Job 3

Alors Job ouvrit la bouche et maudit le jour de sa naissance.

DESPUÉS de esto abrió Job su boca, y maldijo su día.

After this opened Job his mouth, and cursed his day.

After this Job opened his mouth, and cursed the day of his birth.

Job prit la parole et dit :

Y exclamó Job, y dijo:

And Job spake, and said,

Job answered:

Périsse le jour où je suis né, et la nuit qui a dit : « Un homme est conçu ! »

Perezca el día en que yo nací, y la noche que se dijo: Varón es concebido.

Let the day perish wherein I was born, and the night in which it was said, There is a man child conceived.

“Let the day perish in which I was born, the night which said, ‘There is a boy conceived.’

Ce jour, qu'il se change en ténèbres, que Dieu d'en haut n'en ait pas souci, que la lumière ne brille pas sur lui !

Sea aquel día sombrío, y Dios no cuide de él desde arriba, ni claridad sobre él resplandezca.

Let that day be darkness; let not God regard it from above, neither let the light shine upon it.

Que les ténèbres et l'ombre de la mort le revendiquent, qu'un nuage épais le couvre, que l'éclipse de sa lumière jette l'épouvante !

Aféenlo tinieblas y sombra de muerte; repose sobre él nublado, que lo haga horrible como caliginoso día.

Let darkness and the shadow of death stain it; let a cloud dwell upon it; let the blackness of the day terrify it.

Cette nuit, que les ténèbres en fassent leur proie, qu'elle ne compte pas dans les jours de l'année, qu'elle n'entre pas dans la supputation des mois !

Ocupe la oscuridad aquella noche; no sea contada entre los días del año, ni venga en el número de los meses.

As for that night, let darkness seize upon it; let it not be joined unto the days of the year, let it not come into the number of the months.

Que cette nuit soit un désert stérile, qu'on n'y entende pas de cri d'allégresse !

¡Oh si fuere aquella noche solitaria, que no viniera canción alguna en ella!

Lo, let that night be solitary, let no joyful voice come therein.

Que ceux-là la maudissent, qui maudissent les jours, qui savent évoquer Léviathan !

Maldíganla los que maldicen al día, los que se aprestan para levantar su llanto.

Let them curse it that curse the day, who are ready to raise up their mourning.

Que les étoiles de son crépuscule s'obscurcissent, qu'elle attende la lumière, sans qu'elle vienne, et qu'elle ne voie point les paupières de l'aurore,

Oscurézcanse las estrellas de su alba; espere la luz, y no venga, ni vea los párpados de la mañana:

Let the stars of the twilight thereof be dark; let it look for light, but have none; neither let it see the dawning of the day:

parce qu'elle ne m'a pas fermé les portes du sein, et n'a pas dérobé la souffrance à mes regards !

Por cuanto no cerró las puertas del vientre donde yo estaba, ni escondió de mis ojos la miseria.

Because it shut not up the doors of my mother’s womb, nor hid sorrow from mine eyes.

Que ne suis-je mort dès le ventre de ma mère, au sortir de ses entrailles que n'ai-je expiré !

¿Por qué no morí yo desde la matriz, o fuí traspasado en saliendo del vientre?

Why died I not from the womb? why did I not give up the ghost when I came out of the belly?

“Why didn’t I die from the womb? Why didn’t I give up the spirit when my mother bore me?

Pourquoi ai-je trouvé deux genoux pour me recevoir, et pourquoi deux mamelles à sucer ?

¿Por qué me previnieron las rodillas? ¿y para qué las tetas que mamase?

Why did the knees prevent me? or why the breasts that I should suck?

Why did the knees receive me? Or why the breast, that I should nurse?

Maintenant je serais couché et en paix, je dormirais et je me reposerais

Pues que ahora yaciera yo, y reposara; durmiera, y entonces tuviera reposo,

For now should I have lain still and been quiet, I should have slept: then had I been at rest,

For now I should have lain down and been quiet. I should have slept, then I would have been at rest,

avec les rois et les grands de la terre, qui se sont bâti des mausolées ;

Con los reyes y con los consejeros de la tierra, que edifican para sí los desiertos;

With kings and counsellors of the earth, which built desolate places for themselves;

avec les princes qui avaient de l'or, et remplissaient d'argent leur demeures.

O con los príncipes que poseían el oro, que henchían sus casas de plata.

Ou bien, comme l'avorton ignoré, je n'existerais pas, comme ces enfants qui n'ont pas vu la lumière.

O ¿por qué no fuí escondido como aborto, como los pequeñitos que nunca vieron luz?

Là les méchants n'exercent plus leurs violences, là se repose l'homme épuisé de forces ;

les captifs y sont tous en paix, ils n'entendent plus la voix de l'exacteur.

Là se trouvent le petit et le grand, l'esclave affranchi de son maître.

Mes soupirs sont comme mon pain et mes gémissements se répandent comme l'eau.

Pues antes que mi pan viene mi suspiro; y mis gemidos corren como aguas.

For my sighing cometh before I eat, and my roarings are poured out like the waters.

Ce que je crains, c'est ce qui m'arrive ; ce que je redoute fond sur moi.

Porque el temor que me espantaba me ha venido, y hame acontecido lo que temía.

For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me.

For the thing which I fear comes on me, that which I am afraid of comes to me.

Plus de tranquillité, plus de paix, plus de repos, et le trouble m'a saisi.

No he tenido paz, no me aseguré, ni me estuve reposado; vínome no obstante turbación.

I was not in safety, neither had I rest, neither was I quiet; yet trouble came.

I am not at ease, neither am I quiet, neither do I have rest; but trouble comes.”
