Job 3

Après cela, Job ouvrit la bouche et maudit le jour de sa naissance.

DESPUÉS de esto abrió Job su boca, y maldijo su día.

After this opened Job his mouth, and cursed his day.

Et, prenant la parole, Job dit :

Y exclamó Job, y dijo:

Job answered:

Périsse le jour où je suis né, et la nuit qui a dit : Un homme est conçu !

Perezca el día en que yo nací, y la noche que se dijo: Varón es concebido.

Let the day perish wherein I was born, and the night in which it was said, There is a man child conceived.

Que ce jour soit ténèbres, que Dieu ne s’en enquière pas d’en haut, qu’aucune lumière ne brille sur lui !

Sea aquel día sombrío, y Dios no cuide de él desde arriba, ni claridad sobre él resplandezca.

Let that day be darkness; let not God regard it from above, neither let the light shine upon it.

Que les ténèbres et l’ombre de la mort le reprennent, qu’une sombre nuée demeure sur lui, qu’une éclipse le remplisse d’horreur !

Aféenlo tinieblas y sombra de muerte; repose sobre él nublado, que lo haga horrible como caliginoso día.

Let darkness and the shadow of death stain it; let a cloud dwell upon it; let the blackness of the day terrify it.

Que l’obscurité s’empare de cette nuit, qu’elle ne se réjouisse pas au milieu des jours de l’année, qu’elle n’entre pas dans le compte des mois !

Ocupe la oscuridad aquella noche; no sea contada entre los días del año, ni venga en el número de los meses.

As for that night, let darkness seize upon it; let it not be joined unto the days of the year, let it not come into the number of the months.

Voici, que cette nuit soit stérile, et qu’aucun cri de joie n’y survienne !

¡Oh si fuere aquella noche solitaria, que no viniera canción alguna en ella!

Lo, let that night be solitary, let no joyful voice come therein.

Qu’ils la maudissent ceux qui maudissent les jours, ceux qui sont habiles à faire lever Léviathan !

Maldíganla los que maldicen al día, los que se aprestan para levantar su llanto.

Let them curse it that curse the day, who are ready to raise up their mourning.

Que les étoiles de son crépuscule soient obscurcies, qu’elle attende la lumière et qu’il n’y en ait point, et qu’elle ne voie pas les paupières de l’aurore !

Oscurézcanse las estrellas de su alba; espere la luz, y no venga, ni vea los párpados de la mañana:

Let the stars of the twilight thereof be dark; let it look for light, but have none; neither let it see the dawning of the day:

Parce qu’elle n’a pas fermé le sein qui me porta, et n’a point caché la douleur à mes yeux !

Por cuanto no cerró las puertas del vientre donde yo estaba, ni escondió de mis ojos la miseria.

Because it shut not up the doors of my mother’s womb, nor hid sorrow from mine eyes.

Que ne suis-je mort dès le sein de ma mère ? Au sortir de ses flancs, que n’ai-je expiré ?

¿Por qué no morí yo desde la matriz, o fuí traspasado en saliendo del vientre?

Why died I not from the womb? why did I not give up the ghost when I came out of the belly?

“Why didn’t I die from the womb? Why didn’t I give up the spirit when my mother bore me?

Pourquoi des genoux se sont-ils présentés à moi, et pourquoi des mamelles pour être sucées ?

¿Por qué me previnieron las rodillas? ¿y para qué las tetas que mamase?

Why did the knees prevent me? or why the breasts that I should suck?

Why did the knees receive me? Or why the breast, that I should nurse?

Car, maintenant, je serais couché et tranquille, je dormirais, je serais en repos,

Pues que ahora yaciera yo, y reposara; durmiera, y entonces tuviera reposo,

For now should I have lain still and been quiet, I should have slept: then had I been at rest,

For now I should have lain down and been quiet. I should have slept, then I would have been at rest,

Avec les rois et les arbitres de la terre, qui se bâtissent des mausolées,

Con los reyes y con los consejeros de la tierra, que edifican para sí los desiertos;

With kings and counsellors of the earth, which built desolate places for themselves;

Avec les princes qui ont de l’or, qui remplissent d’argent leurs maisons.

O con los príncipes que poseían el oro, que henchían sus casas de plata.

O ¿por qué no fuí escondido como aborto, como los pequeñitos que nunca vieron luz?

Là, les méchants ne tourmentent plus personne, et là se reposent les hommes fatigués ;

Car je soupire au lieu de manger, et mes cris se répandent comme l’eau.

Pues antes que mi pan viene mi suspiro; y mis gemidos corren como aguas.

For my sighing cometh before I eat, and my roarings are poured out like the waters.

Ce que je crains m’arrive, et ce que j’appréhende vient sur moi.

Porque el temor que me espantaba me ha venido, y hame acontecido lo que temía.

For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me.

For the thing which I fear comes on me, that which I am afraid of comes to me.

Je n’ai ni paix, ni tranquillité, ni repos ! Le tourment est venu !

No he tenido paz, no me aseguré, ni me estuve reposado; vínome no obstante turbación.

I was not in safety, neither had I rest, neither was I quiet; yet trouble came.

I am not at ease, neither am I quiet, neither do I have rest; but trouble comes.”
