat man mich auf den Schoß gesetzet? Warum bin ich mit Brüsten gesauget?

¿Por qué me previnieron las rodillas? ¿y para qué las tetas que mamase?

Why did the knees prevent me? or why the breasts that I should suck?

Why did the knees receive me? Or why the breast, that I should nurse?

So lage ich doch nun und ware stille, schliefe und hatte Ruhe

Pues que ahora yaciera yo, y reposara; durmiera, y entonces tuviera reposo,

For now should I have lain still and been quiet, I should have slept: then had I been at rest,

For now I should have lain down and been quiet. I should have slept, then I would have been at rest,

mit den Konigen und Ratsherren auf Erden, die das Wüste bauen;

Con los reyes y con los consejeros de la tierra, que edifican para sí los desiertos;

With kings and counsellors of the earth, which built desolate places for themselves;

Oder mit den Fürsten, die Gold haben und ihre Hauser voll Silbers sind;

O con los príncipes que poseían el oro, que henchían sus casas de plata.

oderwieeine unzeitige Geburt verborgen und nichts ware, wie die jungen Kinder, die das Licht nie gesehen haben.

O ¿por qué no fuí escondido como aborto, como los pequeñitos que nunca vieron luz?

Daselbst müssen doch aufhoren die Gottlosen mit Toben; daselbst ruhen doch, die viel Mühe gehabt haben.

Da sind beide klein und groß, Knecht und der von seinem Herm frei gelassen ist.

Warum ist das Licht gegeben dem Muhseligen und das Leben den betrubten Herzen,

die sich fast freuen und sind frohlich, daß sie das Grab bekommen,)

Denn wenn ich essen soil, muß ich seufzen, und mein Heulen fahret heraus wie Wasser.

Pues antes que mi pan viene mi suspiro; y mis gemidos corren como aguas.

For my sighing cometh before I eat, and my roarings are poured out like the waters.

Denn das ich gefurchtet habe, ist uber mich kommen, und das ich sorgte, hat mich getroffen.

Porque el temor que me espantaba me ha venido, y hame acontecido lo que temía.

For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me.

For the thing which I fear comes on me, that which I am afraid of comes to me.

War ich nicht gluckselig? War ich nicht fein stille? Hatte ich nicht gute Ruhe? Und kommt solche Unruhe!

No he tenido paz, no me aseguré, ni me estuve reposado; vínome no obstante turbación.

I was not in safety, neither had I rest, neither was I quiet; yet trouble came.

I am not at ease, neither am I quiet, neither do I have rest; but trouble comes.”
